Been using orthoRI for a while now although under different names and different locations. I've never had a bad experience. Always friendly and fairly punctual for healthcare providers. The express is really handy if you need a quick examination or x-ray after an injury and is so much better than going to an emergency room or even a walk-in with sick people coughing all over you. read more

My husband had surgery yesterday. Check in at 10am. We pull up and what a beautiful facility! Modern & clean. In the waiting are for 10 minutes (not bad!) In pre-op for 2.5 hours! Our nurse was nice but a we both agree she was a warm body. She thought after being with us for a little while that he was having a different surgery? Red Flags! She cleaned the wrong area for the surgery. He wasn't shaved until the eleventh hour. As we sat and joked around waiting... we overheard a lot of nurses conversation. I heard multiple swears. My husband made a comment about professionalism. He doesn't much comment about those things. His 'hospital' bracelet had a little piece attached to it that would sent me updates, which helped alerting me when he was out of surgery and could receive visitors. I loved this aspect. Recovery was great. Nurses were informative and helpful. Overall not a terrible experience by any means. read more

My experience with Matthew J. Plante at Ortho Rhode Island was one of the most upsetting medical experiences I've ever had. After a fall at work, I was sent for an MRI which showed two meniscus tears. When I met with Dr. Plante, he repeatedly reassured me--at two separate appointments--that this was a simple, routine arthroscopic procedure. He told me his portion would take only 7-10 minutes, I would leave in an ace bandage, begin physical therapy right away, and be back to work in 4-6 weeks. At no point did he present any alternative surgical options or longer recovery scenarios. The day of surgery, I trusted what I had been told. When I woke up in recovery, I had a full immobilization brace from my ankle to my thigh. I was shocked and immediately asked why, since I had been told I would only have a wrap. The nurse informed me there was "good news and bad news"--the "good news" being that Dr. Plante decided my tear was "repairable" and chose to repair it while I was under anesthesia. The "bad news" was that this meant a recovery time of 4-6 months, not weeks. This was never discussed with me beforehand. I was never given the option to consent to that type of procedure. I went into surgery expecting one thing and woke up having had a completely different surgery performed. I was required to wear a full immobilization brace 24/7 for two months and went through extensive physical therapy. Despite this, I continued to experience severe pain and swelling. Dr. Plante had to aspirate fluid from my knee multiple times due to ongoing discomfort. After three months with no improvement, I insisted on another MRI. That MRI showed the "repair" had completely failed and essentially disintegrated--leaving me with the same tear I originally had. I then had to undergo a second surgery to correct what should have been done the first time. By this point, I had already lost months of wages and endured significant physical and emotional stress for a procedure that not only failed, but that I never agreed to in the first place. Even after the second surgery and more therapy, I never improved. I ultimately left Dr. Plante's care and sought a second opinion. A third MRI showed the tear is still present and now contributing to arthritis. Over a year later, I am still in pain, dealing with limited mobility, and now facing a third surgery with a different doctor to try to fix the damage. I had no prior knee issues before this injury. The lack of transparency, failure to properly inform me of all options, and the decision to perform a different procedure without my knowledge or consent has had long-term consequences on my health, my ability to work, and my quality of life. I would strongly urge anyone considering treatment to ask very detailed questions, seek second opinions, and fully understand all possible outcomes before proceeding. Having two boys that play sports and a plumber husband that constantly has mechanical breakdown, we are frequent flyers here. We often utilize the ortho express for acute wrestling/sports injuries, and the office for chronic issues. My husband has had a few surgeries here as well with Dr. Blood. They are kind, professional and knowledgeable. They are open evenings and Saturdays by appointment or walk in. Typically it's a lot faster than ER and lessens risk of walking out with some type of communicable disease or illness. Parking is free and office is very clean. I highly recommend. read more

Appointment was at 9. Arrived at 8:45. The building is set up almost like a hospital. When you walk in theres a large information desk and they tell you just where you need to go. I checked in and by the time I hobbled to my seat a door was opening and my name was being called. The medical assistant was super nice. Within 90 seconds of being in the exam room I was whisked away for x-rays. Received a dx, work note and follow up appointment and was on my way at 9:28. Loved the MA, PA and x-ray techs-all super friendly. Glad I chose this center for my injury. read more

It opens at 9 M-F and I heard them mention to another patient that they open at NOON on Saturdays if you need to be seen on a weekday! Excellent!! read more

I've been dealing with OrthoRI for 7 months now. Always polite, efficient service. The doctors and the staff could not be kinder.

I had foot surgery July 9th, 2025. Nothing but good things to say about the third floor surgical center: professional atmosphere and clean. The follow up care is a different story. The young man assigned to me was extremely nice, and did his job well. My complaint is about his shoes. They appeared to be running shoes and they were filthy. Not just a little brown on the rubber, but the entire top of his shoes looked like he had been trail running through mud over the weekend. On my next visit, he wore the same filthy shoes. I mentioned this to Dr. Mechrefe's PA. I pointed out the sign on the table which noted that OrthoRI has sanitized the room. He looked at me and stayed silent when I expressed my concerns. I asked him if he hand not noticed (as it was the first thing I did notice when his assistant walked into the room), and he replied that he (the PA) would never notice something like that. Having a sister who was a nurse in various hospitals in RI and Boston for the past 50 years, I asked her about this and she said she and her fellow nurses didn't wear their street shoes to work. They brought their work shoes separately for exactly this reason. Today (September 2nd) was my third visit. I saw a different PA and a different assistant regarding the boot I was to wear. My experience was also just "OK" for a different reason. The PA told me what to expect while in a boot for the next six weeks in a rapid fire manner. I didn't mind because she said I would get paperwork that would repeat the post-op boot instructions. I was brought to the department to get my boot and after putting it on me, the assistant said I was ALL SET. I asked her for the instructions that I was promised, and she said, "Oh, I think I know what you mean - I'll check with someone." She brought back the instructions and said I was ALL SET AGAIN. Mind you, I can only put a small amount of weight on my foot; I cannot walk normally with the boot. I had to ask her for crutches. Her response was, "Don't you have any at home?" I replied that I did not, and she gave me a set and said I was ALL SET FOR THE THIRD TIME. I advised that I had never used crutches before, and I was not sure how to use them while putting partial weight on my foot. I insisted trying them in front of her (and it is indeed very awkward - not like using crutches and keeping your foot lifted off the ground). She did not give me much in the way of instruction. When I finished, I had to ask her to hold the crutches while I got back on my knee scooter. She handed me my crutches which I held in my left hand, and used the braking system with my right and made my way back to the waiting area. It never occurred to her to actually offer assistance; she was fine with me managing it with one free hand and one good foot. I''m glad I didn't fall. Besides unclean footwear worn by most of the staff I encountered, my number one takeaway is that everyone I came in contact with is VERY YOUNG. It is a disadvantage to Ortho RI not having seasoned staff to mentor the younger generation of upcoming medical professionals. Common sense seems to be missing, doesn't it? They don't have the slightest clue that their shoes should be clean, that they should put their phones away while within the vision of patients (at least), or how to help someone beyond what their task is. I shouldn't have to quality control the management and communication processes of what is presumed to be a state-of-the art healthcare facility. I hope Ortho RI sees this review and takes action. It is an embarrassment (or at least it should be). read more

Very great friendly professional care. Always very easy to get an appointment and my concerns were handelde with care and understanding.

Had my appointment at 1:00 and was called into the exam room at 1:00. I had to have a few X-rays and the tech was very pleasant. I got back to the exam room and the PA was in the room within a couple of minutes and was thorough. The MA was very pleasant and helpful. I was in and out with X-rays, diagnosis, treatment plan and follow up appointment in just about 1 hour. Everyone i encountered was very helpful. read more

I just had my cast removed by Dennis at Ortho RI. Dennis answered all my questions and he was very professional and friendly. It was my pleasure to meet him. I was referred to have a splint made and I met Sophie. I cannot say enough about her wonderful disposition and uplifting personality! These two young people are an asset to this company. The physicians and PT staff are knowledgeable, caring and wonderful. Unfortunately, if you cannot get through the hellish telephone system, you'll never be able to find that out! Left 3 messages to change an appointment - never got a return call. Waited on hold for 45 min before I was even able to leave another message. Finally drove to the facility (on my way to another place) and was able to make the appointment in person. Such a shame that an otherwise great establishment cannot get something as simple as a phone system figured out. smh read more

Ortho RI is an amazing state of the art facility located just off 95 near the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick. They provide every type of Orthopedic service under one roof- including but not limited to- exams, Xrays, MRIs, Physical Therapy and Out-Patient Surgery. The entire facility is immaculately clean, very spacious, well organized, and easily accessible to people with all abilities. Parking is more than ample. I've never waited more than 15 minutes for an appointment, and that includes waiting for my doctor or his assistant, Xray, MRI, and Physical Therapy sessions. Every person I've been in contact with has been kind, caring and patient. Scheduling is easy and wait times for appointments are minimal. There are plenty of highly qualified surgeons and professionals here to choose from with all types of specialties to suit your orthopedic needs.
