I first heard about the Persian Palace over three years ago when I met Allen D (fellow reviewer) at a Yelp event in Soho. Back then he told me about this Persian restaurant in Ealing and I promised I would check it out eventually. Forward several years - I still haven't kept my promise - I receive the following Yelp compliment from Allen D: "Happy New Year Mr Uli. You know every time I end up in Persian Palace I wonder if you've managed to try Persian yet!" Seriously, how can I not but strap on my boots and venture out to Ealing after receiving such a note! I arrived at Persian Palace on a Sunday evening around 7pm and I was greeted by a line of about 15 people. Great...maybe I should've read the reviews forewarning me about this. But I'm in good spirits, have a book on me and am starving...so I queue up in very English fashion. The line moves quite quickly and after about 20-25 minutes waiting I am being offered a table. Once seated I whip out my Yelp App with the intention of studying the other people's reviews for food recommendations. But the nice waitress disapproves of this behaviour. When she sees me studying my phone, she says something like this: "No need to google the best dishes, that's what I am here for!" I loved her for this frankness and right away switched off my phone and waited for her input. I ended up ordering the following starter and main course with her: Starter: Kashk-E-Badenjan (sauteed aubergine, walnuts, garlic, whey and mint) with bread Main: Momtaz (one skewer of marinated chicken fillet and one skewer of mince lamb kabab served with rice, grilled tomato) Drink: Doogh (yogurt-based beverage seasoned with mint; similar to the Turkish Ayran) All of the above items were plentiful and delicious and I was happy as a puppy! And even though I was quite satiated after these two rather big portions, I still remembered a dessert when I had first read Allen's review: Paloodeh (or has he spelt it: Faloodeh). Paloodeh is a Persian sorbet threaded with rice noodles and flavoured with rose water. It's served along with a fresh slice of lemon, which you're supposed to squeeze over the sorbet. I have to say this was the highlight of my dinner. The unusual combination of sorbet and vermicelli noodles was exotic and absolutely delicious. I loved it! This is now one of the best Persian Restaurants in London. Portions are big, and the food is great. During busy times expect to wait for over 30 minutes, but it's worth it. And be patient waiting for your food! They have a good selection of starters - it's worth trying them all, with their fresh bread. If you're new to Persian food then start with a Makhsoos (kebab with rice) for your main course, and on your next visit try their Boneless Chicken! If you're feeling adventurous then try their version of the famous Persian Doogh (yoghurt drink), and finish your meal off with either a traditional Bastani (creamy ice cream) or a Faloodeh (Noodle based sorbet). I've tried most of the Iranian Restaurants in London - Behesht, Alounak, etc, and for the portions, quality of the food, and value for money that you get, Persian Palace is still the best. By the way, if you try the Faloodeh then make sure you drizzle some lemon juice on it!!! :) read more

I have already left a review but I thought i would do another for people who are wondering what goes into the minced meat. As a fellow Iranian who has grown up making koobideh (minced meat) it includes grated onion, salt, pepper and other seasoning (various), flour (optional). Its perfect if the meat is naturally a little oily. It tastes exactly like the home made one I've grown up eating. Hope this is helpful! read more

Take away review: This is EXPENSIVE. And it's BAD. We ordered food for 6 of us so tried lots of the different Grill dishes. All were flavourless meat sitting in an ocean of flavourless rice. The bread (which is normally one of the BEST bits) was frequently compared to cardboard. Literally no flavour in anything. Except the pickles - to be fair - the pickles were a hit. EVERYTHING ELSE = super bland. There are so many Persian and Middle eastern grill options in West Ealing you're better off trying somewhere else. read more

I was staying nearby and I saw how packed this place was at 2pm so I had to check it out. Let me say this first. HUGE PORTIONS. This is a must try if you are hungry. I had a rice entree that included lamb and chicken from a skewer along side a salad. The meat was very tasty. I also tried the doogh, a yogurt type of drink. It was pretty good, probably even better if I had something spicy so it could cut the heat for me. Great place for small groups. It was a bit loud in the restaurant but not bad. The place was nicely decorated and it had a large tv in the middle. This was nice because I'm here in London for the 2012 Olympics :) I definitely recommend this place! read more

On second thoughts. I'm a little wary as to what goes into their minced lamb skewers. The texture is way too soft for meat and the only thing I tasted was spices. Lamb is a strongly flavoured meat and not tasting it at all doesn't sit well with me. read more

It is days like this I wish I could give half stars! This place is definitely closer to 4 stars than 3 but not quite a full 4 stars. First, the good: the service is great and everyone is so polite and smiley. Also, the portion sizes are definitely huge! I ended up taking home half of my meal and even my 'never leave leftovers' husband left half of his rice! They also luckily give you boxes to take home your leftovers. We tried the doogh (a yogurt drink), which was our first time trying it, and we liked it although a jug is a lot for two people. We also had a tasty starter which was aubergine with walnuts and mint. It was served with a hot thin bread and was a great way to start the meal. The not-so-good: I always put a disclaimer when it's the first time I try a food. I have nothing to compare it to and so I always feel that's a bit unfair when I don't love the food. To be honest, I thought that the lamb kebab would be similar to Moroccan (yes, I realize they are nowhere near each other!) or Lebanese spicing but it was definitely different. For me, it could have done with a bit more of a kick of spice but maybe that's not typical of the cuisine. The lamb kebab also had a bit of strange consistency, a bit too soft for me and too greasy. My husband ordered the lamb and chicken mix and that was pretty good, both meats tastier than mine. The naan that was served with it was ok but I've had better. The price is average with my lamb kebabs a very affordable £7 and the larger dishes with more lamb ranging from £9-14. I would like to try Iranian again because, as I mentioned, it's not fair to judge cuisine on one restaurant but I'm not sure I would come here again. All the same, if you're in the area I think it's worth a try! read more

What a great place. It was the first time I had persian and I loved it. I expected to wait for a table, but luckily we got one instantly. The portions are huge. Can't remember the name of the starter or main but both were really good. I tried the drink called dough. Wasn't my favourite but I the others liked it. Overall experience was great. Have been coming to Persian Palace for the last few years. Food still delicious however.... I went there last week and portions seem to be smaller than before, had to ask for 2 pieces of bread (as one is not enough anymore, too small). We had to ask for butter (before it was a standard) and there was no grilled tomato! Which used to be add to every meal. Asked for starter (herbs mint and rosemary, feta cheese and walnuts) but herbs looked dirty (not washed) and not very fresh. Little bit disappointed.... Also it's getting little bit expensive there. Anyway I will give it 5 stars as this is sentimental place to me and staff is friendly. But they will have to keep the standards up if they want to keep customers happy. read more

This is my new favourite place to eat. You have to queue to get a table, but we weren't waiting too long, about 5 minutes. We had huge plates of kebabs with salad and rice, all delicious and really good value for money. The decor is nice, the waiters are friendly, and although we didn't try them, the breads being cooked fresh by the door looked incredible. My one mistake, I didn't leave space for dessert. read more

For the food it's a 4/5 star. If you want to go here make a reservation for dinner service. I've never been or seen this place during lunch time so i cant comment on that. Excellent portion size and the food was tasty! 1. Chargrilled fillet of lamb with rice and salad was a 4/5 and had a decent portion size. (£11.00) 2. The chicken skewers were nicely grilled and it tasted good. 4/5. (£8.50) we ordered a side of bread between 4 people and it was enough to go around. Negatives: the service was initially ok but after we got our food they didn't come by and ask if we wanted more drinks. Overall, good place to go with a group. The prices were reasonable for a tasty meal. also, NO ALCOHOL IS SERVED AT THIS RESTAURANT which is a bummer if you are going out for a nice meal. read more

This place is the shizz! Persian Palace has been one of my favourite Persian restaurants since I discovered it a few years ago. The food is tasty and extremely consistent, and the portions are massive: think being plied with comfort food by your doting parents and grandparents on a rare visit home. I've been trying to cut down on my portions lately, but the only way you're going to fight the urge to lick the plate clean is to go halfsies with someone else, which you can quite comfortably do if you're both tiny girls! If you do manage it on your own however, you might have to discreetly undo a few buttons while waiting for the bill and then waddle on home. The menu isn't large, and hasn't changed much over the last few years, but it never gets old. What I especially love is that the rice that accompanies the mains differ according to the main component. If you order the makhsous (two juicy and mouthwateringly tender strips of grilled lamb fillet and minced lamb off skewers), you get buttery, salty basmati/Iranian rice, with a sour prune powder. If you order the braised chicken, your rice comes mixed in with tangy barberries and pistachio slivers - so delicious! The one fish main has always been sold out everytime I've asked for it, so it must be impressive. If you're after something lighter, try their stews, which all come with rice. Persian Palace does some pretty fine ones, including Khoresht Ghormeh Sabzi (lamb, red kidney beans and dried limes) and Khoresht Gheimeh Badenjan (lamb, split yellow peas, dried limes and aubergine). Vegetarian options used to be limited to the appetisers, but they recently made their Khoresht Bamieh (that simple okra and lamb tomato stew which every Persian restaurant serves) vegetarian. The appetisers are all delicious and well-made. The Kashk Badenjan (a dip made out of aubergine, walnuts, garlic, whey and mint) is one of my favourites. Taftoon, or naan is freshly handmade to order at the front of the restaurant, which it always should be! Drinks are non-alcoholic and as per usual, apart from the salty, rich Doogh yoghurt drink. I've seen some people bring their own liquor though. I can't comment on the desserts; sadly my stomach can only accommodate research on drinks, starters and mains. The staff are friendly, polite and are good at remembering faces. Best of all, it's open all day till near midnight, so if you're feeling peckish and want quality takeaway, truck on down to Persian Palace! A word of warning though - street parking goes fast as there are a few other Persian restaurants in the area too, and customers pretty much flock to the area in droves from 7.30pm. Best to check the area for single yellow lines on Google Maps before heading out! read more

Everytime I visit its crazy busy chicken kebab and rice with some bread is bloody awesome. If im dinning alone and just want grab takeout its a pain in the rear. Hence the four stars. They need to move the people waiting for a tabke away from the counter or pay more attention to people coming in then 5 stars read more

It was the worst place I have ever been to. I had food poisoning from there when I had been sick because of being served poor quality food due to your hygeine standards. I would have sued your company to have shut your place down after what I was served. How dare you make me sick?. read more

Mohammed and his friendly and diligent staff run a VERY popular restaurant here in West Ealing. (Nearest tube is Ealing Broadway, contrary to to Yelp! info here). Various stories abound in local folklore about various rivalries and skulduggery between those competing for this lucrative portion of the eatery market. Regardless, the result here is one of the best value restaurants in London. Well turned out Iranian families (often three generations strong) rub shoulders with locals and people who travel from further afield to sample what can only be described as a feast. I don't know how they do the rice, but it's phenomenal. Rock up with your friends, order at least half a dozen starters between you to share, DEFINITELY get as much of their freshly-made (to order!) bread as you can and take it from there. It's a sociable, fun affair helped by the bustle and vibe of the place, with Iranian pop music adding to the feeling that you've got a little portion of Tehran right here in West London. It doesn't have the decorative splendour of some other Iranian places in London, but the food is just delicious. Fantastically flavoured and very well cooked - a mixture of stews, first class kebabs and the fantastic chicken (have to disagree with Allen D - get it ON the bone!) will delight your taste-buds until the point where you realise you've eaten so much you can barely walk, despite having only spent £12 all-in. It's spotlessly clean and the waiting staff are very friendly despite how busy the place gets. Although they do take-away I'd recommend a sit-down meal at Persian Palace for the atmosphere. Having tried the other newcomers to the Uxbridge Road Persian scene I'd say that Persian Palace still has the edge on food quality and price, even if the décor elsewhere looks more enticing. Anyone who fancies a drink should go early and head to the Red Lion in South Ealing afterwards as I think they only really have a couple of beers kicking around. There isn't a wine list or bar as far as I'm aware. But it doesn't matter - the food and atmosphere will be more than enough for a great evening. read more

I eat out quite a lot but not so far at a Persian restaurant. So was quite excited to give it a go. Portions were definitely large. My skewered lamb chunks had a very strong and variable flavour which worried me a bit. (Stomach was not good 2 days later). Overall it, from starter and main, was a bit bland and I was underwhelmed. The Food in this place is mouth wateringly delicious. I recommend the mix platter which can easily feed 4 people and you will all go home happy. We had our dinner here but when we noticed that they are serving alocohol's in the same glasses as soft drinks, i spoke to the manager about this. First she denied, that this is not the case, but when i offered her to come see for herself, she said you should bring your own glasses with you. Absurd comment!!! Why not i bring my food with me as well. Whats the point in coming here if need to bring my own glasses and plates with me. It was supposed to be a halal restaurant.. Never going there again given that they offer to be halal but have no respect for muslim beliefs. Very disappointed.!!! read more

Most definitely my favourite restaurant in London. The food is delicious and excellent value for money. This place is always packed and has a traditional vibe to it. Staff is courteous and friendly. Always is a great night out with friends and family. You can bring your own alcohol as they don't sell. No corkage charge for bringing your own booze. Very reasonably priced. I love the Mumtaz platter for £10 which can feed two adults easy. To avoid long wait I usually go early. If you don't fancy the rush or the noise then you can always get a take away. read more

They are unwilling to cater for vegetarians. Typical Persian dishes like koo koo sabzi and fesanjun are not served. Nothing at all palatial about this glorified, overcrowded kebab shop. Staff are ignorant and unhelpful. Avoid and try the Persian restaurant opposite instead. read more

Persian Palace. Made a booking for the restaurant by phone and the waiters obliged by keeping us the places for 28. The restaurant could take the numbers but the facilites are a little crampt. Food was excellent, fresh, more veriety would have been good. Service was much to be desired, no customer relationship, no smile and they asked us to leave in two hours when we arrived, talk about feeling unwanted Lol! read more
