Samurai is my go to takeout sushi spot in town. I live nearby, so I pick it up at least once a week. Theres another location across town for those closer to the mall! This is my "sushi roll spot". I can't pass up their rolls. The menu offers a wide variety of rolls and they are ALL delicious. Fun fact - I created the Jules Roll about 7 years ago. Ok. So, this actually pains me to write. When I lived in Youngsville, this was absolutely my favorite sushi restaurant. The wife and I would eat often, every two weeks or so. Hadn't been back in a while because we moved to Breaux Bridge. Well, visited yesterday.... It practically sucked. Literally, it was just horrible. Got Sat a table immediately but waited almost 15 mins before the waitress took our drink order (all waters). She returned with the waters about 5 mins later and took our app order. She never checked on us until 20 mins later when she brought our apps. Told her to give us around 5 mins and then we'd place our food order. Well, another 20 + minutes goes by and no waitress. I had to go find her. She takes our food order and fills our waters. It took 40 minutes to make 2 sushi rolls and a Binto box. 40 MINUTES !! Also, in that time, no waitress. When she finally delivered our food, I asked for a to-go box and the check. 20 minutes later, still waiting for the to-go box and the check. FOOD - Absolutely horrible!! The sushi had zero flavor and fell apart! It you're a sushi lover, we all hate sushi that falls apart. I just put the chopsticks down and ate with a spoon. My oldest made me stop at a gas station because it went straight to her gut!! With that said - I (we) will never again visit this location. Do not eat here!!! We assumed the food would have been cooked--they told us you have to state you want chicken and steak cooked. The food is undercooked & suspect at best. This so called beef was ordered well done & turned out to be rare and not the ribeye described. Our daughter threw up after eating two bites of rubbery chicken. When called they refused to give our money back and insisted we brought the food back literally 10 minutes from picking it up. When I arrived they threatened to call the cops for me recording their horrible response. The so called owner cannot speak for himself a manager had to tell him what to do and say. I'm Asian from San Francisco California and I was very surprised by the high rating of this sushi bar. The ambience is fine, and the service is good. However, the food is highly disappointing. I ordered pork steamed dumplings which came out cold and soggy. In fact, all of my sushi came out very cold. I ordered spicy tuna, which came out as a tiny piece of raw tuna and hot sauce on top--NOT how it's traditionally made. The rice isn't cooked right and excessively goey. Every sushi roll in the entire menu has crab. Crab is usually artificial and often an allergy so that was frustrating for me. So don't come if you can't eat crab--not a lot of options for you. I'd recommend yoka sushi or tsunami instead. Will not come back. read more

Went there for the first time for lunch, and ordered the Sashimi bento box. was highly disappointed. Almost twice the price compared to other sushi locations in the area, and the size of the sashimi was just sad. They were a little larger then a quarter. the thin sliced lemon they used for a garnish was bigger the any of the sashimi. Top it off it took them 30 minutes to prepare our food. Not somewhere to stop for lunch if you are working. Not to mention the service was slow and the waiters kept leaning over our food to turn in orders to the sushi bar, when all they had to do was take one more step. We were the only two at the bar and was sitting in the middle so there was room on both sides of us. read more

Today I also had the LSU and Red Dragon sushi rolls and they are very good too! And then there is the service! Had a bad experience here last night eating with wife. First off one appetizer was served right away and the other was served 15 minutes later. Next wife ordered sushi and I ordered mandarin chicken. The sushi was served in about 10 minutes and other course never arrived. Wife orders Martini with Grey goose and gets hit with a $8 up charge. We ate there the previous week and ordered and had no up charge. Bottom line is food should come out at the same time and you should get the food that you ordered. After an hour and still not have food is in acceptable. Invest the money well as this will be the last of mine you'll ever get. read more

The freshest and largest sushi rolls you will ever eat! I compare their quality of freshness to Benihana. That says a lot. This is the only place we eat sushi and the only place we recommend to friends. Mr. Tam, the owner, is very friendly and the staff is even friendlier. The prices are very affordable. The place on Ambassador is hidden in the back of the shopping center, which is why I think most people don't know about it. read more

We chose based on our location that day, and with little research, wound up here at Samurai. How lucky we were!!! Unbelievable service and food. Spring rolls were unique and we re-ordered after gobbling up the first. Four of us could not agree on which of the many special sushi rolls were the best. My girlfriends and I went out for dinner and we were sadly unimpressed. The restaurant wasn't very busy the night we attended. We were a group of 10 girls looking to have a relaxed night without any children. The service was VERY slow. The server was nice enough but it was obvious that she did not either want to be around our party for whatever reason or didn't like us. It was roughly 15-20 minutes every time we asked for new drinks, condiments, wanted the checks, etc. Two of my friends ordered a meal with avocado as one of the staple ingredients. The dishes were served without the avacado..when they questioned the server, she stated "the chef didn't feel like preparing it ." I'M SORRY, WHAT??!! The chef didn't feel like doing his job?? I couldn't believe she actually told us the truth. All of our jaws dropped. Being the nice group of girls that we are we said it was ok, it wasn't her fault, and we would eat it anyway. After we payed, we wanted to take a group picture outside, we asked the hostess if she would mind snapping a quick picture, she told my friend "No, I have closing duties to do." I nearly hit the ground I was so appalled. Finally, an employee felt bad enough and took a picture for us. I'm so sad they chose to behave this way. We brought 10 patrons to them on a slow night who each spent a decent amount of money and we were treated horribly. I'm not one to make an assumption without weighing all the circumstances, but the service at this place was AWFUL. I recommend the Samurai in Lafayette, I've always been impressed with them and they've always been super sweet. What a shame for the Youngsville location.. I gave the place 2 stars because the food wasn't too bad..but the bad service just outweighs that. read more
