I visited Outer Limits hoping to get my ears pierced. I walked into the pristine shop and was greeted by the nicest boy. (Tall, thin, sweet- I wish I knew his name- he was awesome and super helpful.) He escorted my boyfriend and me to the back of the shop and began the paperwork process. He patiently answered all of my jewelry questions and made sure we were taken care of before he went back to the front of the store. And, oh, the piercing... If I could give Kent 10 stars, I would. He made the piercing process quick, (nearly) painless, and extremely enjoyable. His demeanor is very relaxed and immediately, I felt comfortable. Kent is very knowledgeable and very well spoken. This shop really is as good as it gets. It has a beautiful, spacious, open layout. It is sqeeky-clean, and all of the staff members are very friendly. Great shop with amazing artist! I believe the shop minimum is $150 an hour. But you pay for the great work you get. They are respectful and offer shields if you have to take off some clothes for the area you're getting tattooed. Your appointment will most likely be a month after your counsulation, so that's not an abnormally long wait. They also call you and remind of you of your appointment. I had a great experience at this shop! It was expensive but, hey, you pay for quality, right? Jhon G did my tattoo and at the time he was new to the shop and had been here on a tattoo visa (one of the hardest visas to get, kudos, jhon) and he did a fantastic job. I was searching for a place in Long Beach to get my very first tattoo and found Outer Limits on Yelp. I saw a lot of positive reviews about this place so it was needless to say I was pretty nervous yet stoked to travel to this place. Well, I walk into the shop and the first thing I can comment on is that the people at the front desk that day had that vibe toward me like I was some sort of outsider. I had some questions to ask about making an appointment with someone who would be able to tattoo my drawing that I had on paper. Right off the bat, the guy says my drawing would be near impossible to draw on my arm due to how it's drawn. I understand that the artists tend to know best with their experience... but come on, this drawing was done by my cousin who is also a renowned tattoo artist himself, it couldn't be that intricate to do on my arm. I left. I went to a different shop who greeted me in quite a friendlier way than these guys. I showed them my drawing and the guy took it, no problem, and said his guy would be able to do it in a couple days. Not only do I have it on my arm now, he made the drawing even better than how I expected it to look. I realize there could be some artists at Outer Limits that have incredible work, so I can't comment on the artists at Outer Limits but the front deskmen hadn't made the best impression for me. read more

So I got a beautiful amazing tattoo from the artist nakota. She was super nice as I was explaining what I wanted. From my experience of getting tattooed I've come to realize the artist knows best as long as they are a good one. I had the idea, I gave it to her and she came out with something even better than my mind could have even imagined! Today I was at Kari Barba's in Long Beach and had a piercing done by John Johnson and he was amazing! So personable and full of great tips and info. I went in with my boyfriend and bestfriend who also had piercing done and they had equaly positive comments. He wouldn't let me hold anyones hand when i was about to get pierced and that I had to suck it up haha but he has some really great breathing excersizes that worked really well for me. I had a bad experience getting my first tattoo so i did a lot more research and searching for a great tattoo parlor. I came across Kari Barba's Outer Limits Tattoo. I went in just to get an idea of the rates and how they could resize the tattoo i wanted so it would fit on my foot. I ended up having Laura Bullets do my tattoo. She was excellent! She did exactly what i wanted and was completely focused on what she was doing. Once she told me that she was in the zone and i was like okay good stay there. Im absolutely going to get my next tattoo done by her. I was entirely impressed and she gave me a paper for caring for my tattoo and i could even email her if i had any questions. The shop displays all the characteristics I was looking for when getting my first tattoo, cleanliness, professionalism, and talent. The shop is very well kept and has enough space for the artists to work comfortably on your skin. Joey Foote was the artist I choose to do work on my arm. His portfolio displayed the artwork I was looking for to bring my particular idea to life. I provided him with a couple of pictures of what I wanted and his sketch was spot on what I had in mind. I was honest with Joey and told him I am colorblind and I am not that great at picking out colors. I left it in his hands to come up with the color scheme. I have a fairly large tattoo so throughout the sessions he walked me through what he had in mind and wanted my opinion as well. Went to Outer Limits two weeks ago for a consultation on 3 small tattoos I wanted to get. They were going to be my first tattoos and I was scared to death of just about every facet involved with getting the work done. The space inside was very clean and well decorated. Apparently it's been a tattoo shop forever. My artist was Mikey V. who was VERY approachable and friendly and was willing to answer any questions I had, regardless of how stupid they probably seemed. I brought my designs in with me and we discussed them at reasonable length. At no point did I feel rushed, underappreciated, or like I was wasting someone's time. After a few minutes, I paid my deposit ($60) and made an appointment for the following weekend. When it came to getting the work done, I found Mikey to be 100% courteous and professional. The level of discomfort for my designs in the areas where I got them was right on par with what he told me to expect and now that I've had my tattoos for a week, I feel everything else he told me to expect was dead-on accurate, too. My designs came out better than I could have hoped for, the pain during the process was minimal and tolerable, and the healing period was virtually painless. The total cost for 3 tattoos (a little over an hour for the work) was $175 and I tipped an additional $60. I suppose I could have gotten them cheaper, but am glad I didn't--These things are for life, people. In short, Mikey was an amazing artist and Outer Limits is a great place to get work done. No part of my experience afforded me any doubt or regrets whatsoever. If you're new like me and are afraid to get a tattoo, go see Mikey at Outer Limits. He'll take care of you. read more

So my brother and I were driving through Long Beach and decided we'd check around for tattoo spots. We stumbled onto this company's website and saw it was the oldest continuously running tattoo shop in America. We needed no further reason to check it out. When we walked in the shop was busy (good sign). I spoke with Matt who was working the front desk and he was very nice and professional in telling me they were pretty busy but that he would still try to find an artist that could consult with me about my walk-in idea. He asked the artists in the shop whether they had the time for a walk-in and one of them, Justin, seemed interested. Matt asked us to hang out for a few minutes and that Justin would come talk to us. Justin came over and we both explained the ideas we wanted. He seemed genuinely stoked to do the work but let us know there were a couple people in line before us. We said no problem; we'd wait. We waited for 3 hours. Most people would probably complain or leave, but Matt checked in with us often, even offering us drinks and snacks during our wait. Justin finished with his clients and then set about drawing our tattoos. He was very receptive to our ideas and seemed to take a lot of pride in his work (which we both greatly appreciated). Justin's work was great. The tattoos were both done clean, timely, and very well. I was very happy with the finished product and our previously negotiated price was very fair. All in all, our experience at Outer Limits Long Beach was top notch. I have over 15 tattoos from shops all over the place. My husband got a tattoo, my daughter got one and so did I. Brian did all 3 of our tattoos and we could not be happier with them. everyone at the shop was proffessional and very friendly.
