To me it's the most cozy coffeehouse in town. It's got an outside patio area with an elder tree providing cool shade over it. The birds above in it's branches chirp and fill the patio with birdsong. It's situated in a residential area too so it's so peaceful. Almost idyllic. You should try out this little gem. read more

I grew up coming here and have always loved it but my resent visits have been awful about a week ago I came in and tried to order a bagel they told me they were understaffed and couldn't do food orders I understand that completely, I asked if they were hiring since they were to understaffed to make food and the girl told me no. Today I came in and the girl with the big septum got my order and I told her it was for here then when she called me name it was wrapped in aluminum foil and no bag for two Roy H specials with no sauce on the side . Not to mention I gave her a 3 dollar tip since she seemed like she didn't wanna be there just for her to do that and have a attitude towards me I would love to come there and to be treated with a smile . Roasted: staying in Memphis for the weekend and found this coffee shop near our air bnb. I was intrigued by the description and look of the coffee shop and was pleasantly surprised with our visit here. It's a large place with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Nothing matches but goes with the theme overall. Staff was very friendly and patient. They gave us mugs for here as they asked if we were staying or going. The mugs are all miss matched as well which goes with the overall theme of the place. The latte was delicious - espresso, milk and temperature all right on. Unroasted: I must admit I was skeptical about this place. Not your typical coffeeshop with mix match decor and goldfish fish tank. Huge space that can accommodate most parties. I loved my latte it tasted amazing. Very friendly staff and answered all my questions with that great southern charm. I Loved the fact they offered it in a mug. All in all great experience. This is the place to come to get your coffee served dripping with attitude from staff members who clearly couldn't care less about simple things like friendliness or customer service. They were surly and rude, then chastised me when I had the audacity to ask about the progress of my order after calling it in AND waiting another 10 minutes after I arrived to find that it still wasn't ready. The food may be good, but I question why I would endure such shabby treatment for a cup of coffee I can just as happily get at Java Cabana or Cafe Eclectic. You know those places that make you feel cooler as soon as you walk in? Well, this is one of them. I don't get intimidated easily but the hipsters sitting alone at the tables with their laptops, glasses, and headphones here immediately gave me the glance over and I kinda got nervous. Not in a bad way...more like a, "please let me stay!" I immediately regretted wearing my J Crew preppy nautical themed dress and gold Tory Burch sandals. I'll have to remember not to wear something so mainstream next time... The atmosphere is nothing like I've experienced in Memphis. It made me a little homesick for LA. It is like a coffee shop you would find near the Venice boardwalk or Hollywood...not Memphis - at all. The blue on the wall is amazing. It gives you an instant calm as well as a creative rush at the same time. And the food? The salmon plate was delish. And let me tell you about their chai tea...hello, lover! There are a few different rooms with tables and it seems like this is a lot of peoples' "office." Since I work from home I am hoping that I'll be allowed back and part of this crowd. I love being in a city for a week, and going to the same place everyday to the point where you start to feel like a regular! You know the staff's faces and they know yours! I'm so excited that we choose Otherlands! This is a huge coffee shop, and cafe. Retro furniture, art on the walls, people having meetings, family's enjoying lunch, it's all here. The coffee was delightful as were the servers/barista's! The menu included a bunch of Vegan Soups and both veggie and non veggie sandwiches and wraps! I loved the back patio for sitting in the sun and working and I also love that they have a huge parking lot behind the building. This is a 5 star place for sure! Haven't had the opportunity to get in here in far too long, and was reminded why I love this place so very much at Yelp's Office Hours this past week. Otherlands is like home. I get lost in time when I come here, and am so comfy on any number of their random couches or seated at a table with a lovely coffee by my side. I also have to say it is one of the only coffee houses in Memphis that actually feels like a coffee house. I need to make Otherlands my "office" during the week more often. Not only does their coffee and baked goods selection rival anything I have at home- but it is so nice to have a change of scenery when you are stuck in your home office most days. Still in love with the floral granny couch in back- and I got a chance to peruse some of that jewelry this time. I was correct- there is nothing better to go with your coffee than a side of jewelry. A hipster coffee shop with lots of ~antique-store~ furniture. The shop gave off a thrifty feeling and appealed to a young audience. There was a lot of space and tables for people to work and talk at. We had a good lunch there on a weekday in 4/07 and enjoyed talking to the friendly staff, including the owner. The otherlands is yet again another good coffee shop in Memphis! The service is great and there is tons of seating all throughout. I guess the parking can be a negative but it's not that bad when you remember that you're in midtown. The iced chai tasted okay and my sister got the mocha freeze which she thought tasted pretty good. She also got a cookie which she thought was just aiite. If you enjoy and prefer a coffee shop that feels almost like an antique shop in that it's sorta cluttered and a little more thrifty, this is definitely the place. read more

Otherlands was one of the first gourmet coffee bars that I can remember popping up in town, and it's still one of the favorites. I've never eaten here, but I have enjoyed a good cup of joe from time to time. The vibe is midtown hippie, a little bohemian. The coffee is pretty standard but everything pales in comparison to Dunkin' Donuts coffee, as far as I'm concerned. I do like the first refill free policy though. I looooove Otherlands. It's definitely my favorite coffee in Memphis. My number one favorite aspect of this place is how spacious it is. It's HUGE. I don't know about you, but when I'm going to coffee shops to study or do some work I always have this latent anxiety that there won't be any room for me to sit and I'll walk in with a backpack, look around for somewhere to sit, LOOK LIKE A FOOL because there isn't, order coffee and act like I just carry around my backpack for fun, and then leave feeling like a fool. Okay don't lie I know you feel that way too. Well here's the good news - I promise you there's always so much space in Otherlands. Not only do they have a huge indoors space consisting of 3-4 rooms, depending on how you parse it, but they also have a really spacious patio with quite a few outdoors tables well. However, I can't always promise you that you'll get an outlet, because they could definitely benefit from a few more power strips or something. Also worth mentioning, the atmosphere is really cozy and also kinda hip / bohemian. It's really cool. The coffee here is also good and well-priced.
