I visited this place years ago and remembered it being amazing. We were down the street at Sky Zone with the wife and kids, but the Sky Zone pizza wasn't cutting it, so we walked over and sat at the bar. It was very busy, but we were immediately attended to and served. I ordered a simple ginger salad, a cocktail, and a special roll, and all three were phenomenal. The ambiance can be a bit loud since it's a small restaurant, but for a Friday night, it wasn't an issue. I'll be back soon when it's a bit more laid back to try the hibachi, but based on this experience, I don't think it will disappoint. read more

Food always good, fresh as usual. We (5 adults plus a 1 year old) sat at hibachi table, seated immediately. Service, not so much. g All excellent until we got our to go order, short (1) roll. When I informed our waiter he said ok but it would take awhile because they very busy. I said no problem, we can wait (one year old full and enjoying herself) could we please order (2) more bar drinks (would be our 2nd) while we wait? When our drinks were brought we were asked to go wait by door to wait for our missing roll because they needed hibachi table (I looked and they were all empty) I suppose our hibachi table was requested? No bags were provided for our leftovers, we had to carefully squeeze through tables and when we got to front there were people waiting to be seated to really no place for us to stand and our roll still not there for pickup (it was added to our bill). So we squeezed through to wait by bar, it appeared to be closed and we had space to stand and wait. My husband went ask for bags for our leftovers and was told roll would be another 5 minutes. Bottom line, roll was on bill so was ordered, why couldn't they make our roll that should have been made much earlier and not put back in order line? Ruined an enjoyable experience. read more

Note: I have not been to this restaurant, only ordered take out so this review is purely on the food and not the location itself. Food is solid, no complaints. Good serving sizes and cooked to order. Very yummy and hits the spot. Handles special orders well. My constructive feedback would be to include more avocado in sushi rolls when they are requested and paid for as extra. Typically there is very little of that ingredient included. Also, the side salads aren't always that fresh. read more

I've been on an Asian kick lately and I have to say, Shinto is my new favorite sushi/hibachi grill place. The first time I dined here I was super jealous that there was no room at the hibachi because they were having a great time over there. I watched from our table as the chefs entertained and wowed their guests. We ordered the baked salmon which was BEYOND delicious. You need their baked salmon in your life. Pronto. Get on that, seriously. We also tried the Oh No You Didn't roll (crab, avocado, shrimp and asparagus) and the Saints roll (spicy crab, shrimp, crawfish, cucumber topped with crab). Holy yumminess Batman. I've since been back for takeout a few times and the Snow Crab and Avocado Salad has made my life. Try it when you're in the mood for something light yet filling and satisfying. Over the last year, this entire establishment has taken an unfortunate turn for the worst. The sushi and hibachi meals are decent but the service is awful. The bathroom and restaurant floors are consistently dirty. From rude waitresses to the attempts by hibachi chefs to squirt us with a pee pee toy (an actual toy in the shape of a boy that pulls down his pants and pees in your face), it's just too much. We will never return to this establishment that we once enjoyed. read more

Generally I've enjoyed this place. Pretty good selection of specialty rolls and have enjoyed most of the ones I've tried. One of the thing traveling has caused me to do is order ahead of time for pick up at a certain time about an hour ahead of arrival. First time doing this here and they told me on the phone no problem but waited till I arrived before putting the order in. I'd normally leave if I would have known however staff informed me it'd be a 5 minute wait or so. No problem, only it was actually 25 minutes later. If someone is calling ahead for orders call 15-20 minutes before arrival and place your order for best results. read more

I originally wanted the Shrimp Avocado but was told to order Hibachi in order for us to sit at the table. First of all the plate that i was served on had a baby roach in the plate that i removed without fussing or causing a scene. My boyfriend was able to order his shrimp fried rice from the kitchen and for a way bigger plate size than me plus was way cheaper. Im just very disappointed and feel like i've been robbed. What can I say other then this place is amazing! We went for lunch and had enough food for dinner. We ordered the lunch hibachi. I got steak, shrimp and chicken (yea I was hungry) and my boyfriend got chicken and salmon. The salmon was cooked to perfection. I would have never thought to order salmon at a hibachi place. We went on a Saturday night for hibachi while visiting the area. Restaurant is a little small and the wait was lengthy. We finally got a table and had to wait a little while longer still but the waiter was great as was the hibachi entertainment. The food was pretty good as well even for my child who is a picky eater. I recently went and ordered some sushi rolls for dine in. There was something very off about the salmon, it had a very off putting smell. I brought this attention to the staff and I was assured it was fresh, but it really seemed like it was spoiled. I don't understand how they couldn't smell that awful fishy odor. NEVER AGAIN!! Ordered take out last night as we are trying to support our local vendors during this difficult economic times. They completely forgot a portion of our order and what they did send was completely unrecognizable. (not sure if it was steak or tuna?....ordered steak) We eat here about once a month and have never had this problem before. Person who took the phone order was not real bright and the person who handled the mistake could have cared less if it was right or not. Note : This review is for sushi alone. Service and Decor were fine. Staff was friendly, location seems newer and clean. Only reason I am giving 2 stars versus 1. Now on to the food. Ordered 3 rolls, (see picture) - New Year, special eel and Tiger eye. All three lacked freshness, had very bland flavors. Dont let the picture fool you, these are the size of your traditional california rolls, but much more costly. Special eel, the eel didnt have any flavor and as can see from picture wasn't prepared properly, rice not consistent and falling apart. New year was OK, however again, lacked any real flavor. The Tiger eye was borderline appalling. White fish was complete rubber and tuna was overcooked to have taste similar to canned. Also, other minor annoyances were TV selection. I was only one sitting at the bar but TV can be seen across room, Bizarre Foods w/ Andrew Zimmerman, sure, lets watch him eat random bugs etc while we eat. Plate sushi was served on was light, school tray plastic and while only cosmetic, using what I assume is another location that is owned, Osaka, labeled chopsticks? Just odd with newer restaurant and advertising another. Overall, doubtful I will be coming back. Lafayette has a TON of other sushi options and if it were not for me being a little pressed for time I would have just gone to Oishi. Not enough here to want me to give them another shot. The sushi was so big was edible until the waiter came spray windex all over the table next to us and then it tasted like a windex roll. Coke tasted like chemicals was sent back. The waitress tasted it said it was bad asked it I wanted something else I got tea it was good.Rooster sauce was nasty spicy Mayo looked like it had been sitting in the cup for a week. I left that alone. Bathrooms were dirty who stacks dishes along the walls? Paint your walls,clean your door,stop putting condiments in a cup and set them out on a table. Kill the flies put some bleach in the drain. To many tables. Don't sweep around people eating. The menu it entirely to long. Do you really need four different people to come to a table less than five minutes apart to try to pick up dishes that still have food in them. And the guy behind the sushi bar really needs to stop trying to make his mustache curl while he's preparing food. I'm going to stop now. I never write reviews, but this experience warranted one. Food was decent, but they take ZERO precautions for social distance safety. I was checked on twice the entire time by my "waitress" And the service was TERRIBLE. I was seated at a hibachi table with 7 others, regardless of the pandemic. When I politely asked to move, I was told I could pick any table other than another hibachi one. Nice, right? WRONG. I picked a table that was only near two others marked not to be sat at for social distancing for my own safety. Regardless of being told that nobody would be sitting there, 15 mins in a family was sat within arms reach of me. By this point, I was already waiting on my food so we stayed. I'm overall disappointed and will not be back. On top of that, the hostess did not have a mask on and told me repeatedly that she was not concerned about the virus. Horrible experience. Hibachi was good. Everything was good. Nothing was great. I find too many employees watching your every move. I saw over 25 employees tripping over each other. When customers had to move about, a constant walk way battle. The quality of the food is impressive. The taste was just short of WOW, but was good. I find the price was a tad bit high. Service is terrible here. We had a party of 6 and they brought all our meals one at a time. The first 2 were done eating and 3 of us were still waiting for food. They missed parts on 3 orders. We went just after the lunch rush so it wouldn't be so bad but it didn't help. The kicker was they charge 18% gratuity for parties of 5 or more. My family is 5 and that is no party!! No way in hell am I paying 18% tip for lousy service. Then I had to argue with the waitress and the manager for 10 minutes to take the gratuity off. He said he would do it this one time only but there won't be a next time. Maybe there is a reason nobody tips there so they have to force people to on the bill. The food was so-so. My husband and I come here all the time. Overall: food is good, our service is usually always good, and the wait is rarely long. Broken down: Hibachi : we love the rice the most. Everything is always seasoned well. Our steaks is always cooked rare the way we like it and the chef is always happy. Sushi: the rice is prepared well., we usually order our basics;the vegetable roll, rainbow roll, Hayley's roll (not fried), and Phil roll. We've never been disappointed with it. My only con: I ordered toro one time, I paid (if I can remember it well) $10 a piece or &10 for 2 nigiri pieces. I know what toro is supposed to taste like, I know how it's supposed to feel.
