The kayak to and from the hiking trail isn't too strenuous. Sierra detailed out some checkpoints for us to stop at in the river to keep account of everyone but we were able to paddle at our own pace. The hike was very scenic, definitely want to wear a decent shoes or hiking sandals as there are slippery rocks you may have to cross along the way. The water fall is beautiful with a good sized pond at the bottom. Definitely would suggest this to anyone going to Kauai looking for a modest adventure.

We did the group lesson with another couple who was also honeymooning. Our instructor Ikaika was very friendly and a good teacher. We got all the gear you need: booties for the sharp rocks, rashguards and some good surfboards for beginners. Some of the most important lessons were taught out of the water with Ikaika giving good feedback. Once in the water, Ikaika helped us judge the surf and guide us into waves. We just completed our 6th trip with them, and every experience has been unforgettable. Their small-group dives feel personal, safe, relaxed, and unhurried. It feels more like diving with knowledgeable friends than being packed onto a crowded boat. Jessie and Nick are down to earth, professional, kind, and genuinely great people. We have seen turtles, beautiful coral, angelfish, butterflyfish, triggerfish, puffers, porcupinefish, huge moray eels, giant lobsters, reef sharks, manta and eagle rays, and 200-foot walls off Niʻihau. One of our favorite moments was being greeted by a playful Hawaiian monk seal that swam among us and scratched its back on the reef like a cat. They are also excellent with nervous divers. My wife gets anxiety before dives, and Jessie and Nick always help her feel calm, take time with descents and equalizing, and make sure the experience feels safe and enjoyable. My wife and I just got married and were eagerly awaiting our honeymoon trip to Kauai. At the center…read moreof our trip was a dive visit to Niihau, which we booked with Explore Kauai Scuba months in advance. When we booked, we noticed that Explore Kauai Scuba has a policy that their charter for Niihau has a four diver minimum. We were concerned about this but figured given how far we booked in advance we would check in as we got closer in date and make alternate arrangements for diving if the minimum was not hit. As this trip was very important to us, we spoke to Jessie about this, who reassured us that given the timing of our trip it would fill out closer to the day, and indeed it did. Then, right before the trip, several people canceled, bringing the number of divers to below 4 (3). We do not know when this happened, but we were not informed until less than 24 hours before the dive trip (we assume given the 72 hr cancellation policy the dive shop knew for several days before telling us). We were told that the only way for the boat to go out was if we split the cost of the fourth seat with the other passenger (which was $632 with all fees). I asked to do that and was then told that actually the third passenger was a local and didn't want to split the cost. So then I asked given the timing of this if we could receive a discount on the additional seat (I asked for 20% off, nothing crazy) and Nick refused to offer any discount on the trip. He did offer a discount on a different trip on a day we couldn't attend, asking why we couldn't move our schedule around (It would have been easier, Nick, if you had told us we needed to move our schedule around more than 24 hours before the dive trip. We also would have had more flexibility to book with another dive shop, like Fathom Five, had we had more time). All in all Nick was extremely unapologetic, saying things like "This is our policy" (I understand that, but maybe it should be your policy to inform customers in a timely manner when cancellations occur) "we are a small business" (we weren't trying to screw you Nick, we just wanted you to work with us even a little on making this trip happen for us) and, after me asking when the other guests had canceled (and why hadn't we been informed) "I don't know, it doesn't matter". From reading the other reviews it seems like Nick and Jessie are great guides and I am sure if you get a chance to go out with them you'll have a good time, but you may not get that chance. I would suggest you only book with them if you don't care about having your trip canceled last minute.

It was the perfect size. Most other tours are on larger boats with a ton of people or smaller rafts that's beat you up. Captain Kamua was knowledgeable and we felt safe the entire time. We dove at Koloa Landing, a place I have dove before and taken some beautiful people snorkeling as well. So it made me think, if Creation could still be this good after we humans messed it up. Just think what a restored creation will be. THE STAR INSTRUCTOR Cassie our dive guide is one to credit here. Cassie and Koloa Landing on a 'so-so' day repaired my belief in shore dives. I've been diving 30 yrs. and am a rescue diver. We had the most wonderful 26yr old local dive instructor. Cassie is attentive while not over protective, alert with a well-trained eye. Cassie has respect for the environment of Hawaii, land and see with an intimate knowledge of the location and the underwater creation. Cassie has grown up doing this and is still in love with it. Her joy shows in her energy and delight to share what she loves and knows. Its like someone having the gift of hospitality related to the ocean and the island. She would be great with children too; we want to bring our 3yr old grandson for an experience with her. She will see he feels safe and falls in love with the ocean too. A quick refresher with Cassie is not a dry or droning thing but a fun and assuring few minutes that will address those little anxieties that are under the surface for those whose last vacation was their last dive. THE DIVE I was not stoked to go to btw, Koloa Landing (our other site was diverted because of the Hurricane influence), but Cassie found more life here than ever in one dive. Seriously if you are a beginner you may not know the difference but after a dive with Cassie here, you may always find yourself disappointed anywhere else with anyone else! You just might think this is what everywhere is like, its not. (I have dove on all the Hawaiian Islands, Indonesia, Philippines, Red Sea, Sea of Cortez, Cozumel, Monterey, Costa Rica, The Mediterranean etc. everywhere has its own value, and this place had some great things.) We saw 5 kinds, not 5 eels, 5 kinds of Eels (dragon, pepper, moray, tiger, snowflake), 5 Octopi (3 swimming), more turtles than we could count (Kauai has the biggest turtles on the planet - some 5' shell length), a mature Frog fish - big - I have seen juveniles before but this dude was good size. Never in Hawaii have I had a dive guide find 1, let alone 2 big live Pu ( 'poo' is the Hawaiian Name for Conch shell), tiger cowry etc. You get 'my drift' (that's dive joke btw). THE SHOUT OUT TO THE DIVE COMPANY Shout out to Watersports Adventures and Cassie Winston she is superlative. We have dove in Kauai a dozen times with another company from a boat, which is great.
