First time trying this restaurant. Came in town and grabbed lunch with an old friend. Pretty good food! First off, the service was great, and the ambiance is very social. There's a very unique design and layout to the restaurant that feels weird at first, but you start to appreciate it as time passes. I wasn't even sure if the backside of the restaurant was open. It's very interesting. You can see in my photos that there's this bamboo divider that separates the front from the back. Quirky! We ordered a ton of sushi, and I had to get my all-time favorite, the yellowtail with jalapeno. I do believe that either the cuts were too thick or there just wasn't enough sauce on them. I'm a sushi lover and this was not my fav... The appetizers were the best part. We got the yellowtail jalapeño and truffle salmon sashimi. Both were so fresh and flavorful! Thick cuts. The crab salad was great too. The sushi was our leash fav part sadly. We tried the best bite (1/5), big easy (3/5) and hung lo (3/5). We really didn't like the fried sushi. If we were to come back, I would get more fresh fish sushi rolls that weren't fried. Service is also very slow. Cool place though. read more

This was my first time here. This is located in downtown BR and it's the ultimate date night spot. You have to take an elevator up to the establishment. The vibes are there along with the lighting. You can also sit outside and see views of the Mississippi. I opted for the Tiny Dragon to start with. The drink was just a bit spicy which is why I ordered it. It was really good! The spice wasn't overbearing. We also had the dumplings which we ate to fast to take a picture of. Those were great. For my entree I had the Black n Gold and the lava roll. My favorite was the Black n Gold. It had the crunchies on top which helped with the texture. It was also spicy with crawfish tails. The lava roll was good as well it had salmon on top . I just wish that had more of the crunchy also. Still good nonetheless less! The service was great. They offer to pack up your leftovers. As someone who has dined on multiple occasions, I sadly will never come back. My boyfriend and I went to the bar for drinks and appetizers and honestly... the service was so bad I thought John Quinonis was going to appear to say this was all a prank. The bartender could NOT be bothered never offered us menus or water, after he took our drink orders and brought out our drinks he never checked on us or anything. The only good thing to come out of our night was the other bartender who rang in our appetizer. Well... I thought he rang it in. After the first bartender closed out our check about thirty minutes later he comes up to us and asks us where our edamame was and I was like umm not sure we haven't gotten it yet. He says we should have let him know! That is ridiculous to tell a guest that it is their fault they don't have their food. Like I said we were already paid out, so my boyfriend went to the host stand to get off the waitlist. When the food arrived there was no apology and no righting that wrong, no refund or dessert brought out. I guess I just am disappointed because Tsunami is usually good, maybe the bartender just didn't like us. Maybe my dissatisfaction comes from me also being a server and knowing I would never dream of doing any of that. read more

If you're looking for fancy sushi and Japanese fusion cuisine, tsunami is your place. This hip little sushi spot in downtown Lafayette is sure to please even a sushi snob. Everything I have tried has been delicious. The sushi is fresh and creative, and appetizers are absolutely amazing. They have a huge selection of sake if you enjoy that but also a good craft beer selection. One of my favorite appetizers that I have pretty much turned into my fave entrée is the eggplant miso with shrimp. This sweet yet savory dish is eggplant cooked to shear perfection! I also appreciate that there are plenty of sushi options that don't contain that snow crab mush, that I cannot seem to escape in Acadiana. Literally every roll that most restaurants in this area make have imitation crab in it. I appreciate that Tsunami has more premium sushi recipes than most restaurants I've tried in the South. Yesterday my wife and I went to Tsunami and when we walked in the door the hostess was on her phone talking to someone. When she finished she totally ignored us and started texting. When she finished texting, she again ignored is and walked to the back of the restaurant without even acknowledging that we were there. It was not busy. OMG!!! I just drove in from Dallas, 8/18/23, and staying in the area. I was hungry for sushi and found Tsunami at the bottom of the list, #19 on the list on Yelp. Well, for me it is #1 downtown Lafayette. I was born and raised here, moved to LA in the early 80's and Dallas in 2008. I've traveled the world for both business and personal and the sashimi and rolls are out of this world. I date at the sushi bar, Nathan was my server and he is an asset to the facility. He was on top of his game, he made sure I had what I needed when I needed it. While you wait take in the hip and modern atmosphere. It is such a cool space! We had the following rolls- Black & Gold - shrimp tempura, cucumber, kani, baked with spicy mayo, crawfish and scallions, Tsunami & tsurai sauces and for dessert- Green Monster - coconut shrimp, snow crab, cream cheese, cucumber, kiwi, avocado, strawberry, coconut flakes & plum sauce. Decent food quality. Unfortunately it is also noisy. If you want decent sushi, try them but it is in no way exceptional.

The sushi was amazing, I definitely recommend the Happy Feet Roll. I also had the spicy tuna roll which is something I get everywhere. It's a bit spicier than the normal selection but also still very good. Even the Miso had a great flavor, not watered down at all. The place was a little chilly inside but the welcome was warm. Our waiter, Evan, was fantastic. He was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and made the experience great. We arrived during their happy hour, they had a special on drinks and some of their rolls. To my surprise, Lafayette actually has good sushi, and Tsunami is the proof! I started off with the calamari for appetizer. I was pretty amazed. This was probably the best calamari I have ever had. There was something different about it. I don't know if it's the sauce, the way they deep fried it, or what... but I had to say hands down it was the best. I don't usually make this claim either. I'll for sure order the calamari again next time I stop by. We sat at the sushi bar where they make the food in front of you. The person we had was really good, friendly, and pretty funny. I think having that kind of service makes all the difference. We ate as he made more sushi and continued conversation. As far as the sushi. It was great. I'm not a sushi expert, but it wasn't buffet quality. Everything we ordered tasted just right. This place is pretty expensive, even for lunch so bring a big wallet. It's sushi though, so what do you expect. Note: If you don't eat fish or sushi, don't bother coming here.
