With such great tasting food & in a lovely setting, its a SHAME that Mama Jumbe's is a disappointment; leaving the celebrant crying & caused an anxiety attack.
22 of us came here for a friends birthday party last night and were expecting a variety of Real Ugandan dishes, a good 30, as promised when the birthday girl herself spoke to the manager weeks&days before; but were extremely disappointed by the lack of dishes and the overall disrespectful customer service.
They call it a buffet, but it was hardly that; with only 9 things to choose from & we had the owner/manager continously watching & stopping us from taking what we had paid for, claiming that "he's trying to run a business". (There are 22 paying customers in an empty "restaurant", we are your business + African dishes are naturally filling, so there was no way anyone was having more than 3 plates)
Why call the service a buffet & try and restrict paying customers to 1 plate.... After they've paid £13 a head?
To make matters worse, a good 8 of us hadn't eaten yet & half the food was finished & we had to continously go back & ask him to refill, to which they claimed the food was finished, which seemed idiotic for a buffet. We gave them enough notice to the amount of people coming.
The manager made no effort to rectify the issue, no apologies, rather making excuses for his mistakes & treating us (paying customers) as if we were stealing.
Their drinks were shamelessly overpriced too.
(300ml Supermalt bottle for £2.50 :/)
Dont get me wrong, the little food we had was good, hats off to the chef, but the awful customer service & ridiculous manager spoilt all that. Especially on my friends birthday.
Please! dont waste your hard earned money here. I am sure they are other places that serve food, just as good.
Im still searching for a great Ugandan restaurant. read more
