Super friendly staff - helped us pick out what their most popular rolls were! Casual restaurant & sushi was super yummy.

The Happy Friday roll

Fantastic! Friends recommended this place and I am so glad I went. A close friend and I were meeting for dinner and we both love sushi, so we decided to try this place. The first thing I noticed about it was that there was a worm, welcoming environment and everybody who worked there seemed like they really wanted to be there. We were quickly seated in a booth and giving menus, and they brought us hot tea. Everything on the extensive menu looked fabulous! It was hard to make a choice. I eventually chose the Happy Friday roll. It was tuna, salmon, and yellow tail, avocado inside, with white tuna on the top with Chef's Special mango sauce. It was phenomenal and served on a cute little boat. My friend had the tricolor sushi assortment and said it was great. Everything was extremely fresh and tasty. This restaurant is close to work so I will definitely be back. Loved this place so much!

Parking. Small location. Friendly staff. Food is delicious. Ordering a bunch of sushi rolls and eating family style is the best.

Safe to say I'm obsessed with this restaurant. The best sushi around, quick service with both to go orders and dine in. Love that dine in is byob as well. Love all of the sushi rolls I've tried, salmon sashimi is super fresh and delicious, tempura apps and salad are always crowd pleasers and love the special rolls I've tried (although there are almost too many to choose from). Definitely would recommend to anyone in the area.

Lunch special 3 rolls

Very friendly staff. The restaurant is very clean. We visited for the lunch special. There are much more options for the lunch special than I'm accustomed. I chose the three roll special. I had a salmon, salmon avocado, and salmon mango. They include both miso soup and a ginger salad, so no need to pick just one. The ginger was top notch. The sushi rolls had a great rice ratio, as I don't like too much rice. The fish was fresh. I had the salmon mango last as my "dessert". My wife had the yellowtail mango and said it was a better "dessert" because the fish tasted sweeter. The staff were very quick during lunch. Quick to take our order and quick to bring the check. They also were constantly clearing every little small item off our table. I don't throw this around often, but it was the kind of service I'd expect to see at a Michelin star restaurant. We'll definitely return. I'll probably get the same thing again, no regrets here. sk tl;dr yum yum for my tum tum

My husband and I came here for a sushi date and to try this place out. It was great! The service was wonderful and attentive. The inside was small but very charming. It was so crazy busy as well with people coming to pick up take out orders and after eating there we know why! The sushi was great and tasted extremely fresh. They had an insane amount of different types of special rolls that are sure to please everyone with different wrapping include soybean paper which I had on a valentine roll and it was one of the best sushi rolls I have ever had. I would definitely recommend this place for a very casual sushi date and would recommend over and over for take out which my husband and I will be getting again soon!

What a great little ramen placed tucked-in Glen Rock!…read more Came on a Sunday afternoon and nobody was in the restaurant! It's not too big --- maybe sit 20-30pp. max. However, it was a comfortable setting. Food-wise, tried several dishes: the takoyaki ($10), the karaage ($9) as well as the Ika Furai ($10) for appetizers, along with the Kokoro Black Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen ($19.50). The appetizers all came out fairly quickly, and were nice and hot. Highlights were definitely the karaage and takoyaki (although I may have a bias to them). I though the Ika Furai (fried calamari) was going to be "pieces of tentacles, etc", it wasn't. It was the same calamari rings you can get anywhere, so I'd pass on that. However, let's talk about that Kokoro Black Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen. The ramen broth was rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. The toppings were great --- and the egg was a nice jammy consistency. The noodles were a good texture, and the soup was served nice and hot. That black garlic provided the right backdrop to such a wonderful rich ramen. Don't even get me started on the charred-tonkatsu. Such a beautiful meaty piece that was sitting on top of that bed of noodles. Totally recommend this. Pro-tip: ask for some spicy-oil on the side, then you get the best of both worlds - black garlic and spice. Overall, I totally recommend this place if you're looking to satisfy that ramen craving. You don't need to go to Paramus, or the Palisades, or even Ridgewood --- just go to this small business, you'll find big flavor!

We ordered a few appetizers and split the spicy miso ramen and it was the perfect amount of food for two people. Also the lychee green tea with lychee in it is outstanding a must have for anyone who loves lychee like I do. The gyoza, spring rolls, and shrimp and vegetable tempura were all great sized appetizers for the price. I enjoyed the spring rolls and shrimp tempura best. The spicy miso ramen was good and I enjoyed how for to go there is a separate container that keeps the noodles and food out of the broth so it doesn't get soggy in the container Service was fantastic when ordering pick up. The inside area was clean with ample seating. The staff were extremely personable and friendly as well. Parking is hit or miss depending on the time you are in the downtown glen rock area.

It's one of those spots you could easily drive right past if you weren't looking for it. Almost looks like a house from the outside, but inside it's a cozy, welcoming vibe. We went during lunch and took advantage of their $12.95 specials--great value. I had the basil fried rice with pork, which had a nice level of spice--flavorful and delicious without being overpowering. It came with a spring roll and a lemon tea, which was perfect--not overly sweet. My wife ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and shrimp--loaded with peppers and onions, super flavorful, and cooked just right. She paired it with a Thai iced tea, which was also on point. Food came out quickly, served hot, and the presentation was clean. Nice little touch with the cucumbers served alongside the fried rice. Definitely a spot we'll be coming back to--next time for dinner. They reopen at 4:30, and I've got my eye on those Bangkok wings. Owner was mad cool too.

My daughter had the beef short rib ramen, and I had the Khao Soi Ramen with short rib. They give so much tender short rib. I didn't even care about the meat because the broth was one of the most delicious curries I've ever had. They checked on spice levels to make sure I'd enjoy (I have an insane love for heat) and gave us their homemade chilli oil and powder on the side. We also had a Thai iced tea, which was perfect because it was balanced rather than sickeningly sweet. Service was friendly and quick. We ate in the store, which has a few tables. They were doing a bustling takeout, but it wasn't noisy and it is nicely decorated and clean. Will be ordering again and again and again. I already ate some of my leftovers. Highly recommend.

Omakase, a Japanese term that translates to "I'll leave it up to the chef," is meant to be a…read moreshowcase of seasonal specialties. Yet in many Japanese restaurants, I've found that no matter when I revisit and order their omakase, the dishes, from appetizers to sushi and sashimi, all remain the same. Thankfully, this was not the case at Shumi. Here, the chefs truly strive to create edible masterpieces. I had the pleasure of enjoying innovative appetizers along with nigiri that simply melted in my mouth. Shumi's omakase was once priced at $150 per person, but in a thoughtful move to accommodate their customers, they adjusted it to $95 per person without compromising the quality of their fish. I will note that the pieces are smaller, but they still deliver the freshest taste. The staff is exceptionally gracious, dedicated to ensuring a wonderful dining experience. They are quick to replenish your tea or fill your glass as soon as it's half empty. I did, however, find the restaurant a bit chilly, and the music was a little too loud, making it difficult to hear the staff as they described each type of fish. For those who followed Master Chef Kunihiko "Ike" Aikasa from the original Shumi in Somerville, he sold that business before opening this new location in Ridgewood, which has been open since 2017. Here, he has partnered with owner David Seo. The aesthetic of the new restaurant remains clean and bright. In a competitive town like Ridgewood, where locals expect restaurants to bring their A-game, Shumi has obviously stood the test of time. I wish them many more years of excellence. Rating scale: Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Cleanliness: 4.5/5 Food: 5/5 Overall: I'd give it 4.5 stars, but I rounded it up to 5 stars.

At Tani, the sushi was equally as impressive as the Chinese food. I haven't had crispy general tso's chicken in so long - the chicken was so lean and well-breaded. I can't stand it when general tso's or sesame chicken is all fatty thigh meat and I was happy to see that it was breast meat. The staff is so nice and added an element of fun to our dinner.
