Slice of life. This was definitely the best pizza place I've visited in Birmingham during my time here. I'm very happy with the success of the launch of Otto. When I first heard of eight foot grocery, I wasn't aware of such a good deli in Birmingham. However with Otto in addition in the arsenal, jewellery quarter is a must place for food lovers. The boastings of Otto was the high quality ingredients and it didn't disappoint, see the individual reviews for 4 different pizzas below: Special 1 - pumpkin, pine nuts, crispy bacon, mozzarella drizzled with honey - Not too heavy and not too light. The pizza gives a Hawaiian feel, however there are no juices, but you definitely do taste the sweet glaze. Special 2 - fresh coppa, mozzarella, topped with rocket - ham, with rocket. Even though it was a special, I think it's missing a flavour, perhaps add some olives or maybe some pesto to give it an extra bang. Main 2 - Nduja, Mozzarella and tomato - spicy chilli salami paste scattered all over the pizza. It gives the pizza a nice kick, just how I like it. Main 4 - Mushroom, seared pepper, artichoke, tomato and ricotta - a unique pizza without the mozzarella, therefore it's particularly saucy but the vegetables and ricotta make up for that. I also recommend the tomato and pesto flatbread, just can't go wrong with pesto on some bread. Warm and crispy with the flavour of the pesto complimenting the bread. Service was very good, with regular staff making sure the food was ok and no problems encountered - just how it should be! I can see this place becoming not only an evening hangout but a great lunch area too! With takeouts available, there's just no way you can miss an opportunity to try Otto. Great pizza, great price. The fact that there was a half hour wait for tables on a Wednesday night says it all. This place is popular! Thankfully this pizza is worth the wait, and we were able to wait next door at The 8ft Grocer were we formulated our own starter. When our table was free we were glad we'd stuck around. The pizza is delicious, service is great and the wine is good value. Its super casual, down to earth and just brill: I will most certainly be back. read more

Since moving to Brum last year I haven't come across any really great pizza places. Granted, with such a huge choice of bars, restaurants & cafes on my doorstep I haven't been deprived of a good meal, but sometimes only pizza will do! Step forward JQ favourite The Eight Foot Grocer, who have converted next door into a wood fired pizza restaurant named Otto. Inside the decoration is simple and laid back with lots of exposed brickwork and Birmingham inspired artwork - perfect for a casual pizza place. The all important wood fired pizza oven takes pride of place at the back of the room. I was really pleased to see bottled beer from my favourite Jewellery Quarter brewery, Rock & Roll Brewhouse, on offer alongside their draft beer, spirits & vino The menu is short and sweet with an emphasis on quality ingredients and flavours. There are six pizzas on the menu plus two seasonal specials. On our visit there was a pumpkin, pine nut and honey special on which I was very tempted by. The pizza only takes 90 seconds to cook in 500 degree heat and it comes out piping hot with a beautifully crisp but soft crust - absolutely perfect! I would recommend the nduja pizza, it's absolutely delicious! The prices range from £6 to £9.50 which is pretty good. I think they also do takeaway and I would definitely order this rather than a Dominoes in future - cheaper, more delicious and closer to my flat! The service was a tiny bit slow but to be fair a) it was their opening weekend b) there was a huge group eating at the same time as us and c) I was feeling hangry so time was going slowly! For a few months this place was exactly on my route home from work and I avoided popping in because I knew it would easily become a habit if I just once wandered through the door. But one evening I just had to do it. The welcome was great, the food delicious, and the whole set up just perfect for a JQ hangout. I've been a couple of times, once on my own and once with a friend. Pizza, salad and wine works out pretty good value. I'll be back. read more

Came to Birmingham for a conference at BCU and stayed at the Bloc Hotel; this gem is directly across the street. Holyyyy shit this place was awesome. I had a rosemary garlic flatbread with goat cheese and olives to start, plus an Apersol. I also had one of their specials of the week, a pizza with a white base, peas, some prosciutto I think, etc with their house white wine and it was bliss. Service was FANTASTIC and I only wish I had been able to stay for their brunch on the weekend. read more

nice little pizza place in the Jewellery quarter opposite the bloc hotel. Pizzas range in price, the specials are £8.50 for a good size pizza and they are delicious. Drinks are limited for the non-alcoholic drinks. Service is speedy and friendly. The seating is a little uncomfortable but the food is quick so unlikely to be sitting for long.
