Bland tough Fish of the day and bland Mac and cheese

TLDR: I would not come here. That staff is really nice trained well, but seem on edge the whole time for some reason. The food is very mediocre. High prices for bland food, especially when there's cheaper and much better meals all along the VB strip. Even though it's all brand new, it looks dated and fake trendy already, with lots of fake plants and a weird open atmosphere. There are lots of great places around here. I'd rather make the longer trip down to waterman's than come here again. For these prices you could go to Catch 31 for a fancier dinner at the same cost.

Prior to visiting from out-of-town, I had found this establishment on yelp. Love the ambiance of the restaurant, great for solo dining, date, and even family. I came for a solo date and they had just rolled out their new menu (4/12/24). I sat in the bar area in a small booth which was perfect. The bartender was my server as well, he was great; the hostess was nice as well, you felt welcomed. I had the crab cake dinner with mashed potatoes, and it was fantastic! Mashed potatoes tasted from scratch and the crab cakes did not have any filler. I had the Watermelon Aqua Fresca (think that's the name lol) and it was good. Highly recommend and will return in the future.

We stepped into Oscar's as a last second change of birthday celebration plans when the Cavalier lost our reservation. It ended up being the best restaurant choice we made in VB in 2022! The great experience started immediately when we pulled up and a very helpful valet guided us in and greeted us warmly. (Seems like a small thing, but it set the tone). When we walked in the manager and hostess were very friendly and immediately seated us in the spacious and well appointed dining room which was beautifully decorated for the holiday season. Our server arrived promptly to introduce herself and get us settled in. The drink menu was clever and abundant. I had the espresso old fashioned, which was made with their rich cold brew coffee. So good that I had two. ( highly recommended) It's worth noting that the service overall was very well choreographed between the multiple large parties and smaller groups that were dining. Bread, water, food, drinks....everything came promptly and professionally. It was the best service I've experienced anywhere since before COVID started. That's the sign of a well managed establishment with employees who like working there. The food was outstanding! The salads were very fresh looking and smelling and the house maple vinaigrette was out of this world. I had the flounder piccata special and my wife had the fresh shrimp. Both dishes were excellent. The portion size was just right, as well. We finished up with a birthday lava cake that our server went out of her way to dress up. Prices were very reasonable and our Oscar's experience greatly exceeded what we likely would have experienced at the Cavalier. I can't say enough good things! This gem is one of the very best in VB and we look forward to returning soon!

    Fettuccine Alfredo

Arrived for an early dinner from a walk on the boardwalk so the place was practically empty. Started with the crab dip which was good but needed more cheese and more crab but had a good taste not overly salty. For dinner we had the bone in veal chop which was a specialty item for the night and a plate of the fettuccine Alfredo. The veal was cooked perfectly at medium rare with a great sauce and mashed potatoes. The fettuccine Alfredo was perfect and creamy, the pasta wasn't chunky like other places.

First Impressions: Fun contemporary clean feel with the tropical vibes. A plant lover will appreciate the decor. Was greeted promptly and seated on a Thursday evening. Clean bathroom and loved the aesthetics. Opted out of the $10 valet and parked at a meter. Food: Highly impressed by the calamari, it was lightly breaded, flash fried, crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. Only wish the offered lemons with it. The bread!!! Oh my, was it perfectly crispy, warm, and delicious. I ordered the 6oz filet mignon medium rare but was more on the rare side. Hubby had the cowboy ribeye topped with crab and that was delicious. Fries tasted like McDonald's and was actually good. Got the three course meal for $49 and also got the chocolate fudge dessert which was so worth getting. Ordered a Froze which was ok. Would definitely come back during the day for a great view and to try other entrees. Service was great and never had to ask for anything as timing was great.

This is located under a nice residential building. Beautiful decor. Nice size bar. Very large dining space. We were being served by Kayla. She was very attentive to us. Bread and butter was amazing! Then we had the lobster bites, the steak bites, fried shrimp, fried calamari, and the seared tuna. I had the cowboy ribeye with mashed potatoes. Food was excellent. Service 5 stars.

I am so glad we decided to try this spot for our Anniversary. This was definitely one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Parking is valet for $10, which is reasonable for the Oceanfront. We were warmly greeted by the valet and the hostess. We decided for patio seating since the weather was perfect. We got to sit right on the corner with a beautiful view of the boardwalk and ocean. We both went for the 3 course meal. I had the calamari as an appetizer, sirloin with mashed potatoes and asparagus , and the chocolate mousse cheesecake. My husband had a Caesar salad, the chicken Parmesan, regular cheesecake. This was the best calamari I have ever had. It was seriously melt in your mouth amazing. My steak was cooked perfectly, and the chocolate mousse cheesecake was so delicious. Also, the chicken Parmesan was amazing. Whoever cooked it, did their thing! For cocktails we had the Sparkling Lavender Lemonade, and the Tropical Mule. The mule was so good! Throughout the dinner, the staffs continued to walk around and fill our water glasses without us asking (which I appreciated). Towards the end our amazing server brought out a complimentary ice cream plate with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate syrup .We appreciated that so much, she was amazing. Overall, the vibes, decor, food, and staff were all so awesome. I told my husband they must have hired all former chickfila employees, because their customer service was top tier! It made this such a great first time experience for us. I highly recommend Oscar's, you will not be disappointed.

Please do not be fooled by the five-star reviews. I am sure the staff's friends are writing them because the service is the worst in Virginia Beach. On our last night in Virginia Beach celebrating our anniversary, we decided to end our final night at Oscar's, and what a major mistake. We had an 8PM reservation. When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly empty. We sat and waited over 30 minutes before someone came to get our drink order, and that was after my partner went to say something. After getting drinks, we waited another 20 minutes for someone to take our food order. While we sat waiting for service, the servers and host sat at the bar and had friends come in and join them. It was the worst decision we ever made to celebrate our last here. There is nothing luxurious or admirable about this place. It is 2024, and they are charging like a gas station. If you pay cash, you pay the cheaper bill, but if you use a card, there is a surcharge. It doesn't make any sense. What nice restaurant does this??!! I have never had this happen and will never be back. There are so many better options on the beach, and this place is not it. Please do not be fooled by the 5-star reviews because that is not the level of service or quality you will receive.

    Ambiance.

Oscar's is a place I've wanted to try since summer. They have a gorgeous porch outside facing the ocean and it looks like a lovely dinner on the beach location. For residents of the building above, it's 10% off the main menu. During Restaurant Week I browsed their available menu and booked it. So glad I did. My fiancee ordered the shrimp risotto from the main menu and I really liked it - came with about five large shrimp tails. I chose from the three-course Restaurant Week Menu and went with caesar salad, fish special which was rockfish excellently prepared with whipped potatoes and asparagus, and the spumoni three-flavor gelato which was supposed to be chocolate, strawberry and pistachio. The gelato was disappointing because it tasted like vanilla and chocolate ice cream with a light chocolate-dip on the outside. Everything else was delicious and the normal menu had a lot of really good seafood and steak options. They also had a few other desserts that sounded amazing and had good italian coffee for after dinner. Our server was very polite and did a great job. They do valet parking for $10 but we self-parked in the garage across the street for $6 every two hours just because they only had one valet working that night and cars were backed up - he was running his tail off working so hard! They also have a bar menu with $8 drinks and food served only at the bar - but all day. No happy hour bc of this. We can't wait to come back and try this place out during warmer weather and sit on the beautiful expansive porch with summer breezes blowing off the water.

Let's begin with the review. The weather couldn't have been more beautiful and from our seats you can see the ocean. Virginia Beach Boardwalk at its best! The service was A+ and our waiter very attentive. Side note: I love when wait staff offer suggestions and descriptions, it certainly helps with indecisiveness most of the time. I have the pleasure of trying the lemon saffron risotto with shrimp, spinach and goat cheese. The risotto rice was nice and tender, the goat cheese added a creaminess and the spinach added a pop of color and taste. I found that the three-course meal they offered what's up the best value as you had a choice of an appetizer your meal and a dessert. I chose the Caesar salad but they'll right in and didn't capture a picture sorry. I will say that it was fresh, no wilt in sight Now the dessert was divine. The cake had a silky mousse which I didn't expect but was delighted about. This kept the taste of chocolate consistent but not overwhelming. I would certainly stop back by of ever at Virginia Beach again.

This restaurant is upscale, and has a dress code - although you can feel comfortable in casual-formal clothing. The interior is decorated boho beach chic and would be great for taking dinner pictures for a celebratory event like graduation, engagement, or get together. They have a wide selection of wines by the glass or bottle. The views of the oceanfront beach are there, just not the best on the beach. Other restaurants have better views of the water and boardwalk. Everything we tried on the menu, the lobster bites, seared tuna appetizer, corn/crab chowder, salmon dinner, and flounder piccata as well as the espresso and vanilla bean ice cream were tasty. It is a little bit pricier than other restaurants on the beach, especially considering the view isn't spectacular. Servers were pleasant, efficient and maybe a tad bit too efficient for my liking, although we were there before dinner rush on a Monday, so there weren't very many customers. You have to pay to valet your car, $10. As a local having dinner at the oceanfront on the off season, this deterred us and we parked the car on a nearby street then walked up. Other places on the beach valet your car for customer's discretionary tip. Glad we tried it, but undecided if we would come back.

Excellent menu, service, ambiance, and fantastic food -- I'd definitely come back if I'm in VB, so I highly recommend Oscar's Oceanside! Iced tea, She-crab soup & fresh bread & butter, pan-seared fresh catch flounder w/ white wine & butter sauce & lump crab mashed potatoes, charred asparagus for dinner and a slice of cheesecake w/ fresh blueberry sauce which I took to go for later -- now is later...

Very delicious but a little overpriced. Staff was great and views were nice. Perfect place to end a night on the beach.

I think this time was even better! We arrived around 230 on a Saturday, lucky for us happy hour started at 3 and we had a 30 minute wait for 6 people. Literally perfect timing because no one was waiting before us and about 10-20 minutes later the waiting area became packed for that 3 o clock happy hour. Side note: happy hour is from 3-7, 7 days a week! The service was phenomenal, the whole staff was so nice and accommodating. While we waited for our table, we were able to order a cocktail from one of the waitresses. We also had a baby with a stroller and they made sure we had plenty of room once we were seated at our table. The food was amazing, I'm a fan of cooked oyster but i decided to be a little spontaneous and try them raw. I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and clean tasting these oysters were. It reminded me of eating sashimi. My wife and father in law had the lobster rolls, they both loved them! My son had the double cheeseburger from the happy hour menu, literally cannot beat this deal. $6 double cheeseburger with fries on the boardwalk is unimaginable lol. I had the Nashville hot chicken, which was good but maybe could've used a little more flavor. But the quality of the sandwich as a whole was spot on. I really don't have any complaints, this was the highlight of our day. My in laws live in Wisconsin but they travel a bunch and they said that these oysters were some of the best they had ever had. They would never see 1$ oysters where they live, so I'm glad we were able to come here and create this memory together. If you've ever debated whether taking the trip to the strip is worth it, it is! Definitely check this place out!

Oceanfront views, open windows, and a coastal, airy vibe make it a genuinely scenic spot. Perfect for sunset dinners or drinks with the water right there. The energy at the bar was lively but not overwhelming. Clam Chowder: Rich, creamy, good balance of clams to potatoes. Classic and comforting. House Salad with Blue Cheese Dressing: Fresh greens, generous portion of blue cheese. Tangy and well-dressed without being soggy. Burger: Flavor was excellent, juicy, well-seasoned. Came out slightly overcooked for my preference, but still delicious. Drinks: Two Old Fashioneds were balanced and strong. Also had a shot of Jim Beam bourbon. This is where the experience fell short. I'm a 20%+ tipper and I sit at bars often, so I understand how busy it gets. But the difference in service was hard to miss. Tatiana (bartender): Greeting took much longer than other guests. I wasn't asked if I was eating or drinking right away, yet I watched her promptly greet others, offer water, take orders, then ask for a card. With me, she asked for a card for the tab immediately. The interaction felt noticeably different from how she treated other patrons. I give grace when I can, but the contrast was clear and can't be ignored. I also noted her manager appeared to be a Black man, which made the disparity feel even more disappointing. Hayden (bar back): Cool and helpful. Stepped in, checked on things, and was genuinely hospitable. I reluctantly left her 15%. Honestly, I didn't want to give her anything at all but a piece of my mind. The good Lord Jesus is working on me, so I left the 15% and walked away. As a regular 20%+ tipper, that drop speaks volumes about how the service felt. Pros: Scenic oceanfront atmosphere, good food with strong flavors, solid cocktails. Hayden's help improved the night. Cons: Inconsistent bar service. The burger was slightly overcooked. Most concerning was feeling singled out by Tatiana's approach compared to other guests. Catch 31 delivers on location and food. The view and the chowder alone are worth a stop. But the service experience at the bar was uneven and left me feeling offended as a paying customer who tips well. I hope management addresses the disparity, because the place has too much potential to be weighed down by that. Would return for the food and view, but hesitant about the bar experience with Tatiana.

After being seated my server greeted and told what the fish of the day was, which was rock fish but I settled on the Cajun chicken pasta. Then to add insult to injury there was a charge to have sauce added but so be it because there was no amount of swishing around my pasta to spread the sauce to even attempt to be satisfied. The sauce creation took longer than it did to get the actual meal and that's what earned the 3 stars because my meal was certainly cold by the time I received the sauce. Ridiculous. The atmosphere is perfect for that more intimate experience for lunch and dinner and the light decor was nice and unique with cozy seating with perfect views of the ocean water . We came during restaurant week this spot was very good from the service the space and food we did their $20 lunch menu which included appetizers and entrees portions were definitely worth the option they had. I did the Caesar salad, a nice light salad surprisingly to start off with the entrée which was their burger and that burger was well seasoned well prepared delicious it's honestly my favorite will be back again for it during the summertime or another dine in plus you can do either the lunch or dinner option anytime during restaurant week the only difference is dinner gives you a dessert and that is $35 per person. The drink was a good choice to pair with our food. my favorite was their orange crush a perfect classic for the beach. Definitely a drink to have in the summer if you want a good crush they got an option with different flavors I did the original orange crush which was light and sweet. Overall a good start to restaurant week and trying something different.

Morgan, our server, was so helpful and kind. The food did not disappoint. The oyster Rockefeller was delicious, the nachos were a great portion and full of flavor, and my teens said the burgers were juicy, flavorful, and the best they've had so far. We didn't get pictures because we were hungry and tired from driving all day, but next time we're back in Virginia we'll definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

Everyone but me was there for the all you can eat crab legs, shrimp and hush puppies. I had visited this place before and had great experience so I am surprised it wasn't so great this week. We got sat and forgotten about basically. After 10 minutes we asked a random waitress who our waitress was and when she was going to take our drink orders? We were promised someone was coming. We waited another 10 minutes and at this point with still no drink orders taken I was ready to go up the street to the Atlantic to eat but everyone wanted the unlimited so we stayed. I got up this time and wen to the bar and explained we had been there 20+ minutes now with no service. Even the table next to us which was a part of three had no drink orders taken yet also. The bartender walked in the back and came back and promised (another promise) we would be taken care of. I want to point out it was about 5pm and they were not crowded yet. After 25 minutes of waiting our waitress finally arrives. And I thought the experience was going to be better but it wasn't. She was clammy, shaking and looked higher than a kite. She took our drink orders and of course took her another 10 minutes to bring us 6 WATERS!!!. We quickly used that opportunity to give our food orders incase she went missing again. Food came out quickly and my friends enjoyed the unlimited and I tried to enjoy my double patty burger. My friends kept asking for things like more napkins, more butter, more old bay and those things never arrived. At this point we were all ready to walk out and not pay but that would be tacky and beneath us When it was time to pay she got everyone's order confused. Which was funny because 5 people ordered the exact same thing, I was the only odd ball who didn't get the unlimited deal. If I return again I don't wan that waitress I just can't do that again. But the food was really good so I am willing to give it another try.
