This is the most Memphis coffee shop you could possibly visit. You will feel at home, away from home. Otherlands has a series of spaces that make you feel cozy in every spot. It feels like five places in one. There is a cafe-like setting, an area near windows, two other areas that are "loungey" and then an outdoor patio. There are plugs for your computer. The food is like you made it at home, with a twist. They have classic breakfast and lunch staples with maybe one different ingredient than you would anticipate that somehow works so well. They put the perfect amount of everything on everything. They're kind enough to customize. The coffee is robust and flavorful. The staff matches the atmosphere and I have always left with a smile on my face. read more

Well let's say if you are using this place it most likely is great for an Internet cafe as there were lots of people using it for that and visiting. We ordered two breakfasts that were just marginal at best! The world's best cinnamon toast was more like bread with butter and sugar and very little cinnamon. Plus it was hardly cooked on one side. Grits were fair. My husband ordered a turkey sausage sandwich which had a horrid taste. Good news the coffee was good so was the chi latte. The waffles were Eggo's... I'm sure one generation must have loved them. One last comment my silverware had some sort of dried green food on it. And the place looked like it had not been deep cleaned in a while. The woman who took our order was nice and the atmosphere was upbeat. Otherwise 1 star will not be back. read more

We stopped here for coffee and breakfast before our Graceland tour in Memphis. They have pretty decent coffee, regular flavors like hazelnut, vanilla, and caramel. None of the exotic kinds that you might find somewhere else. They also have the kitchen and have various breakfast options and bakery goods. We had the salmon plate and four different flavored lattes. The lattes were delicious. The bagels on the salmon plate were a little extra toast, but we didn't want to wait for them to be redone. The place itself appears to be an old house converted into a coffee shop. When you walk into the back, the counter for ordering is right there with a big room with lots of seating. There are two adjacent rooms with seating we sat in the one with lots of windows , it gets pretty warm in there as the sun is going overhead. I think the draw of the place is that it's unique and funky which I normal love but we also found that it was a little dirty. Lots of dust and dirt throughout. If I was reading strictly on coffee, it would be a five but with the other components, I'd rated around three. read more

I go to Otherlands when I'm in town visiting family strictly for the vibes and the party, eclectic and frankly bizarre interior space. It's like a large rambling shack built by hippies. And I for one dig the chaos. Especially in a city like Memphis. Coming from Los Angeles a place like this would have valet parking and be overrun by posers and hipsters. In other words, ruined. But in Memphis, it's the right amount of unpretentious and quirky. The food and coffee aren't anything exceptional. You can get better elsewhere but not with the same counter culture ambience. I'm sure the locals probably say I'm overselling that aspect, so be it! A great space to hang out with a book or iPad and zone out for an hour or so. read more

I want to give zero stars but I can't. The baristas (on 1/19/25 around 5:45/6pm) were absolutely rude, unwelcoming and blatantly disrespectful to me and my boyfriend (who had another experience similar to this the last time he went). Sidenote: this is where we had our first date and we haven't been back together since that day. I walk up to the counter, while one barista was making coffee, and thought I was waiting for her to finish making the drink to order. The other barista is standing there and hasn't said anything nor was he making a drink. As I'm standing there, for at least 4 minutes or so, without a hi, welcome, we'll be right with you, another guy (white guy) wakes up to the counter and the other barista takes his order. Just. Like. That. I stop, and look at him, and say "excuse me, sir, we were here first!" He says, quite rudely, "well I thought you were looking at the menu!" I said "no, no I was waiting for my order to be taken! But I was also expecting to be greeted as well but go ahead take his order!" You saw me standing there and looking at the menu or not, standard customer service protocol would be to ask if we needed anything, let us know when you're ready, or anything remotely close to that. But to sit there and balantly ignore me and then take the order of someone who comes up AFTER US?! He didn't apologize or acknowledge what happened. Just took the other guys order. Now, the social justice warrior in me was ready to go off but I decided the last thing I need to cause a scene only to further the narrative that exists of us. I chose not to make it "a thing" but think someone (in management) needs to consider finding more inclusive staff to work at their "inclusive" midtown location. I'm very disappointed in Otherlands for myself and for my boyfriend who quite frankly was more angry and more upset. Do better! read more

A laid back and comfortable place for coffee, tea , pastries,and sandwiches. I didn't try their sandwiches but every 1 of 5 people were ordering sandwiches. I ordered the caramel latte with oatmilk along with a lemon poppyseed muffin which btw is vegan. I also ordered the special which consisted of a vegan aoili and veggie sausage on a bagel. People are sitting down to work on laptops, study text books, have conversations, and I just wanted to try somewhere new and accommodating to vegans. There is plenty outdoor and indoor seating as well as kids friendly. I will return. read more

I don't have pics, but the 2 teenagers with me liked their vanilla lattes. Adults had iced mocha and regular mocha. It was SUPER chocolatey and very, very sweet and dark in color. There was a thick layer of chocolate at the bottom after drinking about half. If you love rich chocolate beverages, this is for you, but not if you prefer a typical mohca. Staff seemed unhappy to be there and not very friendly. Hopefully was just an off-day, but this was our experience with our stop in town. Parking was tight and required backing out into the street when leaving if parking in the small lot at the door. read more

This place has the potential to be a really dope coffee shop. The elements are all there, except the quality of workers. Some of them don't understand that they are the face of such a dope coffee shop. I visited Otherlands to get some work done and ordered a chai tea latte w oat milk, and a turkey sausage egg & cheese, which is supposed to be their special. My latte didn't take too long, but it wasn't good. It looked like the barista just dumped the spice on top of my drink. It was overwhelming, and the drink itself was bad. The sandwich was burnt, but not too bad. I went back and had my drink remade and it still was bad. Wish my experience was better. A great place w bad food & drinks always sucks. read more

Cute and eceletic location in midtown. During an office event, we had several kegs of cider from here that was sooo delicious. As a cider lover, I added this to mental note of places to check out. Otherlands is a fairly laid back coffeeshop with standard fair. I generally prefer coffeeshops that are more intimate, but the spaciousness of Otherlands doesn't afford that experience. Instead, it is easier to feel anonymous that you might feel at your regular, standby coffee shop. One plus of Otherlands (compared with other local coffeeshops) is that the first refill on drip coffee is free and subsequent refills are substantially discounted. read more

The staff is wearing gloves and masks appropriately. There are signs for contact tracing posted at each of the settings that are spaces appropriately for social distancing. Very quiet quaint little spot with great coffee. I'd come here to get away from my home to study for a bit. One of the best coffee shops we have gone to in Memphis! Staff were extremely friendly and quick with our coffee and food orders. They offered seasonal drinks for fall, including the pumpkin pie latte, a s'mores and almond joy flavor combination, etc! Our lattes (vanilla and pumpkin pie) had the perfect amount of sweetness and milk. There were numerous freshly baked items - muffins, banana bread, you name it. They also offer a breakfast and lunch menu. We tried Wesley's spicy grits and the "bagel sandwich thing"! The grits were great, some of the best I have had from any restaurant in the 901! The "secret sauce" on the bagel sandwich was to-die-for, we could have literally just eaten some on a spoon. Love, love LOVE Otherlands and wish there was one in Georgia near my house (I may have to open a shop myself!). This place reminds me so much of a cozy, welcoming place I used to grab coffee and study at during college. Its a very communal space with an open outdoorsy feel and ample seating areas for all - tables with chairs, tables with benches, lounge chairs and coffee tables, couches and side tables. Outdoor patio seating is available in the back too. Wifi is available if you need to work and while its usually always crowded, the noise level isn't disruptive. The menu is extensive with coffee, teas, pastries and hearty dishes. Coffee is served in random mugs or you can bring your own. they offer vegan/vegetarian options. One of my faves are the Grits with turkey and cheese and the Cinnamon Toast - YUMMY!!! I used to come with my mom when she lived in Memphis and now if I'm passing through I still go out of my way to stop by, relax and enjoy nice cup of coffee and a snack. It has a very laid back, beachy feel that makes me feel like I'm on holiday. Parking can be a nightmare depending on the time of day but it never makes me wanna leave so I drive around until I find a spot, lol. With its funky eclectic feel and its ample seating, its a great place to go spend some time studying, reading, or just spending time together, I've always felt really comfortable in this place. There's coffee galore and snacks, & if you're into it there's beer too. There's a huge patio in the back that's lovely to sit and chill on, and a you can smoke back there if you need to. The gift shop, which I went to see specifically, is only open Wednesday-Saturday; if you're going to shop, keep that in mind. Very cool place to go hang out! Not worth your time and money when they can't even toss out expired product over a month old (not the fault of the staff, that's a fault of the owner completely), and you'd think during a global pandemic they'd be a little more concerned about public health. Definitely find another local business to support that isn't going to make the public sick. Don't pay for diarrhea if you don't have to. *there's also yelp reviews going way back calling out expired product so this is not a one time deal, is is a repeat thing. Wouldn't doubt the fridge contents in the back are expired. Also, Karen, do you want to comment on the moldy ice bin? I'm wondering how that's safe for the public as well. Won't get another penny from me. As of two days ago there are yogurts in the front fridge still there that are expired a full month, drinks expired a month, coconut waters expired TWO months, string cheese expired SIX MONTHS! I've also worked for a small business whose owner didn't care, and I place no blame on the staff, it is the responsibility of the owners to be making sure things are in date so they are not a liability. I could spend all day at Otherlands! I have been coming here for years and when I was back in school it was my go to study spot. The coffee is strong and smooth. I like that the menu is versatile. They have baked goods, (including vegan and gluten free) quick pick-me-ups and even a little treat option for your pet. The space has very eclectic furniture and as a regular I notice that they add, repurpose and redecorate fairly frequently. There are multiple rooms to sit in so you can move around to new spots whether you sit at a table, an oversized chair or a couch. You can find reading materials including National Geographic's from years past. The gift shop is neat to look through, but is not always open. The back patio is pleasant in the spring/summer and you can bring your dog if you sit outside. read more
