The King Salmon roll was good with a little low sodium tamari. I would order these again. My dad enjoyed the beef & shrimp combo fried rice though it was very salty. Next time we will ask for no msg or to go easy on the salt. He also liked the shrimp tempura. They didn't include any chopsticks in the to-go order, so you may have to ask for that. Simple and consistent. Osaka is super accessible and always provides a good variety of sushi. Each meal begins with steaming miso soup. I am a big advocate of their Rainbow Roll and yellowtail nigiri. They also have a solid selection of bottles Japanese beers. I have never seen this place slammed with patrons to the point of having to wait to be seated, but there are always people there and a constant flow of pick-up orders. Will continue to be a patron of this spot. read more

Been here twice already and I am just going to say this is not my favorite sushi place. The sushi is ok at best. I do think the service is really good though. Very attentive waiters/waitresses. I am still living the remodel here. It's so open, clean and fresh. The food is excellent! My favorite is the sushi, I try new rolls every visit. Hands down the best spicy tuna roll in all of LAFAYETTE! I know because that's the main roll I get every time I try a new sushi restaurant. Tonight I had to keep it simple and got the chicken hibachi and enjoyed every bite. Their cucumber kimchi is excellent as well. I really liked that tonight. We normally get the steamed or fried dumplings for appetizer but tonight we got the fried calamari. It was tender and fresh. Service here tonight was great and super friendly. I forgot to take photos, but this place does offer a variety of different Asian cuisine like Japanese, Vietnamese, and Korean dishes as well. We all ordered 6 sushi rolls as well as plenty of appetizers. Everything was average. When the bill came out, there was further disappointment. I understand that inflation is going crazy right now, but to itemize every little thing? Being charged for all the little sauce dishes was a major turn off. Multiple itemized $0.75 cents adds up. Eel sauce, spicy Mayo, sauce that was used for the salad were a few of the extra charges. We were a party of 10 so the various little charges for sauce Probably never coming back here again. Gotta say what a disappointment. I have a wheat allergy and at first was impressed that they were able to accommodate me. The waitress asked if I'd like GF soy sauce but it would cost me a dollar for the sauce. No problem I said. They made me a steak that was actually delightful. I ended up ordering a fried rice later in the meal. Asked how much it would be and she said $14. When I got my bill they charged me $3 for gf soy sauce. I asked why and she said they had to use a double portion of gf soy sauce to make the fried rice. My bill ended up being $65 with no alcohol. it was good but my stomach is grumbling a bit so something was off. Anyway they just lost a customer for life by slipping in extra charges without telling. By the way the fried rice was $14.50 plus the $2 extra for GF. I knew this meal would be expensive but to nickel and dime me over a $60 meal is outrageous. Save your money and go somewhere else I know I will. Also I know the price of GF soy sauce, I just think these restaurants get a boner when they think they can get over on someone with allergies. read more

I am writing this review on behalf of my parents that have supported this business for years, but they will no longer be patrons at this establishment for several reasons. First and foremost, the establishment does NOT require masks upon entering. A Louisiana representative-elect died just yesterday from complications of the virus. This virus is serious, and my family will no longer spend their money at a place that doesn't take it seriously. Second, they ordered approximately $40 worth of sushi and the entire order was wrong. The restaurant did nothing to remedy the issue. They are very disappointed. They enjoy supporting small businesses, especially at this time. We felt so bad for the waitress, it looked like she was the only one working on the floor.. but she was really nice and did as much as she can to help serve you - Fried calamari - this was your generic fried calamari, which was pretty decent - Firecracker roll - this was mediocre, I overheard a table saying how great this was.. really it was not that great - Crunchy roll - your generic crunchy roll pretty much - Beef Bibimbob - beef bulgogi on a bed of stir fried veggies served over a bowl of steam rice, topped with a fried egg. Served with a side of sweet and spicy sauce - this came from the Korean menu, and it was delicious! - Garbi - grilled beef short ribs marinated in a blend of Korean spices, served with a small house salad and steam rice - this also came from the Korean menu, the short ribs were perfectly marinated and so delicious! We normally don't come here for sushi, but decided to give some rolls a shot, and it was mediocre, however, this is probably the only place you can get your Korean fix in Lafayette, and its not too shabby! read more

I'm rating this for their Korean menu. Their sushi is ..meh.. The only plus side is they are generous in size but after eating my Togo sushi I was kind of just eating it bc i love to eat. The rice was good but the rolls are over powered by sauces and toppings. I do think their Korean menu is very good. Beef bibimbap, order it. Just order it, mix it and enjoy. It's so good. The bulgogi wasn't the best I've ever had but it was good. Seriously, do try their Korean menu. I've been eating at Osaka since it opened, and the restaurant has had it's ups and downs in quality levels. This is to be expected, as with staff changes the food quality can also change. I have recently become something of a regular as it is a popular spot for our office lunches. I'd approximate that we eat there once or twice monthly. On my last visit they really impressed me. When our sushi arrived it looked much different than usual. Short thick chunks of fish were placed on top of our rolls, rather than the usual long thin pieces. I brought this up to our waitress, who happily offered to take the sushi back. The sushi returned was quite skillfully sliced, and perhaps the thinnest sushi that I've ever seen. It was awesome. I ordered the Arizona Special Combo. It came with 4 pieces Nigiri: tuna, salmon, red snapper, albacore and 4 pieces each of spicy tuna roll and california roll. The Nigiri was oooh, sooo delicious! Fish was excellent quality. The rice was perfectly flavored, but a little dry. I did go toward the end of the night though, around 8p. I will definitely be back because I love their menu selections and the quality of fish. I came back a second time (this time right at 5pm when they opened, so rice was fresh and perfect) and ordered the Chef's Choice House Special Combo. I received the following Nigiri: 2 pieces tuna, 2 pieces red snapper, 1 piece escolar, 1 piece yellow tail, 1 piece albacore, 1 piece octopus, 1 piece eel, 1 piece salmon, and 1 mixed roe. I am not in the habit of giving a lot of 5 star reviews, but when you have the amazing bento box at Osaka, and it is filled with delicious sushi, sliced beef with mushroom sauce, 3-4 pieces of fried zucchini and onions, a good salad, luscious fried rice, and some steamed veggies, I don't know how I can rate it less than 5.. Plus, this plate of food is HUGE!.. and for $9.95 it will satisfy the biggest chowhounds out there, including me. I can't wait to go back to Osaka so I can make a complete pig out of myself again.. Awful service and mediocre food, what we actually received. I'm personally a big fan of the Waitr app, but you can not let waitr orders ruin dine-in service. After ordering our food; it took 20+ minutes to get the appetizers (egg rolls & heart attack). The egg rolls were ok. The heart attack was very bland with no spice what-so-ever. Then after waiting over an hour and seeing multiple waitr drivers come and go, I asked our waitress if the food would be out soon. Keep in mind she never gave us up dates or came to our table to check on us. She went to the back and came out to tell us they hadn't even started our order yet. When I told her to cancel the order she ran off. When she came back she said the lady told her they could have it out in 15-20 minutes if we would wait. Of course I refused. I was hesitant to visit Osaka. It's location has a poor reputation, and it's facade seems a bit lacking. I was surprised to find that Osaka is quite a nice place to be. This dimly lit Japanese restaurant is quite the escape. It offers a place to settle down, a place that seems to hide from the busy city surrounding it's walls. The service was professional and accommodating. The food was excellent, their sushi was fresh and well dressed. I haven't a complaint about this restaurant, and I surely will return for another of their "Veggie Delight" maki rolls. read more
