I ordered 2 filet mignon steak dinners for a birthday celebration, 3 appetizers and spent $138. Got back to the house and we had ribeyes. I called to complain and the manager believed the cook over the paying customer. Filet is lean and without gristle. Our steaks were flat and had quite a bit of gristle. I am an Army guy that over the process of the past four years has been voluntold to plan a family lake day for our unit. We always use the Maxwell MWR Lake area and have a meal and fun day for the families. Oskar's has prepared ( catered ) the food flawlessly four times consecutively! BBQ sandwiches and a side all in a neat styrofoam container with plastic wear. All for a very reasonable price! Super friendly service and great tasting food! Oskar's is always on our list after long days in the sun on the lake. We ordered take out twice this week and have dined in on prior summer trips, and always enjoyed their food. Make sure to get some cheese balls, if dining in (amazing & slightly spicy). The restaurant has been renovated as of last year and always has welcoming, friendly staff. The fromt entrance feels like you're walking into someone's house, with a somewhat rustic, comfortable vibe. Sadly, we heard they are up for sale; hoping someone local keeps the recipes and location alive! Having grown up coming to Lake Martin multiple times a year, Oskar's Cafe is the epitome of great food. Each time I return to the lake, no trip is complete without multiple trips to Oskar's. I have not changed my order for about a decade as the large cheeseburger with a side of corn nuggets continues to invoke nostalgia and a great meal. Visited Oskar's our first night at Lake Martin and were pleasantly surprised! The service was fast and friendly and the portions were huge! Everything we ordered was delicious. We tried Oskar's one night after boating on Lake Martin... It seems to be a favorite for locals so perhaps I'm missing something. I tried their BBQ plate and was just not impressed. Food was served on some really cheap plastic dishes. The BBQ was greasy, and came with a generous amount of gristle. It was low on smokiness too, so it just fell off the scale. Most places that have such a wide variety are mediocre at everything, but Oskar's was really good on everything we had. Barbecue is great. 3 sauces , 2 that I liked but that is my taste. Went in to fill out an application upon a friends request because they needed help. I went in and filled out my application. When I got done the manager "Ronnie" grabbed my paper and asked what my name was and shook my hand. I put on my application that I could work Monday through Saturday. He proceeded to ask me why I couldn't work Saturdays or Sundays I told him I can work Saturdays just not Sundays because I go to church that it's my religious day. He then tells me to call him back when I could work Sundays, walks away, balls my application up and throws it away. The level of unprofessionalism this individual has. I later called to speak with the owner and told him what happened and while he acted like he didn't care that I was denied a job because of my religious beliefs I then hung up. After we got off the phone I was told by other workers that him and the manager Ronnie laughed at the situation as a whole. Wow what great new business owners and managers this place has now! I lead a group of 13 to the Lake Martin area. We contacted Oskar's that morning to let them know I was bringing 13 folks to the restaurant on 7/29/23 (Saturday) and we would be arriving at approximately 12:30 pm for lunch. I was obviously concerned because we were arriving at peak lunch time and Oskar's is a smaller restaurant. When we arrived the parking lot was crowded and I was concerned about being seated. However, when we approached the door a server met us and open the door with a smile and confirmed "are you the group of 13 we're waiting for?" I said "yes we are", and we were lead to the back room and we were seated immediately. On the way through the restaurant to our table I noticed that almost every other table/booth was full. Our table was complete with menus and silverware - our server Melanie was there to announce that she would bring us all water in huge 30 oz plus glasses and then return to take our orders. Please note that it was over 105 degrees outside and we were all riding motorcycles, so large glasses of water with ice were very appreciated. The service was amazing and the food was great - I highly recommend Oskar's for your dinning pleasure in the Lake Martin area. Oskar's Cafe is a true southern hospitality experience. The service is phenomenal and the inside decor is homey. They're known for their BBQ and fish, but there really isn't a bad thing on their menu. I recommend the cheese balls appetizer as well, it's definitely worth it. I chose Oskar's for my Birthday Dinner on January 5th. It was myself, my husband and our two adult daughters. We were seated and received our drinks ,we ordered and it took an hour to receive our food. One of my daughter's ordered chicken fingers fried extra crispy and the other ordered a farmer Ken's chicken sandwich without pickles and chicken fingers fried extra crispy. When we finally got our food the chicken fingers were almost white so we sent them back. My husband and I received our food, I ordered country fried steak, baked potato and cole slaw. The gravy on the steak had already congealed, the cole slaw was very soupy to the point that it actually had a spoon stuck down in it, I wasn't given any salt, pepper or butter for the potato. We couldn't begin eating because we had no silverware. My husband finally asked another waitress for some. When my daughter's food came back out one had some burned chicken and the other had pickles. One of my daughter's ordered her husband a hamburger steak plate to go when we first ordered. The order was never turned in so we had to wait on it after we had already waited to get our food. A lady came over and apologized and offered us a dessert which we declined. She said that she would take some off of our ticket. She took $2 off. When we got in the car my daughter checked her husband's plate and it didn't have any onions and it had fried pickles which wasn't ordered. We were very disappointed especially since it was my birthday dinner. I've had a gastric sleeve so I don't eat much at a time and I ALWAYS take my leftovers home but not tonight because it wasn't worth taking home. read more

There are only a couple of restaurants that I really miss from Alabama now that I have a gazillion dining choices in Dallas, but I must say that Oskar's is certainly one of them. Oskar's is one of those restaurants that I always got excited about visiting to as a kid.They have the best pulled-pork BBQ on the planet (and a perfectly sweet+tangy BBQ sauce), and don't even get me started on their amazing corn nuggets. Oh, the corn nuggets! Oskar's is a Lake Martin staple, and (in my opinion) the best restaurant in the area. It's usually quite crowded on weekends from what I remember, but half of the time we always got take-out and just grubbed on our dock. Score! If you are ever near the Lake Martin/Dadeville area, you have to check out Oskar's. This place is the definition of Alabama BBQ+soul food. read more

Actually, I would give this place a 4.5 stars, but...sigh... that is not an option. Homey sort of place, near the lake, in a vacation house sort of area. They were busy. Service is friendly and attentive as my friends in the rural South are so often blessedly reliable at being. The menu is large, and for the most part sticks to its fish theme except fo the necessary burgers, chicken, and steak. Several things looked good. Dinner salad is a simple affair with chopped lettuce, purple onion and generous tomat. Most of the salad dressings are homemade. Yum! The blue cheese is good. I had the blackened grouper sandwich, which was just about right with added tabasco. The sweet tea was a little thin for me, but still good and regularly delivered. What was so steller here was the dessert selections. They had some chocolate thing that sounded unusually and very good. For now I skipped that for something a little more portable. Homemade "southern fried pies". You know, like you get cold and limp in just about every convenience store. WOW!@!@@@# I had coconut, and everything was right. Perfectly cooked, perfect light and slightly flaky crust and lovely filling. My fried pie really was fantastic. I am definately going to be going back to Oskar's in the future. read more

My husband and I ventured off the beaten path during our road trip through the south. We stayed at Creek Side Lodge in Dadeville, AL and Oskars is conveniently right next door. The locals were extremely open to striking up a conversation, which is just what we love. We had some delicious Cheese Balls to start our meal - AMAZING! The catfish dinner was tasty and the grilled shrimp were scrumptious! It took a while for our wine and beer, due to the rush of guests and under age servers.
