Today, after church, we decided to try a different place to eat. Jake's in Alexander City was the restaurant we decided on. After we were seated and our order was placed-we waited 35 minutes for our food, then the waitress told us they ran out of the food we ordered. I highly recommend somewhere else if you're hungry. read more

Fried GULF Shrimp are as good as any in NOLA !! Basic Family local establishment. Servers are always pleasant and meals arrive quickly. The Fried Green Tomatoes are yummy, fresh and well prepared. Overall a great local favorite. read more

We recently stopped in with a party of 4 just prior to closing, spoke to the hostess/manager and they gladly accommodated us. We all tried the shrimp fettuccine Alfredo which was very good.. the shrimp were done perfectly. The mushroom appetizer was very good as well.. large fresh mushrooms, battered and deep fried. We just finished eating at Jake's and found it to be a great place. The food was really good and the waitress we had was great! We're here in Alex City for an anniversary vacation and stayed at Mistletoe Bough B&B (another great place!). Jake's is only about a mile away so they're very convenient. We've tried several other local restaurants, but none were as good. We plan to come back to Alex City with some friends in a few months. We'll definitely be coming back to Jake's too. read more

Nice restaurant with wide selection of seafood, steaks, burgers, and chicken. They have something for everyone. I'm a business traveler and ordered seafood. The shrimp Alfredo was a little heavy for me but that is pretty typical of the dish. I will try a steak next time. Service was excellent and she even offered a to go drink when I left. read more

Great location in downtown Alexander City, Alabama. The building is decorated tastefully. The owner was friendly and accommodating. The server was friendly but not very efficient. I had to ask twice for ketchup over a 10 minute period. She got orders mixed up, as well. All the food my party had was attractive. I had grilled shrimp, a twice-baked potato and steamed vegetables. The shrimp were cooked well but the vegetables were mush and didn't appear to be fresh. Entrees were reasonably priced, I thought. All in all, a mediocre dining experience....a few simple improvements could make this a place I would come to again. read more

Alexander City does not have much to offer as far as restaurants are concerned. I have eaten at Jake's 3 times, and I will not give them another dollar. They are understaffed and overpriced, and I am pretty sure that the lack of suitable options in this city is the sole thing keeping this place in business. It is certainly not the food or the customer service! Today, I ordered a regular Greek salad and added fried shrimp. The total was just shy of $9. I got a pitiful excuse for a Greek salad - with 2 (!) grape tomatoes and regular black olives (not Kalamata. And I got 3 shrimp. Three. I am not one to send back food and demand justice because I don't want to eat spit (or worse) either. I will take this as a lesson learned and hope that you learn from my mistake, as well. I don't think I've ever felt the need to get on yelp and blast a local business.. But we drove from sylacauga to eat here specifically. Walked in at 5:50 and was informed by some guy that caught us walking in and said we weren't welcome because they were playing bingo and could not accommodate us until 8:30. It looked to be about half full at the time, outside seating available, looked to be an upstairs area as well. I even asked him about going to the bar and he said no.. THEY RENTED THEIR ENTIRE BISINESS OUT FOR BINGO AND TURNING PPL AWAY AT THE DOOR AT 5:50 WHEN THE BUILDING LITERALLY LOOKS ABOUT HALF FULL?? Btw its was only my wife and I. A party of 2. We stopped in for lunch... Southwest egg rolls: They were pretty good, not the best but a good appetizer for sure. But the Largest reason for the 4-star is the price. You get 3 egg rolls, cut in half to make 6 pieces, plus some cheap shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes. For the price, that's $1.50 for half an egg roll. They definitely were not that good. Club Sandwich: It was a club sandwich, there aren't many club sandwiches that make me want to rant and rave about how great they are and this was NOT one of those. But at the same time, it wasn't bad either. I'd say slightly above average club. Lunch special...Beef tips and rice with green beans: This was good, I wanted something appropriate for the area and I felt like I got it in this dish. Price was good for lunch and the meal was solidly delicious, if a tiny bit bland (but hey what do you expect for beef and rice!). read more
