I purchase a Suncast deck box and 22 in cubic vertical shed from Outdoor Hardware and had problems with the deck box. The vertical shed was rock solid and not problems. The deck box's top began to warp and did not fit snugly to the rest of the box. I contacted the store and was told to contact Suncast directly. I was told to take pictures, show proof of purchase and they would send replacement parts. I went back to Outdoor Supply to get my receipt and Tanya was very helpful. She spent time looking for the item and said she had 5 in stock and that we could swap them out so I did not not have to put the deck box together in piece meal fashion. Tanya was very helpful. Abysmal customer service. Cashier scanned one too many of my potted plants (I had all of three plants) and didn't notice. My coupon didn't scan, so he asked for help over the radio. It took far too long for one of the two available managers to come up (let me give you my money!). In the meantime, the other cashier came over but didn't end up helping. The manager didn't even look at me, let alone offer a greeting, then approved the wrong amount without even checking my coupon (percentages are hard??) and scurried away. The math didn't math. I came back inside when I realized I had been overcharged for the plants and was offered a refund for that, but I figured it was too much to ask to make my coupon right. I've been shopping here out of convenience but will probably go back to driving across town to a smaller shop. read more

Clean and well stocked hardware store. While it won't have everything bigger chain supply stores may have, it's at least cleaner, less chaotic, and has just as good of brands. The pricing is less competitive but at least checking out is easy compared to the wait in HD that can happen. So depending on how much time I have I might come here instead. I feel perhaps they've pulled a scam with pricing. I need a rake. I happen to walk by the store each day. For the past week (including yesterday), the rake I wanted was out front with a price of $19.99. I was waiting for their big sale today-most things 20% off. I arrived today to find a new sign on the rake $21.99. I talked to a manager who had no idea about pricing. She said corporate sends them price changes. Why did they have price changes (increases) the evening before the store wide sale? I'm disappointed! Although they often didn't have what I needed, it was close by and felt more homey and personal than the 'big box'. I won't be returning there, unless time is of the essence. read more

We went to their store looking for supplies and equipment. Lars was the store representative, he was extremely helpful. Had excellent knowledge on all the various tool brands sold there, ie Makita, Milwaukee, etc and directed us to each row when we were looking for the products. He was very kind and made us feel special and listened to what we needed. An exceptional person. I'll always ask for Lars when we visit there again. read more

I believe these stores are owned by the same owners as OSH since you see the OSH logo throughout the store and it is because of that reason that you find whatever it is you're looking for. They got everything: Garden, cleaning supplies, landescaping, tools, hardware, lights, faucets,etc. The prices on most stuff are close to competition but there are some big ticket items that are a lot more expensive than anywhere else. The customer service is excellent and most associates were knowledgeable and helpful. Because of the layout and the size of the store, however, it was sometimes difficult to find someone to help. But all in all a good store to spend time and shop at. read more

The store is great. The staff that helped me ( 2 people ) both were anything but friendly. I bought paint. Opened the can. It's dried up. The entire container. It's my first time going into an establishment since the pandemic began, and now I have to go all the way back in, bring the new can to the paint counter, have them Open and check it to make sure it isn't dried up again. It takes a long life on a shelf to have paint dry up. Pretty disappointing for a company only opened for 5 months. read more

It's awesome to have an OSH again! Location in Capitola, CA near Baskin Robbins. Same as the old OSH (Orchard Supply) right before "the end". In other words, this one has patio furniture and grills, and 4-5 registers (not 13 registers) - not the original OSH (1990's), but still awesome hardware, paint, and garden. Same basic hours as before, same look and feel, basically the same layout with the hardware corral on the right as you enter.....bathrooms on the left by the patio furniture. I'm thrilled they have an entire aisle of Carhart bibs, pants and shirts. (I'll still likely go to Work World for women's Carhart gear, but still.) Stihl aisle (string trimmers, etc) Dewalt Makita Yeti outdoor stuff (even Yeti sweatshirts) Some kid toys Water features Pumps (sump, fountains) Lawnmowers (a few push kind) Hardware cloth (many choices) Garden is smaller? (less plants, houseplants inside) ......anyway, same basic departments Now I'm starting to wonder if they have a "pickup" location. I'll go look. A do it yourself paradise! There is a lot to like here! During the quarantine/ lockout in 2020 I discovered I have a talent for building or fixing things and I used to come here often. 1. First and foremost they are very well stocked with a wide variety of hardware. And it's generally stuff that a contractor would use (which is often opposed to what's going on at the big-boxed stores). And they always have what I need, even if it's some semi-obscured item. 2. Service and quality. I was looking for 50mm screws and plastic wall plugs for my floating shelves that I made, and without them I would have to start over, so it saved me the hassle and headache. 3. Prices are great! I don't have to stroll aisle after aisle! Everything is perfectly organized in areas that actually make sense. I went there to pick up a part i needed i stepped into the store pushing my scooter. The counter help very rudely barks "no bikes in the store " i stopped walking looked at him and asked why ??? . Help gruffed back "store policy " and just looked at me like i had committed a crime. Well...given I recall the heyday of Orchard Supply, when they had great customer service, good selection of products and an easy to navigate store, I was pleased to see Outdoor Supply in the former OSH location. I was a bit disappointed. Customer service was sparse and not proactive in their assistance, I wandered awhile before I found someone to help me find my desired purchases. ( A store directory would be helpful. There are still a few of us who can read a map... and cursive). Upon checkout and proffering my CC, was told they needed photo ID. Huh, that's somewhat surprising in this day and age. Trekked out to my car to fetch it up. I was not combative when I asked if I'd need to show ID each time, (thinking perhaps they had the point of purchase software that required a one-time photo ID verification), and was treated to a teenager mansplaining to me that they "couldn't memorize every face." No, really? Thanks for explaining that young man, because by your world wise and youthful measure, I'm an old lady who couldn't possibly understand how computers work. As these items were not immediately needed, they could have very easily been obtained from Amazon, at a lesser price and sans vexation. But I wanted to shop locally. sigh. This is how a business dies, one customer at a time, taking their money elsewhere. In part, it's what happened to Orchard Supply. I had another errand nearby and I needed some potting soil so I stopped into OSH. Never again. I ran into an associate near the back doors for the potting soil and not being sure where it was I asked he pointed out the back doors and never said anything about helping me even though I didn't have a cart OK no harm no foul let's move on to check out... The cashier moved like an absolute sloth and made no attempt to help me with my large bag of potting soil neither did the cashier behind me who became available after I got into her checkout stand. She then as a struggle to hold half of the potting soil up asked how I was going to pay but haven't yet started to ring up and asked if I was paying with credit or debit I thought for a second and said credit and she said I'm going to need to see your ID. I responded to this withI'm going to pay with Apple Pay so I don't think you need to see my ID. She retorted Well you didn't say that. To which I stated it wasn't one of your options to which she then stated slowly without looking up I guess we're both right. I hadn't been in awhile but I saw that they had some deck storage boxes outside so I went in to check them out. Everything is cleaned well-stocked, and whatever they did to rearrange the store makes it look about twice as big inside. Everyone that helped me was super helpful and friendly. They didn't have the box I wanted in stock so Dave looked and found some at other stores. I called back in a couple days and they told me that they were in a store in SJ. Though I was a little entitled (but shut the Karen down posthaste) about not wanting to drive over the hill, so they said they would be able to get it for me in Capitola. I actually found a wood one that was about half the price online and was going to call them, but I got a call that the other one was in. Dang, everyone was so friendly and helpful, and likely went out of their way to get it, I really felt terrible to have to tell them I bought one already. I drove past Home Depot to give my money to OSH. Inside picking up lots of small things in the electrical department and hardware, placing the items in my cloth bag I brought inside, instead of buying one at the checkout stand. While on my way back to get grass seed and fertilizer, was informed by a OSH employee that I could not carry my own bag in that I would have to immediately take it to the front of the store. This makes no sense other than to sell bags at checkout. So, instead of getting the rest of the items I wanted, I did as the male employee demanded and walked straight up to the checkout. Note I am a 70 year old well-dressed man. I'm not going to be so petty to say I'll never shop here again. However, I will say it does not make sense, nor did it make me feel warm and fuzzy towards OSH. read more

Great selection of drill hardware , staff overeagerly to help in fact they said I can , I mean I need to leave my bag at the counter, ( wish they offered to hold my helmet too for my motorcycle, ) also wished tge one guy following me around very closely , actually awkwardly closely had any kniwkedge of anything they sold , like lithium batteries? Who doesn't know what lithium batteries are? Even when I walked to the battery dejection he couldn't point out where they sold lithium batteries, which they had a very small selection of. And he kept asking is there anything else you need? What? I can find it. Well he couldn't find anything and I felt singled out, eventhough they yiungesrrr at the counter offered to unlock anything in hardware which I took him to on , which they heft at the register s store usually do . But that was when I was given an old guy rushing my every move shadow around the store. I get it it's Santa Cruz , but they seriously need help with educating their staff about what they carry, as well as hiring real security that doesn't burden your customers making them feel unwelcome. Maybe there would be customers, cause by the completely empty parking lot I thought they had closed down. I also don't wanna be crowded and have to of produce answers to shop, can't a person come to a store without C a list and browses and pick up items as I see them . I could and would have spent much mites but not when some old dude who isn't of any help follows ya as close as 4feet the whole time.. like let me breath . Prices are much higher here than other Hardware stores. Went there today to look at paints, brought our English Bully with us. Older lady upfront, asked if he could have a treat and I said yes. We proceeded to go out to the garden area and the same lady from upfront was there in the garden area, conversing with another employee. She saw our dog and immediately said, "oh, here is that fat dog" and walked away. I thought that was extremely rude and uncalled for. Would you tell someone with a child the same thing? Dogs are family and insults such as this reflect on the owners. We have raised English Bullies for over 15 years, and we pride ourselves on taking care of our pets. I was in the market for a new cooler and I had heard this store had a large Yeti brand cooler section. I got to the store right as they opened, hoping to increase my chances of finding a cooler I liked. I walk to the cooler section of the store and am immediately underwhelmed. Their Yeti brand cooler inventory was tiny. I was hoping for some medium to large coolers, but all they carried were the small models. The largest Yeti cooler they had in stock was a Roadie 24, and the color options were limited. I then look down the line to the Igloo brand coolers they carried and they had two sizes available in the medium to large range. They had a 168 hour cooler which met my needs so I decided to pick one up. The coolers were locked to the shelves, because apparently cooler theft is a huge problem, so I had to ask an associate to unlock it for me. I brought the cooler to the register and I'm about to buy the thing when I start to inspect it. I find that the sides and the bottom of the cooler are covered in dents. It looked as though this particular cooler had been at the bottom of a shipping stack and had been crushed during transit. The employee sees the dents and scans the barcode to see if they have more of the same model in stock. Of course they don't. I'm not saying the whole store is bad, it looked quite nice, but find another store if you're looking for a cooler because their selection here is terrible. read more

Loved the old OSH, before it closed down - prices were a bit higher, but the folks working there were knowledgeable and friendly. This new "Outdoor" (instead of "Orchard") version looks similar but it is lacking in some of the wood that I went to the old one for. Where it really falls short is the staffing - neither knowledgeable nor friendly. Instead of me following an employee around to find the stuff I want, I end up checking the aisles with some employee following me - not helping mind you, just following in a creepy way. A bummer, since it's a much nicer physical environment than Home Depot, but guess I'll be shopping elsewhere for the prices (priced tools and wood, both 1.5x to 2x the price found elsewhere) and better assistance when desired. read more

DO NOT Come here if you are buying a HOLIDAY GIFT, or ANY GIFT For that matter! Here is why.... Even if you have the receipt, even if you paid with a pin and it cleared week ago, The Person CANNOT RETURN the item for cash, OR Store Credit! Can't even put it on a different card. Which means the if the gift receiver wants to exchange it, they cannot. They may embarrass themselves contacting you about a return because You can get your money back on the same card, but they cannot exchange the item. How do I Know?.... I had my handyman purchase $40 worth of product (4stove inlets). He paid with his debit card with PIN, and I paid him cash. The parts do not fit, and were unused labels attached and I had the receipt.... The manager REFUSED To give me store credit for an exchange, and even though it was a debit payment that cleared a week ago, which by law is as good as cash, they won't give me cash even though I have the receipt. No Cash, No Store Credit for exchange, no credit back to a different card, so guess what, they kept the product and My money went to the handymans debit-card, and Im out $40 cash, because they refuse to allow store credit or cash back on a debit payment purchase. Who does this? This is not practiced ANYWHERE else that I have ever been to in California or any other state in USA. But how do you justify not providing store credit for items purchased with receipts in hand from only a week ago???? I will NEVER ever ever be back to buy anything here again. HOME DEPOT is Down the street and they NEVER treat customers like this for returns !!!!! If you have a receipt at HD, you get your money back, period! However you want it! Every time. Am a first responder that lives 5 hours away. I Was placed on a strike team while on duty and told to come here and help out( Santa Cruz) I needed a jacket/sweater to keep me warm due to us sleeping in our ambulances for our shifts here. Went to this store and an employee first told me jackets are expensive here. ( didn't think much of it) then I picked one out and she came up to me and Accused me of taking two of them and told me to pay for both.( I showed her I only had one on that I was trying on to see how it fits). Then she said take it off you can't have it on due to covid. At this point i had enough and took off the jacket and apologized for trying it on and told her I would find another store. Been there a few times now. Clearly someone knows what they're doing. Supply of tools is great, hardware selection is amazing. Few know what metric rivnuts are but they gottem! Unbelievable. Shedding the connection to Lowes let them get better outdoor power (Stihl) and a lot more hand tool options than Craftsman. People are helpful and not clingy. If you say 'i'm fine' they leave you alone. If you ask for help, you get it. Everything is as it should be and things are right in the world again. Um, sorta.
