I have been going to Oscars since 1953. When I retired and moved back home, I continued eating at Oscars. It always has good food, good service and fair prices. Went here to eat lunch with family. Waitress took forever to get our tea orders. Waitress seemed annoyed shaking her head as she walked by waiting on others. We asked for a certain fish so the waitress went to ask. She told us they couldn't do it because the kitchen wouldn't give her an answer. Went to leave and asked for management, management acted like they could care less. Didn't ask why we were leaving and no apologies. These people working today had zero customer service. Terrible experience. Heard the food was really good here, wouldn't know. Would never recommend this place. Would give zero stars if I could. read more

Initially Friendly enough, as other reviews have said. But - a couple of issues. First, on the very same menu it shows a Fried Chicken meal on the left for $8.99 and then the same meal on the right under Sunday Specials for $9.29. When I asked the difference, the waiter said no difference at all. So when I tried to order the $8.99 one on the "regular" side of the menu, I was told I had to pay the 20 cents MORE price because it's Sunday and it's a special. ??? Not sure what's so special about having to pay 20 cents more but that seems like a policy worth re-thinking. Secondly, it was just me and one other customer in the place, but after my food was served all 6 or 7 workers all huddled up in a booth in the front window for a nice lengthy chat that was so engrossing that no one bothered to come around to check on the customers. No one even turned their head in my direction. Sat waiting for the check for 15 minutes before having to go up and ask for it. The chicken was fine but not "30 cents extra" fine. Sides were OK. Wouldn't go out of my way to go there again. read more

I visited the restaurant around 4:00 P.M. today (May, 2nd). I was disappointed on the way some of the staff was acting while on the floor. I was made aware of the tension/anxiety between the front of the house and the back (kitchen). I sat at the front counter. I was about four feet from the door that leads into the kitchen and the window where the servers placed the food order tickets, so I was able to witness all the unnecessary drama. I overheard several negative comments. For example, one of the lady servers said in regards to someone working in the back, "She just wants to micromanage because she has nothing better to do". A conversation then took place between two servers about the "micromanager" and how bad she was. In addition, another server said (as a customer was leaving) "he's just crazy". This was said with a very negative tone. All I heard during my time there was deep sighs from the servers, making me feel that their job was a burden. Everyone had sour faces. The staff in the kitchen and the servers were making snide comments to each other. I'm not an expert, but I feel if the back of the house and the front of the house don't like each other, then the only people that surfer are the customers. I don't expect rays of happy sunshine beaming out from everyone, but I felt the behavior made me feel both uncomfortable, unwanted, and wondering what other kinds of problems the restaurant has. When I placed my order, a very young server (who took my order) made me feel stupid because I made a very easy/simple, but (I guess) unusual/crazy request of having a side of cocktail sauce with my hash puppies. "What! You want what?? People eat hash puppies with butter!" I then had two workers ask me how long I have been in the south and if I live "up north". I was born in VA, lived in GA for most of my life, and I now live about 2 miles from Oscar's (off of Crew St behind 10th St.) This experience made me feel I should have stayed in GA. read more

My husband and our kids were traveling home and needed a place to eat. I found this place on Yelp and the reviews were good so we gave it a try. It's well worth the detour off of 95! Our waitress was very sweet, she even gave our kids an ear (they can give you an earful), the food she recommended was above amazing and the price was fair compared to the quality of food they had. This definitely has a small town vibe and you can tell that they get their regulars but love getting newcomers. My husband and I agreed that it would be worth a 2hr drive every now and then. read more
