The menu is small but has all the essentials that a wine bar should have- charcuterie and cheese, tapenade, bread olives etc. After one glass we decided to try a bottle, and on recommendation by the staff ordered a lovely red from the cote du Rhone region, which was lush and velvety and fairly priced at £17.50 (plus £5 corkage to drink in). They are now doing a simple but really well-executed menu of food: mainly focused on charcuterie, cheese and different flavoured bruschettas. So similar to what the other wine bars are doing around London but a little bit better. Their burrata is large but disappears very quickly from the table... All of their cured meats are delicious too. If you need to get out of the house in the morning it's a great place to read a book/newspaper and enjoy a beautiful Italian roast coffee and some sourdough toast. An inconsequential place where nobody really chooses to go, however you often always end up there. It seems to be a choice meeting place for people, and I've often been to parties there. I'm not sure why, just a few weeks back, this girl I know thought that a good place for her 21st would be a sweaty, loud and cramped Hob Nobs. I can kind of see her logic though. If only seven people turned up, she'd still look popular as the excess numbers would be spilling out of the doors. Part of my problem is just taste. They blare out music here that I hoped would die out in the late nineties, and the people who frequent there, whilst I never wanted to do at least hoped would relocate. This has not been the case. If you like loud, cramped places full of attitude and aftershave, this place is for you.

The décor is Victorian and the walls are covered with various beer memorabilia, most coming from somewhere else of course, but that doesn't make it look any less impressive. The drinks are cheap, about 2 pounds a pint for the ales. The lagers are a little more. The reason why the ale is so reasonable? Well it is brewed just out back. This pubs small beer garden separates the pub from the Brodie's brewery. They do make some excellent beers. The Blonde and the sunshine were my favourites but I managed to sample most of them and they were all pretty decent. The Thai food here is reputed to be excellent. I'm afraid I only tried some prawn crackers but they were certainly decent so I'd be keen to try a full meal here sometime. This is a really excellent pub, very close to a 5 rating, but I'd like to come back to be sure.
