Nothing bothers me more than misused potential- and sadly, that's what this was. There's always a line at this shop- so I never frequent it- but this morning there was a break in the line and do I decided to check it out. My family and I used to travel 3 hours, every Sunday, for these bagels. They were without a doubt the best bagels we've ever tried... but then things started to go down hill. For starters, we would never pay the same price for our orders (that were always the exact same sandwiches)... on some days we'd pay 24, others 22, then on some only 15 dollars. They have a variety of bagel options as well as cream cheese options. These bagels soft on outside and soft in the middle. Little on the salty side. Nor heavy on garlic flavor like most everything bagels out there the cream cheese options are extensive. This is a great little bagel shop just outside the main building of Findlay Market. They have so many choices of regular flavor bagels its unreal plus several very unique flavors like fruity pebbles, flamin hot cheetos, and Grippos bbq cheese nibs. The service is also amazing and the staff is very friendly. On my first visit I tried the Asiago bagel and it was absolutely amazing. The second time I went adventurous and tried the Grippos bbq chees nibs bagel. For those of you not from Cincinnati, Grippos is a local potato chip company that uses a special bbq flavoring and cheese nibs are similar to cheetos. This bagel is very unique and worth a try. Some are the usual suspects, the ones you see at any other bagel shop in any other neighborhood in any other city, but this bagel shop also offers a few unique twists on bagels, bagels that you won't find in most other bagel shops. Creativity is a great thing and a way to separate yourself from the competition, but so is simply good service performed by a smiling face, which OTR Bagel Bar also offers in abundance. As I had said, OTR Bagel Shop has the usual bagels, but they also offer unique flavors like Flaming Hot Cheeto (yes, Flaming Hot Cheeto), Grippos BBQ Cheese Nibs. Fruity Pebbles and more. Their cream cheese spreads can also get rather inventive with offerings like kraut (sorry, does not sound good, at least to me), smoked garlic habanero (now this on the other hand, is right up my alley), blueberry lemon curd and many more that would definitely argue that a bagel and cream cheese has to be anything but pedestrian. OTR Bagel Bar also has sandwiches and stuff, but my go to has always been a bagel with cream cheese. OTR Bagel Shop is the kind of business that would definitely be a great addition to any community and a stellar example of why a national (or International) chain cannot compare to these small mom and pop type businesses. Yes, those huge faceless chains have the purchasing power to come in at a better price, but their main goal is a consistent product. Mom and pop shops like this are more concerned about quality. And it was nice to try it because I probably wouldn't have come for it knowing that I get great bagels on the east coast. The owner Kyle was super nice and gave us a sample of the everything bagel and cinnamon raisin bagel. The bagel tasted good but I felt like something was missing from it.
