I've never been here before but decided to give this place a try! Upon entering I found the vibe so cute and cozy. There was a big bar selection and the tables were very well spaced out. The service I had was amazing and the guy who waited on me was always quick to ask if we needed anything. He answered any questions I had regarding the menu. To start off I got a lemon drop martini (not pictured!). Overall it was delicious and tasted like a liquid lemon meringue pie. A little more on the sweet side but overall delicious. I have never made a yelp review before, but my experience was so horrible I had to. - Had a mildly attentive server, but every table had a different waitress and EVERY SINGLE TABLE in the restaurant (there was FOUR) had completely messed up orders. I have eaten here many many times. I have had many great experiences and a few bad ones like food taking over an hour. Food not done correctly other minor things. Generally the good would cover the bad but in this case every time we did have a problem the management was 100% unapologetic and unwilling to make it right. That's why they get 1 star. read more

My husband and I went this past Saturday during a day of shopping and we were pleasantly surprised at this restaurant! We ordered the Orange Blossom roll and Tam's special roll. Both were totally delicious and definitely creative as far as presentation is concerned. We also had the lemon fish nigiri and the fish was marinated well. Our waitress was kind, offered suggestions, and brought refills regularly. Today I had a bowl of mushroom soup which was good and the Samurai roll which presumably is their signature roll, and was great. My friend Goethe teriyaki beef which was a lot more food than the rest of us had and was significantly more expensive. For some reason we always order sushi from this place. Not sure why we haven't branched out to many other places, but the food never disappoints! We started off with the Fried-Squid. That came out in big chunks, and it was really fresh. You could tell it didn't come out of the frozen aisle of a grocery store. Then we had mussels, which I don't think was worth it. There was way two much mustard that took away from the actual mussel flavor. Plus, they only give you two per order. Not worth it. My favorite thing out of the appetizers was the snow crab and salmon salad. It had a good amount of raw salmon packed into it. I could've just eaten that and be completely satisfied. Then for the sushi rolls...we ordered the Tuna Tataky Roll, Spider Roll, Samurai Roll, Koko Roll, and the Rainbow Roll (without rice). The Tuna Tataky Roll was really good. I enjoyed the fresh Tuna on top of the sushi roll. There was a prefect amount of rice in there to counterbalance it. The Rainbow Roll was my favorite out of the five, because it had all my favorite fish inside of one roll. The freshness from the fish is what made it worth the price. The Samurai Roll had way too much rice. It wasn't very tasty. The other two rolls, the Koko and Spider Roll was okay. One of my favorite sushi places in Lafayette. This is ALWAYS the go-to spot for my wife and I when we are thinking sushi. There are tons of places to get good sushi here in town, but Samurai is the most consistent when it comes to great quality and value for your buck. I can honestly say that I have never had an item here that I did not thoroughly enjoy. The wait staff has steadily improved over the time that I have been visiting Samurai. They are courteous and don't treat you like a fool when you have questions (like what in the WORLD is Tataki!?). Plus, they enjoy the food, so they can make great recommendations. Visited Samurai a year ago for lunch and really enjoyed it, so we decided to go back today for lunch while in the area. Today's experience was pretty much the opposite of our last one. We arrived at 1:45, and as soon as we walk in the door, the waitress who spotted us didn't even say hello or welcome us to the restaurant. She instead informed us that the restaurant closes at 2:30, and spoke in a manner that conveyed annoyance with our arrival. We mentioned that since they're closing soon (in 45 minutes) we can eat somewhere else, and she replied with "oh no, I can seat you, but put your order in fast." She and another waitress talked loudly and I could even hear one of them cursing from the kitchen. They were extremely rude and completely unprofessional. The sushi was good, although the quality of the mixed fish in the dynamite roll was extremely questionable, and I didn't eat half of it. The container that the sushi chef got the mix from didn't have a label or date on it, either. The meal was otherwise very good, but initially being rushed by the service staff and feeling like more of an inconvenience than a respected paying customer soured the entire experience for me. read more

He said something to me once that has stuck with me "sushi is expensive so I go out of my way to give you your moneys worth".
