I was asked to move for a party of four so they could sit outside. I said no. But why even ask? There was a table of four right inside behind me where the party of four ended up sitting. We noticed the Prix Fixe menu outside and the Al fresco diners seemed pleased with their meals so we went in and ordered the 300g sirloin and the 500g ribeye steak Florentine meals. They were 23€ and 28€ respectfully. Both came with a glass of wine, a first course of bruschetta, and roasted potatoes with the steak. This may have been the BEST MEAL I'VE EVER EATEN! I tried to love this place, established in 1500's but I couldn't overlook: 1. No wines or prosecco offered by the glass 2. Wines list was overpriced 3. Osso Buco stated veal on menu but surely seemed like regular ol' beef shanks 4. Chef special Filet steak with Chianti sauce was overcooked and tasted sort of like a canned stew 5. We are on a mission to try different pastas in Italy! Tonight I had the linguine with seafood and Sir flower ordered the penne with sausage and truffle - truffle is popular here that every restaurant has some dishes with truffle and there are truffle stores in this little renaissance city. The dishes were great! Full of flavor and the pasta were fresh and cooked al dente, though my linguine was a bit tough after recook. The flavor was still there. I like his dish better as the flavors profile was deeper and the pasta cooked better. Not sure if it was a illusion that Just feel the flour and pasta are not the same as the ones we had in the US - not to mention sometimes hard to find homemade pasta. Hands down some of the best, freshest grilled seafood I've ever had! Staff were so accommodating when I asked for no oil on the mixed seafood grill dish since too much oil seems to upsets my stomach. This plate was LOADED with crispy, perfectly grilled salmon, sea bass, shrimp, squid, octopus, and whole miniature squid. I was in tastebud heaven! After a bad lunch at Caffe Giotto, we went shopping. A couple of hours later, we were hungry again. We didn't want to make the same mistake so we took longer to pick a place. This restaurant's been open for a couple hundred years which was a good sign. They had a brick pizza oven with someone making pasta by hand. It smelled so good and everyone seemed to really be into their food. There was also a trip advisor recommends sticker on their door. Was this signs of a tourist trap or did it mean good food? We were about to find out... We ordered a soup, pizza, and pasta with our server. Their hot bean soup with veggies was a perfect remedy for cold wet Americans. It was hearty without being heavy. Our pizza was thin and crisp with fresh ingredients. My pasta tasted fresh and was cooked just right, al dente. It was served with a light meat sauce which allowed me to finish. The guy making pizzas posed for our pictures. The servers started joking in Italian that he was quite the movie star. read more

We decided to eat here because they had a great deal on the florentine steak. The food prices were great and we spent less than we anticipated. Saw the lunch specials!!! They have the clam pasta, a drink (even alcoholic) and a salad for 13 euros, but have a cover charge of 1.50. The clam pasta was actually really good, it was kind of pesto like with a lot of vinegar. I got white wine and the salad was huge. I thought it was a great lunch special. It's a touristy area so I feared the worst when we decided to try this restaurant. I'm glad we ate here because our lunch was quite good. I had a pistachio ravioli in cream sauce. Rich and tasty, I highly recommend. My kiddo had a pizza margarita which was a fresh with thin crust and the sauce and cheese where well balanced. My mother ordered the linguini in mushroom sauce. After spending a few days in Italy and eating with not a care in the world, my gluten intolerance finally caught up with me. After needing to pay twice to use public toilets I knew my time in the sun was coming to an end. We actually picked Osteria dell'Agnolo because it was open and I needed a place to sit down and ease my gluten pain after my first and last Nutella crepe. I didn't see a single thing on the menu that was gluten free, but just as I was about to order a side salad, I asked my waitress if there were any gluten free options. She told me I could order and sauce and have it with gluten free penne or spaghetti. I had the penne carbonara, and let me tell you, it was amazing. I could tell my friend also enjoyed her meal because she didn't have any leftovers and didn't say a single word the entire time she was eating. In New Orleans, we always say that if you don't talk during a meal, it's a good sign. While I'm sad my stomach started acting up, I was very happy to have such delicious gluten free options readily available. read more

We were in adjacent wine store which I will review separately - Borgo Vino - and we asked for a recommendation for Bistecca Florentine. We were assured the best was right next door. Candidly, we were a little skeptical but our experience buying wine was so perfect we put our skepticism aside. We couldn't have had a better meal. It was excellent in every way. The Bistecca Florentine was cooked to perfection. The steak was huge - easily feeding the 3 of us. It was quality and flavorful. We had a grest pizza as an appetizer. The sauteed spinach in garlic was plate licking great. The owner and his staff were as gracious, attentive and friendly as could be. This was a perfect meal and i rate this as a top 10 lifetime meal.. I thought prices were very reasonable. We had a great Chianti recommended by tje owner. Had a late dinner and came across this place on the way back to our hotel. Server was eager to get us a table outside but once we sat down that's when the service stopped. The food took a long time to come. I noticed people at the other table the food came for 2 of the folks and the 3rd person had to actually ask when he was getting his as it took so long. I ordered the risotto which was average, my husband had the chicken with cream sauce and that was excellent, it was so tasty. They never brought us any bread but we were sitting next to where they kept it with the oils, so we just helped ourselves. Limited wine menu, but their house white wasn't bad. Verdict - food was good, but service was poor. If you're not in a hurry and willing to wait awhile for your food and okay with having to attract the servers attention then you're set. read more

After chatting with the owner we learned that it was an eating house/Inn as far back as the 12th century! That is old, even for the city of Florence. The wild boar dish that I had was tasty, not transcendent. But from my experiences thus far, the culinary bar is set fairly high in Firenze. The 2 half-kg T-bone medium-rare we received were very rare pieces of meat that were hard to cut and chew, and they didn't seem to be seasoned and tasted very plain. The lamb chops and fish we ordered were bland. We were told by our waiter that the fish was fresh, but it did not taste like it. We also tried the bruschetta as an appetizer; the bread was alright but the chopped tomato pieces were larger than usual. Had high hopes for this restaurant, but failed miserably. Ordered Chef's daily special "Linguine with Lobster and cherry tomatoes". When it came out it was a pile of pasta and a half lobster. Lobster was very over- cooked and couldn't hardly get it out of the shell so I gave up. Then the pasta. I got small bites of lobster shell in every bite - so I just stopped eating it for safety's sake. My mom got the very same thing and hers was filled with shell bits as well. My brother ordered Fettucine with mushrooms- the mushrooms were soggy and about inedible. Service was very slow. The waitstaff was nice; however, spent most of the time talking with one another than taking care of their table. All I can say is wow. We had some iffy dining experiences in Italy, but this place was excellent from the get-go. We were greeted by a friendly staff member immediately. There were no outside seats available when we arrived, so he offered us a complimentary glass of champagne at the inside bar while we waited. As we drank our champagne, another server gave us the wifi code for our phones. While waiting, we were browsing the web and checking photos on my camera when one of the owners started chatting us up. Being an avid photographer, I showed him a few photos from the trip and he was so interested that he asked me to shoot the entire staff in front of the restaurant before leaving. 10 minutes passed before we were seated. When we arrived at our table, the owner had a complimentary plate of roasted vegetables and garlic waiting for us to snack on. I ordered a pizza with sausage and onion, and my girl ordered a gluten free pasta dish. Of course, we both had to have the obligatory glass of Chianti. The food was incredible. We ate, we drank. We were happy. We even moved to a different table that wasn't in the blazing sun about 10 minutes into our lunch without any fuss at all. They were happy to accommodate. After stuffing ourselves and generating quite the mid-day buzz, we received the bill. I was shocked. There was no seating charge (very normal in Italy), no charge for any drinks, and nothing for the appetizer. We ended up buying only the entree's. The bill was less than half of what it could have been. After we paid, we went back inside to talk to the owners. They gave us the history of the place and we were again shocked to find out that this is the oldest restaurant in the world! Opened in 1580! We talked for a few minutes and thanked everyone for the fantastic service then went outside for the photo-op. I can't say enough good things about this experience. I don't take the time to write many reviews, but I was compelled to write for this place. I will make it necessary to recommend Osteria dell'Agnolo to everyone planning a trip to Florence. What a disgrace to the country of Italy and the city of Florence. The only reason I am doing this is because I like to rant. First off, the ambiance is completely the opposite of a nice Italian restaurant with bright lighting and Pop music blasting through the speakers. Also service was non existent as we didn't have a clear waiter/waitress. A women took our order and then disappeared like lady gaga. A ginger waitress was running the whole restaurant and I couldn't help but sympathize for her but that still didn't help my thoughts towards her attitude. I wanted to try something local and authentic, and since the sign and reviews state that it has been open since the 1600's I went there to try boar stew. I was very surprised that somehow they caused the black olives in the stew to be tasteless as well as the rest of the stew. Ahh... gluten free eating in Italy. So this place popped up on the list and we were close by so we stopped in. It was our first day in Florence so we wanted to get a sense of the city so we asked for a table outside and were sat immediately. We asked what options were available gluten free and were surprised that there were 3 or 4 options. We ordered some wine to start and decided to have the insalasta mista. They were both very simple but good. My wife asked why we can't get tomatoes that taste this good at home. My wife had the gluten free fusilli with pomodoro and basil. I ordered the lasagna (I'm not gluten free and my wife like to live vicariously through my eating). Both dishes were delicious and cooked to perfection. The outdoor seating was great and the people watching was awesome. The only thing that brought my rating down a bit was the service. They were really nice but a bit slow. We would have ordered a second bottle of wine but they never came back to our table until we were finished. Good place and definitely worth a try especially if you are avoiding gluten. read more

The food is excellent. Franco is the owner and usually found behind the bar welcoming guests. Another great staff member is Pasquale. We were welcomed in Immediately upon arrival. We sat at the bar for a while and had a bottle of the house red wine. It was very good. Once seated we commented to the owner how good the sun dried tomatoes looked in his window. Without missing a beat he brought us a plate of those sundries tomatoes with special bread that his pizza maker made. It was outbid this world. We were in a party of 4 and two of us had steaks while the other two had pasta. The steaks were tender and delicious. The pasta was homemade, simple and fabulous. This was my favorite place in Firenze. I was having a horrible day, when I just happened to chose this place to try, and it totally changed my day. The service and food was excellent. I was in Florence for a few days last January as part of an interim course through Europe. I had an allergic reaction to something that gave me a bad rash on my arms a few days before (I was very self conscious and didn't want people around me to think it was contagious), was getting over a flu (on antibiotics, so not contagious), was exhausted from walking, had to work on some schoolwork after our class split up after our last excursion... and basically just wanted someplace to be for a few hours to rest, eat and get some things done. It was difficult to find someplace that would allow for me to linger and study with coffee and a meal for several hours, so I got lucky here. The manager, cook and waitresses were wonderful, being very kind, personable, helpful and skilled in their provided services... especially an angel of a waitress named Naima, who spoke wonderful English, which was a fortunate bonus, but was so helpful, helping me with some history info of Italy for the assignment I was working on, when she had time, letting me know of places nearby to go for things I needed. The cook invited me back to learn how to make pizza when things had slowed down, but I still wasn't feeling the most energetic, so I declined, and they all wanted me to come back before I left Firenze, but I couldn't... I did promise to write a good review for them though. I never write reviews, but I hunted this place down once I got back from my trip (since I miss-wrote the info down), because it was just so good, in food/beverages, service and experience. We ate here twice during our stay in Florence. Both times I ordered their hot chocolate which turned out to be home made and is probably the best hot chocolate I've ever had! I'm a big fan hot chocolate and if you are too, than I can tell you that you need to try their hot chocolate! The first night I ordered a calzone pizza which turned out great and full of flavour, my partner had chicken with mushroom sauce which was good too. For desert we tried the tiramisu, also home made, which was really good. Only the service was kind of slow here, we wanted to pay but the waitress kept on walking past us several times for about 15 minutes before we finally got her attention. The second time my partner ordered the Tosta pizza which was on the menu on their website but not on the menu in the restaurant itself. However they remembered the pizza and were more then happy to make it. I ordered grilled chicken with aspergers which was probably the best meal I've had in Florence.
