This is a small, yet bustling restaurant. A U-shaped bar wraps around a fully visible kitchen. Service and experience are quite incredible. The menu is mostly small plates, intended to be shared and may come out as they're ready. We were just the two of us and here's what we ordered: We started it all off with Naan e Barbari and chose Zhoug and Za'aluk sauces to go with that. Then we moved onto Crispy Violet Artichokes, the Labneh, Hatzil, Parsley, the Fattoush salad and the Chilli Cauliflower. Along with these came the Coffee Rub Chicken, and the Pata Negra Pluma as our main proteins. Every bit of this experience and every plate is exquisite. I couldn't recommend The Barbary enough. Staff in general were friendly but they made a mistake with my coffee and when I corrected the lady she didn't like it. On my way to Hammersmith I am usually tempted by their desserts but I try and stop myself, not only to avoid calories but also bad humour.

Mangal II is the crowning glory of East London's Turkish restaurants and displays this fact proudly on a window adorned with so many paper clippings it looks sponsored by Time Out. The menu is vast and everything on it (I go there a lot) is delicious, extra special is the vegetarian moussaka. It's a traditional ocakbasi restaurant with all the delicious meats and sauces sizzling away on hotplates and a big flame grill. This can be distracting when especially hungry, I have found myself on dates here, staring, drooling, nostrils flaring at the chefs, completely ignoring which ever poor soul I roped in to my feeding frenzy. This is one of my favourite restaurants in London, its perfect in every way and if you don't believe me, just ask Gilbert and George.

The atmosphere was so relaxed and cosy, with exotic music, I felt like I was in a little taverna somewhere in Greece rather than sitting in Camden. Twice. Then they didn't come at all but the table next to us kept getting them. Very strange. Food also took a while and came out in random intervals. The grilled veggies were dry and tasteless. The reviews of this place are so good that our experience must have been an anomaly. Still we won't rush back anytime soon.

They couldn't stop raving over their dishes. The wine recommendation was great. We went through two bottles and photographed it so we could purchase once we got home.
