Avoid this company. Incredibly disappointed in the customer service and parts they installed for my garage. We had to get a new circuit board and keypad installed only to have it completely break down after two months of use. When I called asking what options are available to me, the employee scoffed at me that I paid the price I did with another vendor and then told me that they only guarantee 30 day warranty which wasn't in the documentation they provided. Another thing to note was around the customer service. The technician was terse and rude to my wife throughout the whole circuit board install. On the walls, the garage, and well out into the driveway. Now we have oil stains everywhere. When I called I was transferred to the office manager Jim. Dave from overhead doors replaced the springs of our original extremely heavy wooden garage door (from 1957). Overhead doors last replaced the springs on June 2nd, 1989. Dave did a great job replacing the springs with a pair of combination heavy duty springs. We are so glad that skilled worker like Dave is still available in Madison. read more

Our garage door was damaged and we called OHD-Madison for help. Over the years we have used them before and were very satisfied. A service person responded and advised the door would need to be replaced. He also did a temporary repair and advised a sales person would contact me ref an estimate. Sales person subsequently responded, took measurements/photos and emailed an estimate of $4,000. We had two additional estimates and between us and our insurance company went with a big that was $1,300 lower. The temporary repair failed and we call OHD-Madison requesting another service call so we could still use the damaged door until it was replaced. A short time later we received a call from a person (I think the sales person) who was very angry because we didn't go with their bid and said they would not be responding to do another temporary fix. I tried to explain why we didn't go with OHD and he hung up on me. We have used this company a couple times in the past and have always been satisfied. Called when they opened on Thursday morning to have them fix a broken spring and bent track. They committed to call between noon and four before they arrived to fix the door. We called the at 4:15. The person at the desk transferred the call to the service "guy" and we received his voicemail. We called again right before 4:30 when they close, same thing. We have been (past tense) a 35 year customer of overhead door. We had a service tech come to our residence. He did a great job, but found that the remote opener did not work after he left. A simple fix you would think. When the tech returned he resolved the issue without any concerns. A true professional. The problem was that when I called the office and got a return call from Jim, he destroyed our relationship with OHD. Jim was rude and combative. Will call another firm in the future. We have many properties in Madison that have used OHD but not anymore. Assume he owns the company because nobody can afford this type of an employee. This place has a serious issue with customer service. I have a rental property that needed garage door service. I called OHD, and the person I talked to said they could have a tech out later that afternoon. I explained that I have renters that need 24 hours notice for entering the property, so was looking for available times a couple days out so I could approve the time with my renters. He gave me available times. I then coordinated with my renters and picked a day 3 days out. I called back to OHD, whomever answered the phone said my preferred time was open and that we were booked. It should have been that easy, but this was the start of it going off the rails. Later that afternoon, I got a call from an unknown number. I answered, and it was an OHD tech saying that he was 5 minutes away. I explained to the tech that I had not booked a time for today, I had actually booked a time in a couple days, and I asked him to please not knock on the door as my renters needed 24 hours notice. He understood. Fast forward 3 days to the time that I booked. I get a call from my renters that said OHD never showed up. I called OHD to check on the appointment. I was transferred to Jim. I mentioned that I had an appointment that day and no one showed up. Jim was very rude and said well there's nothing on the schedule. I explained that I called back and booked a time. He said "Well you didn't tell ME." I'm sorry Jim, it is not the customer's responsibility to manage OHD's phone tree and proper protocol to book appointments. When I called and booked with whomever answered, and they approved the time, as far as the customer is concerned....my job is done. My girlfriend was next to me when I made this call and it was on speakerphone so she heard all of it. Since my door still needed to be fixed, I asked Jim for a new set of times, and I would call him back directly with a new time. He gave me times, I coordinated with my renters, and then called Jim back directly. I gave him the new time, and he told me it was booked. Very grumpily. My girlfriend was next to me while these calls were on speakerphone, so she heard it as well. Tomorrow was supposed to be the date for service so I thought I'd just call and double check. I called, and got the front desk person. They said we don't have anything in the schedule for you. I was transferred to Jim again. As soon as I gave him my address, he started yelling at me saying that I was going to check with my renters and get back to him and never did. I absolutely did get back to him. I also have all the calls in my call log on my cell phone. I feel bad for any of the other quality workers and techs that work for OHD that suffer because of Jim's ineptitude. I've called on Overhead Door at this location three times in the past 12 years or so and have very little to complain about. First time was about 12-13 years ago - we needed a new door and had them come install a door and opener. I don't recall any complaints with the appointment, job or service. The door has been excellent. Second time, I popped in to the location to buy an extra garage door opener for my senior mother who put hers thru the wash! Replacement opener was a bit expensive but they were very helpful in getting me the right one. Only reason I don't have this review as 5 stars is when I realized my mom's remote was fine... I wasn't able to return the opener I bought. (its still sitting around my house if anyone wants to buy one!) I was a bit bummed because I assumed if it wasn't needed that I could return it. Maybe I'll need it one day... Third time was a week or so ago - one of the springs on our garage door broke. We called first thing in the morning and stressed the urgency of getting repaired that morning because the wife and I had multiple appointments that day. A super nice guy (can't remember his name now) came early in the morning and did a great job repairing it. Very excellent work, service and speed. I've had no issues up to date and wouldn't hesitate to call them again in the future. read more

The service manager said it wasn't the problem and than actually said he would not sell me the $35 part. It went pretty heavy into a exchange where I told him I just could not believe his actions and just how rude he was. He then told me I was the rudest he ever dealt with. Who does that? All I wanted was a $35 part. When asked to have the owners email address, I was told no, and he would never respond to me. I hate this company. Upon returning from a business trip I find two installers from Overhead Door trespassing on my property (as I did not give them permission to perform the installation) and installing the wrong garage doors. After contacting the company with representatives that were extremely rude, the workers took off running their truck over my lawn tearing it up, leaving one of two garage doors nailed closed so I could not access my garage, and in the process stealing two of my cordless tools. Upon returning a month later to try and install the correct garage doors one of the workers trips and yanks the power and control wires out of my garage heater. While he admits the damage he has done, the company refuses to send someone out to repair the heater or take responsibility. The company tries to blame me and tries to intimidate me by sending a Notice of Intention to File Claim for Lien with the first invoice! Luckily I have everything documented with photo's, witnesses, and recorded calls. Others may not take the measures I did. I rarely write a review of anything. But I don't want anyone else to experience a business like this that refuses to apologize, refuses to take responsibility, and instead tries to blame the customer. Stay away from this company unless you want terrible service and rude behavior from everyone from the sales person Dennis, to the office manager Jim, to the owner of the business Ron. read more

Can't find anything to not be happy about. I had both springs break on my garage door and called around for estimates. Overhead door was the second lowest out of five. I called late on a Wednesday and they were out Thursday morning. Brice showed up and was polite and cautious. He replaced both springs and installed a remote in a little under 45 minutes. No complaints and I would recommend them to a neighbor or friend. read more

I have used this company in the past.....spent hundreds of dollars and did not have a problem. Today, I had an issue with a garage remote....went in and they sold me the wrong remote. Went back two hours max to return and brutal treatment. I can understand the "no return" if for a second I did not have some arrogant POS talking down to me. From previous reviews...my guess I ran into "Jim". No people skills....dismissive.....no attempt to really explain to me the policy....he needs some significant training in how to interact with customers and the concept "customer service." He obviously is one very unhappy man....needs training and probably a diet would not hurt him either. Regardless, all my future business needs will be handled by another company. I don't care about price when treated so rudely. Fix this you guys quickly. Your receptionist should also participate in the same training. I asked them to come out and look at my garage to add new mechanicals. On the phone vague sounded as if they didn't even want to talk to me but they where willing to come out and look. Dennis looked at my situation and said I should probably get new door and mechanicals but would give me a quote for both. I had them over on a Tuesday, I called on Thursday to get the quote still the dry response and he said he would get it done. Its Friday and no response. I called Any Time Garage Door Repair and they came over right away looked at my situation said he could get it done in 3 hours. The price quote was fair. UPDATE: Imagine that! Not 3 hours after sending them an email notifying them our disappointment, I received a phone call from D. Unfortunately, like any divorce, it was much too little and far too late. There was no apology included either. It was more of a "It's not my fault. It's yours." speech from him. Oh denial . . . --_-- _____________ ORIGINAL REVIEW: If you love terribly delayed service, rude or non-existant customer service, having to hand hold the employees of business to actually place your order, or you don't really care when your new garage doors get installed . . . by all means (try to) hire Overhead Door of Madison. It's been over a month and a half since I hired the work of ODM and I'm still not sure if my order was ever place. After trying to contact their Residential Sales Manager, D M, three times over the course of 2 weeks, and having left detailed messages each time, and never having received a response, I was finally able to get ahold of him on my fourth call. During the call I'm pretty sure he didn't even pull our account as he misquoted the name of our job and many of the details of our order, but he reassured me he'd finally send that proposal I'd been requesting for a month and a half, and that our doors would be in tomorrow or the next day. Also, whenever I tried to talk to anyone else at ODM to get some answers I was always stopped short and told NOBODY could help me except D. (I'll let you all guess what D stands for.) A week later, no proposal, no doors, no phone call. As many other reviewers have mentioned on other sites. I'm not sure how they're still in business. I called Monday at about 9 am to have both my torsion springs replaced. The call taker said they could have someone here this afternoon. John, the installer, called at 2:40 pm to say he would be here at 3, and he was. John knew what he was doing and did a great job. He insured the door was properly balanced. After he finished installing the springs he checked the rest of the door components and oiled and adjusted as needed. John and Overhead Door did a great job. I have already recommended them to several friends. read more

Called them for a new garage door & special ordered one. 2 months later we called to see if it came in, yup but were too busy to install. We will call to set appointment. 1 month later we called again & asked if they wanted us to buy a door somewhere else? Then they set appointment & installed it. Month later I purchased a new car but lost both remotes so I asked to buy a new replacement. Here"s a new but won't do any good without a electronic bridge for $50. I attempted to program with no success but also erased the memory code for all our cars. They sent a nice friendly young man out & he got it to work maybe one out of 6 times. He also said door wasn't installed correctly in the 1st place & made adjustments not related to my last problem. No big deal. I called office back complaining about inconsistent operation & was told but it did work? Right? Yes but once in 6 tries. There is nothing we can do because you have interference with LEDS or something & was very nasty & condescending to my wife. We paid about a $100 for that trip & was told he would charge a service call if they came again. We said all we want is for it to work & made appointment. They canceled before anyone came out again. I took bridge back, got a refund for part only & was insulted again by the man with the worst people skills in the city. Sadly I lost my cool now also. just wanted it to work. Are you still with me? So I called the competition & they sold me a remote, went home & programed everything in a matter of 10 minutes. Now ask me why they shouldn't get even a one star?
