I had called looking for a diagnosis before they called me. I was told to stay off the leg, but at the same time told to come back and walk into the building to get crutches. I was then handed the crutches by some tech with zero explanation on how to use them. I asked for the PA or doc and the tech did his best to contact them, but he came back down and said nobody was available. Ortho RI ordered PT for me but then sent the PT org older visit notes which did not include the diagnosis of the fracture. PT person showed up at my home and was surprised when I told them. Luckily, I had downloaded the MRI report so she knew what is going on. The PT tech seems to be more of an advocate for me and supplied more info to me than Ortho RI. Ortho RI has a message system on their website but when I asked how to use it, they told me that it is not operational. I'm seriously considering changing my ortho doc. I still haven't seen the doc anyway, because all you get to see is the PA.

Absolutely Frustrating…read more I am beyond disappointed with my experience with Ortho RI. First, we waited six months for an MRI--and yes, I understand insurance played a major role in that delay. But once we finally got everything moving and were ready to get the care that was needed, I expected the doctor's office to actually handle the medical coordination that comes with being a doctor's office. Instead, I received a message telling me to contact our PCP and get the referral myself. At what point did patients become responsible for doing the administrative work that medical offices are supposed to coordinate? We already waited six months. We finally got things in order, and rather than helping move the process forward, the responsibility was simply pushed back onto us. The medical field has gotten completely out of control. Patients are already navigating insurance companies, referrals, appointments, paperwork, delays, and months of waiting while trying to get answers and treatment. The LAST thing we should have to do is chase down every piece of the process ourselves because an office doesn't want to handle it. I don't expect special treatment. I expect competence, communication, and basic patient care. Six months of waiting only to be told, essentially, "You go figure out the referral" is beyond frustrating. Patients deserve better than being treated like an inconvenience when we're simply trying to get the care we were referred for in the first place.

The person who is taking you there and taking you home cannot leave the premises. So you are there for 4-5 hours or longer just waiting. They even make you sign saying you won't leave the premises. It's a big inconvenience and totally unnecessary. When asking why they require this they have no answer. You get 2 calls. One from the doctor after the surgery and another one to pick up the patient.

Her response was basically, "You have hip pain? I'll order an MRI." She asked where my pain was, and when I pointed to the area, she tapped it with her index finger. That was the extent of the physical examination--and even that occurred only after I specifically asked whether she was going to examine me. As a retired Nurse Practitioner, I found this particularly concerning. I actually had to explain to her how to perform an appropriate assessment of hip pain and asked whether she was going to perform certain examination maneuvers used to help identify the source of hip pain. Her response was, "They didn't teach me that in school." I was stunned. A patient should not have to prompt a medical provider to perform a physical examination, and certainly should not have to teach the provider how to assess the condition for which the patient is being seen. Ordering an MRI is not a substitute for a competent history and physical examination. She also never called me with the MRI report. Luckily, I had the report and images and knew what to do. Based on my experience, I had no confidence whatsoever in the quality of the clinical assessment I received and would not recommend this provider.

**** Before going any further, I want to make it very known that my scoring is a medium combined…read moreaverage between both the surgeon (Dr. Hubbard), their physical therapy department and their billing department. If you're considering becoming one of his patients, there are numerous factors to consider as reviewing a specialist/surgeon isn't as easy or cookie-butter as reviewing a coffee shop. In May of 2014, after much searching for a good hand specialist, I stumbled upon RI Hand & Orthopaedic Center and read very positive things regarding Dr. Hubbard. I've suffered from terrible pain in both my hands, wrists and arms for many years and finally was ready to take care of things. I also had a ganglion cyst on my left wrist that appeared around 10 years ago but wasn't actually causing pain and discomfort until recently. The process of diagnosing my problems was fairly quick: the usual route of xrays, seeing a neurologist for a nerve conduction study & EMG, followed by short term physical therapy. Needless to say, physical therapy didn't work and I was off for surgery over at Blackstone Valley Surgicare (see other review for the facility). Dr. Hubbard did a great job in the OR and during the subsequent follow-ups for all three procedures. The receptionist staff as well as the original physical therapist I had seen prior to surgery were absolutely wonderful. Both carpal tunnel releases went extremely well and even at this point, the pain is all but gone. However the cyst removal didn't quite go as well. By December the cyst had grown back and causes excruciating pain. Here's where everything took a nose dive. After surgery I was scheduled for weekly physical therapy sessions. The original PT who had been taking care of me was always prompt, friendly and had me in and out without waiting. Shortly after she went on maternity leave and a new woman took over for a while. Unfortunately the wait time became excessive. Several times she left myself and several other patients in the waiting room for over an hour (even though the PT room is ample in space). On more than one occasion I actually had to leave before she could see me. Later in winter around Christmas, my husband was fired from his job and we temporarily lost insurance. Thankfully we were eligible for coverage through the state and I happily called in February to make a follow up regarding the new cyst and terrible pain. Which is where I had a very unfortunate encounter with the billing department. Unfortunately my prior insurance had left me with a bill around $500 which, back when we had income, was no sweat to pay. But at this point, we were completely broke. When I called to make an appointment the receptionist scheduled me in right away since the pain was intolerable. A few minutes later the billing department called to inform she had cancelled my appointment tentatively unless I paid the bill. I was more than happy to offer a payment plan of weekly payments but to my surprise, she refused me outright. Didn't make a single effort to assist me or work with what I had to offer. Rude, unfriendly and curt, she told me outright no appointments unless I paid in full. And that was that. To be quite honest, I was a little shocked. I've always kept a great record as a patient: paid my deductible and any subsequent bills, kept my appointments, was friendly with the staff and yet when it came to actually having an outstanding bill for the first time, I was immediately treated like the scum of the earth. Would I recommend Dr. Hubbard as a doctor and surgeon? Yes. However as a whole (including his affiliation with Blackstone Surgicare), especially when the billing department is involved, I would consider going elsewhere. Dr. Hubbard is a skilled, amicable surgeon as is his immediate staff. But the woman in billing seriously needs to learn how to treat patients.

The lady at the desk didn't speak English, the place was packed with people, there were kids climbing on furniture, it's just like Walmart lol. I had to wait an hour to be seen even though I had an appointment. When I finally do get seen, Doctor Hubbard seemed nice and professional. As he's looking my hands over we have small talk and my son comes up in conversation. That's when he tells me he beat his son every day to help him stay in line! I thought he was joking and just had a weird sense of humor but no he was serious and really beat his kid every day. Fuck doctor Hubbard. It's been about ten months since I've been there and I got a bill in the mail saying I owe $50 for X-rays and it's going to collections. This is the first time I've seen this bill.

Been using orthoRI for a while now although under different names and different locations. I've…read morenever had a bad experience. Always friendly and fairly punctual for healthcare providers. The express is really handy if you need a quick examination or x-ray after an injury and is so much better than going to an emergency room or even a walk-in with sick people coughing all over you.
