    Great local draft!

Had a solid dinner at this comfortable one-time home located seemingly out in the middle of nowhere (but it's close to Boone). We dined out on the porch for dinner, and it was a beautiful evening. I had the chicken fried chicken and it was excellent! My wife had the Plants & Roots, which on this night featured a mushroom pasta Bolognese. This dish would've been great, but the pasta was quite a bit under cooked (about 90 -120 sec from even reaching al dente). We got a piece of the hummingbird cake to go, and it was moist and delicious! Service was very good also. Would highly recommend this place!

My friend and I came here on a mountain retreat trip and we both really enjoyed the food. I must is the crispy okra, mint lemonade, and the peach cobbler. The service was great and we sat outside which was nice to be able to view the beautiful flowers around the porch.

Had the tomatoe casserole. It was very good. It was quite slow so be prepared to spend some time there.

Food is good. I had the tomatoe casserole. The burger with beets was a lil too adventurous and our table didn't like it very much. Wait times can be long but it's worth it. It's delicious!

First time here! Great lunch on a Saturday and the wait wasn't bad at all, like 20 minutes. Once we were seated, we felt so cozy, it's a nice setting for lunch. Our server greeted us with the biggest smile, we loved her, so sweet! For food, we ordered the pimento cheese as an appetizer. It's bomb. Not mayonnaise-y at all and the bread it's served with, yum! I ordered the shrimp & grits, so good. My mom ordered the burger and house made chips, she enjoyed it. We ordered chess pie for dessert which wasn't my fav, my mom like it... but to me it tasted like a burnt chocolate chip cookie flavor that was in jelly form, the ice cream it came with was good! I'd recommend this place if you're in the area!

We were visiting NC for the weekend and stumbled onto this place because it was on the way to our VRBO. We were in Boone earlier in the day for a football game and we did not have luck finding a restaurant there that was not sold out after the game. We stopped in at Over Yonder, they were busy but accommodated us within a few minutes. We were in the room closest to the door which does not have the best ambience, but I was able to see the rest of the restaurant when I went to the restroom. Such a cute restaurant. Onto the food, it was delicious! We had their pork egg rolls for an appetiser and our 3 meals were steak, trout and meatloaf. All were excellent! We also tried 3 desserts. Butterscotch pudding, chess pie and peach cobbler. We didn't love the pudding but the 2 other desserts were a hit!

Not a lot of fully vegan items currently listed on the menu. However, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating! Many items are easily made vegan! The atmosphere is unique and wonderful!

Dry burger - Apple Sauce is great - if you like burgers dod not get the Shipley Burger.

Nice place - food decent - chips good, apple sauce good, dipped chicken good. Service was nice however the server did not notice the in eaten burger and just asked if we wanted desert and the check. If you are burger person do not get the Shipley Burger - it is not juicy and lacking something. Luckily at the end the server took the burger off the bill. I would recommend the dipped chicken rice bowl.

I will have to describe this restaurant as PRETTY. Why? Well it has pretty scenery, pretty house, pretty plating of food, and pretty nice staff. All joke aside, we been here couple of times, the food is always excellent, also they always have good seasonal items on their special menu. If you have a dog you can bring them here too, you will have to sit outside. The waitress even brought water to take care of our fur family. I will say this restaurant is PRETTY GOOD.

Stout. Didn't remember the name, and they didn't have an updated menu. Very good.

We're up in the mountains for a family trip this week. We came out for a late lunch. The location is really close to the Seven Devils resort area, and accessible to some of the ski resorts around as well. It's quite picturesque, with a lovely view out to, and also with the mountains around. Walking in, it's quite interesting. It's cozy and warm, there are multiple dining rooms with small tables that keep a a similar aesthetic across the place. Decor is winter lodge-ish. The staff are very welcoming, and kept a watchful eye as needs came about. I went with the OY (Over Yonder) Porkburger. Per the waiter, it was one of then few items that has remained on the menu since the joint opened. The bun was pretty average. The patty, all pork, was on the smaller side. It had some flavor, but I think the taste I got from I was more topping oriented. The pickles are house made, those were good. I also had a cup of the daily special gumbo. It was good. I think I enjoyed the gumbo more than the sandwich flavor wise. I brought a butterscotch and toffee pudding home to my ma. She loved it. Brother got the chicken sandwich and really liked it. The beer was also good. They didn't have the seasonal one I wanted, but another stout was present to fill that void in my heart. Overall, great experience, and good food. Worth a shot if you happen through the area.

Risotto and perfectly prepped green beans (with obligatory pickling jar water glasses)

Found this place by accident being the closest place to our B&B. It was in a cute house with a welcoming staff and we expected some decent American fare with some sort of local flair while noting that the parking lot was full which is always a good sign. To our surprise seated on the porch, we were served an exceptional meal from an expertly formulated Old Fashioned to an excellent risotto and the night's special; a lamb porterhouse(!). The 'local flair' came in the form of local sourcing and seasonal fair but rather than being a gimmick, it was a challenge fully met by the kitchen. The bar and bar tender remained unseen by us but did I mention that the Old Fashion was equally exceptional without gimmickry. Visiting Boone? Over Yonder is worth the 20 minute drive into the hills near Valle Crucis.

The fried okra is to die for. Yum. The pimento cheese was also very good but would've been better with chips instead of the fried pita bread. One member of our party really enjoyed the vegetarian sandwich. Most everything else was just so so.

    Cheers!

We stopped in on a Thursday to grab dinner and needed a spot that allowed the dogs. I gave them a ring ahead of time and confirmed that the porch is dog friendly, but no reservations were permitted as it was first come first serve. We arrived at 7 PM and found the porch available (it was cool, so most people opted for staying inside the beautiful old building). Service was friendly and welcoming. We were seated and dogs awed. We ordered the pimento cheese and smoked trout spread for appetizers. The pimento cheese came with warm flatbread and the smoked trout spread comes with sourdough bread, apples, and some pickled vegetables. Both are good options, though I would say the smoked trout is a definite winner! Our table ordered different dinner items. I opted for the rainbow trout, which came with cheesy grits and slaw. It was panned fried to perfection, allowing for the natural flavors of the trout. The cheesy grits were on point. The slaw had more of a citrus taste and I wasn't much of a fan, though others seemed to enjoy it much more. Hubs got the chicken fried chicken. It was everything you think it is and more. I can see why it's highly recommended. Green beans and mashed potatoes came with. The green beans were well cooked and had good garlic flavor. Another of our party got the mushroom stroganoff, which was quite sizable and impressive. I definitely recommend the spot for a warm charm and delightful food. We'll be back to check out the market!

We were visiting from out of town and wanted traditional southern food. Such a unique place with delicious food. We sat on the front porch after dark and it was a super cozy romantic meal.

It might have just been the holiday rush, but I always figure "busy means good," so my expectations were high--and The Local didn't disappoint. We started with the nachos; they were delicious, though I do wish they came with a bit more meat. For mains, the burger was outstanding--probably one of the best we've had in the entire area. We also ordered the Brazilian steak, which was cooked perfectly and came with great plantains. The quinoa with tofu was good, too, though it was a little dry and would have been perfect with a sauce. The service really stood out. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and refilled my water at least four times without me asking. Great ambiance and an all-around good experience. Definitely worth the wait!

Not being too hungry, but knowing we needed something, we decided to just split an order of the pulled pork nachos. The food came out fairly quickly, looked and tasted great. They did not skimp on toppings. Staff was friendly, food was good, only complaint is it was very dark inside, and surprisingly loud in the restaurant, I can't imagine being there with live music, I assume it would be impossible to have a conversation.

The service was nice and attentive. It definitely is a smaller mom and pop type of restaurant but very fun! The TVs had good variety of Olympics and College basketball playing on them so you can catch whatever game or event you want to watch. Now on to the food! To start we got the onion rings. They were cooked very well and I liked the breading of them. I do wish they came with some house dipping sauce or maybe a spicy ranch just to dip them in. They do have ketchup to use but I just feel with onion rings you need some type of spicy ranch or aioli dip with them. Now onto the Fries! I love me some crinkle cut fries and once I saw they had them I needed to get them! They are pillowy with a slight crunch on the outside. They have salt and pepper at the tables to use I do like a bit of old bay or something of that nature on crinkle cut fries that would be my only critique. Now Burger time! I got a patty melt which had onions, cheese burger patty and I put mayo on it. I enjoyed it a lot I do wish the onions weren't red onions and that they would've been caramelized. But the burger itself was seasoned and cooked to perfection! The bread it was on as well was a good rye bread and blended well with everything. The hamburger with jalapeños was good as-well the only critique on that would be the bun. If it had a different bun it would take it to the next level I think. For playing Pool they charge by the hour I believe and the prices were very good! Overall a great little spot to go chill and eat while watching or playing pool and not having to burn a hole in your wallet! I would definitely recommend!

But I wiggled my vehicle into a tight spot and went in for a burger and a beer. I believe there were about 10 to 12 options available on tap, and I went with what was listed as an Irish stout from somewhere in the Northeast. It wasn't bad, though it seemed more like an imperial stout. My sandwich choice was the Cowboy, with ground elk at its core. It was a good choice too, and the accompanying fried onions and melted cheese complemented the meat well. I ordered the burger medium, but I think I'd go for medium rare if I could go back in time. The medium option wasn't bad, but I think a little less heat and a little more moisture would only make things better. I kept things simple with the side item, going for the fries which were of the thinly sliced McDonald's variety, not bad but nothing remarkable. The server covering my table was pleasant and prompt, though soft spoken so I occasionally had to ask her to repeat herself amidst the music and noise. I wouldn't call any of these selections a bargain, but the prices didn't veer too far from what you'll find in many burger joints. All in all, not an earthshaking experience, but a place I'd be willing to go back to. 3.5 stars.
