Great place! Food was awesome, wait staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. I'll be back!

I'm always down to head to tsunami, I haven't been here in a few years and I tell you they don't disappoint. Everything was delicious and just as I remembered. I sat at the sushi bar and my service was top tier, thank you Grant! I can't wait to come through town again and hit up my favorite sushi restaurant. read more

First time trying this restaurant. Came in town and grabbed lunch with an old friend. Pretty good food! First off, the service was great, and the ambiance is very social. There's a very unique design and layout to the restaurant that feels weird at first, but you start to appreciate it as time passes. I wasn't even sure if the backside of the restaurant was open. It's very interesting. You can see in my photos that there's this bamboo divider that separates the front from the back. Quirky! We ordered a ton of sushi, and I had to get my all-time favorite, the yellowtail with jalapeno. I do believe that either the cuts were too thick or there just wasn't enough sauce on them. But they were still pretty good! The eel was delectable and we even ordered extras! Cool spot! Would return! read more

Fantastic sushi, and a gluten-free menu with a lot of choices Honestly, I probably would've walked by this place from the outside because it's not much to look at. However, when you go inside, it's actually quite large and elegant. The servers were very cool and attentive The sushi was great - I got a sampler platter and really enjoyed it Also, the spicy salmon was really spicy - maybe because I'm in Louisiana? Not sure. I'm just in town for the day but would definitely come back because this place was really great read more

Tsunami Sushi Lafayette - Outside - Sushi Bars Near Me - Lafayette, Louisiana

My favorite sushi spot in Lafayette! Whether you're in the mood for an elevated lunch or looking for a night out on the town with a few friends - Tsunami has you covered! (They also have a Baton Rouge location). They have an extra bar area that opens up in the evenings and this place surprises you on the inside vs the outside because it doesn't seem like much until you walk in! Every time I visit my hometown I drive over to Lafayette to get lunch at tsunami because it's just that good. The spice in their sushi just tastes different, in a good way, almost like home!! 10/10 menu - gluten free & vegetarian options are available. 10/10 service. Always. There's something about being in the heart of Cajun country & getting amazing sushi that just hits different!! read more

I'm a sushi lover and this was not my fav... The appetizers were the best part. We got the yellowtail jalapeño and truffle salmon sashimi. Both were so fresh and flavorful! Thick cuts. The crab salad was great too. The sushi was our leash fav part sadly. We tried the best bite (1/5), big easy (3/5) and hung lo (3/5). We really didn't like the fried sushi. If we were to come back, I would get more fresh fish sushi rolls that weren't fried. Service is also very slow. Cool place though. read more

This was my first time here. This is located in downtown BR and it's the ultimate date night spot. You have to take an elevator up to the establishment. The vibes are there along with the lighting. You can also sit outside and see views of the Mississippi. I opted for the Tiny Dragon to start with. The drink was just a bit spicy which is why I ordered it. It was really good! The spice wasn't overbearing. We also had the dumplings which we ate to fast to take a picture of. Those were great. For my entree I had the Black n Gold and the lava roll. My favorite was the Black n Gold. It had the crunchies on top which helped with the texture. It was also spicy with crawfish tails. The lava roll was good as well it had salmon on top . I just wish that had more of the crunchy also. Still good nonetheless less! The service was great. They offer to pack up your leftovers. I will be back to try a few other rolls on the menu. read more

The sushi was phenomenal! We had the Salmon Pesto, Happy Feet, and Musashi. They were some of the best rolls we have ever had and we eat a ton of sushi. Highly recommend this place! read more

Food is always phenomenal here, first and foremost. Today however, the service was extremely slow due to only having one sushi chef on location. We were approached and apologized to for the service, that does not put food on the table. Patrons having to suffer because of staffing issues should never be a thing. read more

Very good FRESH food, had two rolls and ate it all and the hibachi chicken was great, sat at the bar and watched the fishing show they had on, very nice and comfortable... thanks read more

If you're looking for fancy sushi and Japanese fusion cuisine, tsunami is your place. This hip little sushi spot in downtown Lafayette is sure to please even a sushi snob. Everything I have tried has been delicious. The sushi is fresh and creative, and appetizers are absolutely amazing. They have a huge selection of sake if you enjoy that but also a good craft beer selection. One of my favorite appetizers that I have pretty much turned into my fave entrée is the eggplant miso with shrimp. This sweet yet savory dish is eggplant cooked to shear perfection! I also appreciate that there are plenty of sushi options that don't contain that snow crab mush, that I cannot seem to escape in Acadiana. Literally every roll that most restaurants in this area make have imitation crab in it. I appreciate that Tsunami has more premium sushi recipes than most restaurants I've tried in the South. If hip & creative sushi is your thing, check them out! read more

As someone who has dined on multiple occasions, I sadly will never come back. My boyfriend and I went to the bar for drinks and appetizers and honestly... the service was so bad I thought John Quinonis was going to appear to say this was all a prank. The bartender could NOT be bothered never offered us menus or water, after he took our drink orders and brought out our drinks he never checked on us or anything. The only good thing to come out of our night was the other bartender who rang in our appetizer. Well... I thought he rang it in. After the first bartender closed out our check about thirty minutes later he comes up to us and asks us where our edamame was and I was like umm not sure we haven't gotten it yet. He says we should have let him know! That is ridiculous to tell a guest that it is their fault they don't have their food. Like I said we were already paid out, so my boyfriend went to the host stand to get off the waitlist. When the food arrived there was no apology and no righting that wrong, no refund or dessert brought out. I guess I just am disappointed because Tsunami is usually good, maybe the bartender just didn't like us. Maybe my dissatisfaction comes from me also being a server and knowing I would never dream of doing any of that. read more

The quality of food has gone down tremendously. We reserved a table and were sat in the new dingy extension, that smelled crazy and was sticky and depressing. The server was nice, but our orders were wrong twice. I don't see us coming back. read more

The decor and atmosphere are nice with a cool vibe. Love the bar!!! We celebrated my son's birthday here so the surprise Muchi at the end was the topping on the cake!!! Super nice and beautiful presentation with a candle! The drinks are definitely worth coming here! They're pretty to look at plus taste great! The food is good! I particularly enjoyed the shrimp and eggplant appetizer but the service was just average! I do prefer to get drinks when ordered and not have to request repeatedly but then again they were very busy!!! Yes, I recommend this place! read more

I still dream about this sushi -- what an amazing meal and experience! I would recommend this to anyone -- they're imaginative, but not in a way that compromises flavor or quality. They try new things (hello Doritos in sushi!), but also make sure that their product is top notch. Don't sleep on this place - go! read more

Yesterday my wife and I went to Tsunami and when we walked in the door the hostess was on her phone talking to someone. When she finished she totally ignored us and started texting. When she finished texting, she again ignored is and walked to the back of the restaurant without even acknowledging that we were there. It was not busy. This is the second time this has happened and we will not EVER go back. I don't know what happened but this is not the restaurant of years past!!! So sad read more

Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! I can't remember the waiter, but he was soooo sweet. Due to the current coronavirus I had to order to-go. The waiter was very friendly. When I'm here I like to try new rolls. Last time my best friend and I were here I tried one of he's and it was so good, I had to try it, but couldn't remember it. All I could remember was the texture; the Wooster rand I literally went down the entire list until we found the correct one #BigTuna. I suggest this too: Tuna, cream cheese, with a touch of Sriracha. read more

OMG!!! I just drove in from Dallas, 8/18/23, and staying in the area. I was hungry for sushi and found Tsunami at the bottom of the list, #19 on the list on Yelp. Well, for me it is #1 downtown Lafayette. I was born and raised here, moved to LA in the early 80's and Dallas in 2008. I've traveled the world for both business and personal and the sashimi and rolls are out of this world. I date at the sushi bar, Nathan was my server and he is an asset to the facility. He was on top of his game, he made sure I had what I needed when I needed it. I highly recommend Tsunami Sushi if and when your in Lafayette, i called my wife telling her how good the food/service was. I will definitely be back with my wife. Steve read more

The sushi is terrific. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. Sushi masters here are talented and serve well-balanced rolls. Fish quality meets expectations. They have other menu items for folks who do not care for sushi. Prices are respectable. There is a parking lot adjacent to the back of the building. Take caution at night.. would recommend parking with or by a friend. Generally, it's safe but I wouldn't take any chances. read more

Tsunami is in downtown Lafayette and it's popular so expect a wait if you don't have reservations. We didn't but our wait was only about ten minutes. While you wait take in the hip and modern atmosphere. It is such a cool space! We had the following rolls- Black & Gold - shrimp tempura, cucumber, kani, baked with spicy mayo, crawfish and scallions, Tsunami & tsurai sauces and for dessert- Green Monster - coconut shrimp, snow crab, cream cheese, cucumber, kiwi, avocado, strawberry, coconut flakes & plum sauce. Both were great and I'm glad we came here. Service was a little slow but they were busy as heck the night we went. read more

Food was amazing! The eggplant is my favorite. Raydon was the best server. We will be back!

The food and atmosphere are great at Tsunami. I enjoyed the food and the featured drink.

Decent food quality. Unfortunately it is also noisy. If you want decent sushi, try them but it is in no way exceptional.

The sushi was amazing, I definitely recommend the Happy Feet Roll. I also had the spicy tuna roll which is something I get everywhere. It's a bit spicier than the normal selection but also still very good. Even the Miso had a great flavor, not watered down at all. The place was a little chilly inside but the welcome was warm. Our waiter, Evan, was fantastic. He was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and made the experience great. We arrived during their happy hour, they had a special on drinks and some of their rolls. They also honored us as military members, which is something we appreciate and will bring us back again. Thank you, Tsunami for the pleasant anniversary experience read more

To my surprise, Lafayette actually has good sushi, and Tsunami is the proof! I started off with the calamari for appetizer. I was pretty amazed. This was probably the best calamari I have ever had. There was something different about it. I don't know if it's the sauce, the way they deep fried it, or what... but I had to say hands down it was the best. I don't usually make this claim either. I'll for sure order the calamari again next time I stop by. We sat at the sushi bar where they make the food in front of you. The person we had was really good, friendly, and pretty funny. I think having that kind of service makes all the difference. We ate as he made more sushi and continued conversation. As far as the sushi. It was great. I'm not a sushi expert, but it wasn't buffet quality. Everything we ordered tasted just right. This place is pretty expensive, even for lunch so bring a big wallet. It's sushi though, so what do you expect. Note: If you don't eat fish or sushi, don't bother coming here. We had a member in our group who couldn't eat most of the stuff on the menu, hoping there was going to be fried rice on the menu lol read more

Such a wide variety of tastes and flavors Our waiter, Evan, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu.
