I contracted Jorge for an over $4000 job and had MANY issues with Jorge. Beware! Prior to contracting Jorge, I was very unfortunate to miss the following preparation steps: 1. ENJOY THE WORST POSSIBLE RESULTS Check the pictures of the final results of the contractor's sodding work. Make sure you want the same. When Jorge did the sodding in February the sod looked dead (cause most likely it was). Jorge assured me it is "hibernated" and will recover shortly. Obviously, it never happened and, two months later, most of the grass is just as dead as it was at the moment of sodding (see the pics). It's remarkable that Jorge calls it a good work! 2. PREPARE TO GET DAMAGED AND WORK INCOMPLETE He was resodding my front yard. He didn't finish his job, left garbage and damaged the front yard appearance of my neighbor's property so I got a reasonable complaint from the neighbor demanding me to fix it. Quoting my neighbor: "The landscape crew that re-sodded your front yard left a strip of plowed up soil/mud between your property and mine. It looks terrible, for both properties." On my request to finish the job and fix the damage, Jorge stated that he "miscalculated" the costs and now wouldn't fix the damage without extra payment of $400. (See the snapshot) Unfortunataly, I have already paid Jorge in full by that time since he pressed me a lot asking to be considerate and enable him to pay his people. GET READY TO BE PRESSED FOR FULL PRE-PAYMENT Further, he ignored my messages and only agreed to do it after multiple calls and messages and after I promised to remove a negative review. 3. GET READY TO SEE UNEXPLAINED CHARGES ON THE ESTIMATE Jorge added items on the estimate that were just meant to increase the bill without discussion and explanation. Thus, I got $300 "Overhead" added to the estimate (see the picture). He "clarified" it was added because my project was bigger than usual. Note, he didn't provide any discount because the project was big. On the opposite he tried to charge me more! 4. PREPARE TO GET THINGS SUDDENLY BROKEN AND TO BE CHARGED TO FIX THEM I had an incident when my irrigation very unexpectaedly got pipes broken in 3 different places and 3 sprinklers suddently got broken ONE WEEK (!) following the irrigation fix by Jorge. Since the rest of the landscaping project depended on the irrigation I was forced to get it repaired immediately. The circumstances in which the above got broken were very strange and unlikely. 5. PREPARE TO BE CHARGE EXCEEDINGLY IF THE CONTRACTOR IDENTIFIES YOU BADLY NEED THE PROJECT DONE To fix the broken irrigation pipes (that unexpectedly got broken one week after being fixed by Jorge) he orignally tried to charge me $450 per pipe. So, $1350 to repair 3 small plastic pipes (see pic.). 6. GET READY TO THE ESTIMAES TO GET INCREASED ~X3 TIMES BECAUSE OF "MISTAKES" In my understanding, Jorge is trying to take advantage of the situation to bill you to the max and his quote are also rapidly increasing. So, for example, in the above incident, he first quoted me $450. Then, he notified me of a "quoting mistake" demanding $1350 probably taking advantage that I wasn't present fisically on the spot and that the project was urgent. 7. GET READY TO NEGOTIATE OR BE OVERCHARGED and paying ~3 times more. Now, when I told him I wasn't able to pay this much he retracted back to $550. 8. TAX EVASION Jorge apparently tried to avade taxation on his income. Thus he is urging you to pay him in cash or in personal checks. Since Jorge demanded it, I paid him in personal checks and he never provided a receipt. 9. PREPARE FOR COMPLAINTS FROM YOUR NEIGHBORS Jorge left garbage on the neighbors lawn and the bricks uncollected (see the pictures). (I can also provide snapshots of messages from my contractor). Jorge only agreed to collect the garbage after multiple calls and messages and lots of time spent on my part. Even then, his original proposal was to leave the garbage sacks uncollected for over a week on neighbors lawn read more

Update: Gave him another chance thinking maybe there were some communication gaps, expectations not made clear or something that was the reason for all the previous problems. The first service back I asked his team to help install a couple sprinkler heads after they finish with the lawn and to to let me know when they're done so I can turn the sprinklers on for testing. They spent less than 15mins on the lawn, installed the sprinkler heads incorrectly and ran off without letting me know or testing. Then when I asked why they didn't knock on the door they came up with some excuse about how they thought I wasn't home even though I literally greeted them when they arrived. On top of that, the lawn looked like it wasn't even touched with grass still overgrown in several areas. Had a irrigation specialist come out and tell me the heads were installed completely wrong and in some cases pointed directly at my house instead of the garden. After hearing that, I promptly told Jorge his services were no longer needed. I now have a garden guy, singular, who does a phenomenal job every time with no problems for the last 4 months. He single handedly is doing a better job than this entire team. read more

Jorge and team were very communicative throughout the process - from quote to project completion. We shopped around for quotes and theirs was certainly the most thoughtful and detailed when it came to really understanding what it was that the customer was wanting. Jorge laid out the project timeline and expected activities to be accomplished on each milestone date, which made tracking progress towards project completion easy to accomplish. At the end of the project, we noticed that our newly constructed flowerbed brick edging was not draining rainwater efficiently. We reached back out to Jorge and team and they quickly scheduled a follow-up session to correct the issue and even performed another set of fine-tuning to the capstones to improve their consistency w/ one another while they were at it. All in all, we really enjoyed our experience with Outdoor Appeal, the level of attention you receive with them by having a dedicated project manager assigned to your project, as well as the quality and professionalism of the completed work. The review has a mix of extremes that I don't want to distort anyone. Just a few honest feedback to share with the consumers. Don't rely too much on the quote. You may end up to pay much more than the quote. My sprinkler heads under station 1 didn't work so I looked for service to repair/replace the valve for station 1. I was quoted a range between $150 to $250 depending on the difficulties. My expectation was at the low end because I have the diagram map to show the exact location of the valve and it took about one minute digging to find the valve under the ground. A bit to my surprise that wiring checking and testing incur extra cost which I thought should be included in any project installation like this. I had my own brand new valve which I bought 1.5 years ago. My assessment that the wiring should be okay because when the control was turned on, water seeps out from the sprinkler heads just unable to shoot out the spray. So I bypassed the wiring & testing to save some money. I was told to pay $200 for valve replacement using my own valve. When the job started, I was told that another valve next to the bad one though working perfect was dirty and recommended to replace it with discount since they were already there. I was offered $150 as the low end of the quote. At first I denied the offer but then I was given $10 more discount for $140 so I accepted (although in my mind I was puzzled how the valve under the ground can be not dirty?). I paid total $340 but unfortunately after replacement of the 2 valves, the station 1 valve with sizzling sound but still didn't work. I was told that the valve I provided was bad and they had to come in another day to fix it. I was sad that in the end after paying $340, my bad valve still not working and my good valve was replaced. The follow up communication was a bit sluggish that I was afraid they might not come back after taking the money. Thanks God that eventually there was respond back that they would come to redo the work for station 1 valve but I had to pay another $180 as the redo was more difficult than the first-time installation. I was thinking then why the first-time installation much easier but I was charged $200 with my own valve but I was already in an unfavorable position not to bargain anything but wished to get the problem resolved. A bad experience that I paid $520 to fix a problem caused by the failure of one single sprinkler valve. I am not sure whether the price is reasonable or not but I feel the approach in the whole process may not be very appropriate. read more

So when the storm hit, it became very apparent that we needed to cut the trees back before we could tackle the roof. I am thrilled! I just moved into a house that needs a lot of TLC. I have been reaching out to contractors left and right and let's just say it's been frustrating. Either they want to tell you what to do or won't touch the job unless it's $X amount...or they don't send the quote or they ghost you...Then Jorge responded, stopped by w/in 24 hours...gave me an excellent quote. And due to his professionalism, honesty and knowledge... I wanted to change it up and do a little more. I believe by the time it was all said and done, he had to change his quote 3 times because of my changes. And he did with a smile and never did I sense he was irritated. The job was quoted to take 4-5 days...done to perfection in 3! Constant communication when I had questions, I knew delivery time frames and when they would show up and leave.
