Been going to this particular orthopedic center, probably too many times too mention. I have had multiple procedures done with Dr Mechefre, Dr Brennan and most recently Dr Alford. The doctors themselves are not only outstanding in their own skills they're even better with their bed side manner and willingness to answer any questions. In addition the PAs they each have from Arlene and Kim and Kelly I apologize I'm sure I'm forgetting names. They truly care about the patients needs. I dont wish surgery on anyone, but you'll never be disappointed here read more

I have had multiple visits to Ortho RI for a number of different orthopedic issues related to osteoarthritis. I find many (not all) of their doctors and therapists to be competent, but they appear to be pushed to see an over abundance of patients in an unreasonable amount of time. Further, when doctors are away, they do not have another doctor to cover for them, and hence, rely solely on PAs...who frequently cannot help. After a recent surgery, I experienced an issue that required being seen by the doc, but he was away for 3 weeks, and the PAs were not able to provide the necessary care. Hence, I was forced to wait out that time until the doctor returned. That is simply not good patient care! Other medical issues were exacerbated during that wait. Further, I had no guidance from the team as to whether I should or should not continue PT...which generated a risk of further injury. Shame on the administrators that do not make sure that proper care is in place, and you, as a practice, "do no harm." Believe me, this is just the tip of the iceberg with regards to what I've dealt with with Ortho RI. read more

I was referred to Ortho RI by the hospital after an ER visit. I went to see them and I was given an X-ray that confirmed what the hospital told me. I was given a prescription for pain and told to come back in 6 weeks. I was not given any information about what was happening to me, nor what to expect during the healing. I contrasted this with my husband's experience with Care NE Orthopedics and I can tell you I will never go back here. First, the patient portal is useless. I have tried twice to send messages and I get a 10 day old out of office messages from a PA I never heard of. I needed a refill on a prescription so I called and spoke to a member of my doctor 's staff who said she would sent the request to the doctor. it's been 3 days and no one has contacted me nor sent the prescription to the doctor. In contrast, Care NE has been super responsive and their portal is extremely easy to use. I would caution anyone to refuse a referral to this place and request a different referral. read more

Went from 5 down to zero stars. I don't appreciate driving an hour for an appointment only to be told the doctor's appointments were canceled for that week. Apparently it was too much trouble to bother calling and letting me in on it. I didn't even get an apology. read more

Had four successful surgeries with OrthoRI, I admit, resulting in four complications--one serious, one never informed it might happen, two took time to heal. On the surface they care, but when an acknowledgement of their screw-ups or a simple apology would have helped alleviate the situation? Nowhere to be found. Only once and that was by the doctor himself two years later when pressed. Their automatic phone service is crap as well. Too complicated, some features still don't work even after informed of the problem. Three receptionists yet no human answers the phone? PT staff, however, are knowledgeable and keep things interesting, despite seemingly not having enough therapists to adequately cover the amount of patients from week to week. They do try their best to schedule post surgical patients. Just goes to show, trusting your life to good doctors isn't always an indication their staff is on the same level. Beware. read more

I was on the phone waiting to speak to someone about a hip injury! They have express (whatever) so I should have able to be seen ! They never answered the phone ! I had to drive there and when I got there they said they had NO APPOINTMENTS! Now obviously if they answered the phone I would have known that ! Then the OFFICE MANAGER TELLS ME THAT SHE HAS NOTHING AVAILABLE AND I WOULD NEED A DOCTOR TO RECOMMEND THE EXRAY!!! They are not following their advertisement because THEY ARE NOT EXPRESS!! This review is primarily regarding the scheduling department at OrthoRI...I have had the worst experience with them on three different occasions, the first one being they scheduled me with the wrong specialist and when I arrived for the initial visit for my scheduled time it took two hours after my scheduled appointment to be seen by anyone and the practice manager was the one to get the correct specialist, and he was only able to see me for a total of ten minutes (because that specialist had been pulled from another patient to see me)...when scheduling my surgery 5 different people called me in an hour span to give me three different times for when to arrive for my surgery...the surgery experience went great and all of the staff for the surgery was amazing (no complaints there)...then when I called to schedule for my initial PT intake I was told the intake would be a 3 hour appointment and it had to be in the morning , so I scheduled the appointment. The PT did few exercises with me (I don't feel like she assessed me at all) and I was out of there in less than a half hour...when scheduling out my PT appointments for the month I repeatedly had to tell them I was only available after 5 pm on Mon/Weds and they kept trying to schedule me for mid day Tuesday/Thurs. it was as if they didn't hear me at all. so far the only positive experience I've had with OrthoRI was the surgery and the surgical team. I am not too sure about how my PT experience will be seeing as to how I was barely assessed and was not with the PT for any longer than a half hour....the scheduling department truly needs to be retrained and have a better management operating system. read more

They dragged my Dad thru the mud.It's been months now, and STILL nothing done for his shoulder pain.Tell him he has an appt for mri at Kent, he goes to Kent, and they tell him, " no you are here for infectious disease appt, not Mri.All the appts they set up for him were botched.He's in excruciating pain, being sent for Mri, after Mri and not getting the Mri.One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. When he did get an Mri done, it was supposed to be a cat-scan with aspiration, done at Kent.Kent sends him all the way to South county hospital, where they did an UNORDERED MRI.Dad's next appt, i went with him, and displayed my disgust, and all i got for an answer from his P.A was, " yea, i am really sorry, i was on vacation last week, i don't know why that happened.She ensures us, the correct appt will be scheduled, so she tells us my dad needs ANOTHER Mri with contrast this time.He goes for THAT appt, and no contrast was ordered. This place should be investigated, or just plain shut down.All they do is drain people's insurance, make people who are suffering in agonizing pain, go to appt's that were scheduled for 1 specific thing, and when they get there, they are told, " no, u are not here for that", and they are getting something else done which was NOT discussed at their prior appts.My dad has been given the run around.He has the bad shoulder, 2 bad legs, and he's a 76 yr old vet, who has been with Ortho r.i since September 2025 til now Dec 2025, and NOTHING has actually been done to treat his shoulder.This place is a DISGRACE!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I hadn't been to this place since 2021 when I was seeing Dr. LLado for my knee. I stopped going because he told me on the phone I had three options for my knee pain. One of them being surgery/knee replacement. Yet, when I went to the office to discuss this course of action, he contradicted himself and said that wasn't an option. Fast forward to now. For some reason, I made the mistake of contacting Ortho RI 2 wks after injuring my toe. I went to a walk-in the day after it happened, not Ortho Express. The walk-in gave me a disc w/my x-rays stating I had a fracture. I wanted to make sure that was the case/get a 2nd opinion. As someone else said, it takes a while to get someone on the phone. I made an appt. and they sent emails prior to the appt. to fill out forms. No forms were attached. Called them and was told just come in 15 mins early to fill out the forms. I got there filled out a novel's worth of paperwork. Guess what, waste of time. I went into the exam room and the "nurse" was reading what they had in the system from 2021, not what I just filled out. She asked about the toe. Told her how it was injured and I went to a walk-in where they took x-rays. First she said, if I went to Ortho Express they can't always go into the system to get the images so they'd have to take new x-rays. I said I didn't go there and I have the disc the walk-in gave me. Now the excuse changes to sometimes they have trouble reading the x-rays from other places so they might have to take new ones. I said no, use the disc I just gave you. She leaves and comes right back w/a new excuse that the dr wants new x-rays b/c he has to see how the toe is healing since it's been 2 wks since I injured the toe. The whole time she kept changing the excuses, she'd ask is that ok if we take new x-rays? She wasn't going to stop until she got me to say yes. I finally said yes, but what was ridiculous was they had to take an x-ray of my ankle as well. I injured my toe, what does my ankle have to do w/it? Another girl comes to get me to have the x-rays. I'm hobbling behind her as she's speed walking like she's in a race. At no time slowing down to give me a chance to catch up. She got me setup for the x-rays. When I tell you it was so obvious that the x-rays were just an excuse to pad the Blue Cross bill, you wouldn't believe how rushed she was. She'd tell me how to position my foot and walk away. Never once checking to make sure my foot was where it should be. Go back to the exam room. Dr walks in and was talking like he'd had a few red bulls. Nice guy, but said a bunch of stuff that I couldn't care less about, and the kicker was he said he didn't realize I'd injured myself 2 wks ago and there wasn't anything he could do for me at this point unless the toe was out of alignment and needed surgery. Hmm, the "nurse" said he wanted new x-rays to see how I'm healing since it's been 2 wks. He pulls up one x-ray which was the top view of my foot. He points to a spot on the right side of my toe and said I'm already growing new bone where the fracture is. Funny, it's on the opposite side and above from where I have the lump on the bottom of my foot where the walk-in said is where they saw the fracture. He leaves and another "nurse" comes in. I asked her for a copy of my x-rays. She said I could scan a QR code and it would take me to the website. I said, no I want a disc. After a while, they brought one to me. I went to checkout, a.k.a. pay my copay. I was told they didn't see a copay. Whenever a dr's office tells me that, I know they're going to send me a big bill. In this case a visit copay and whatever the x-ray copay is going to be. Moral of this novel? Don't bother going here. It's just an assembly line where you wind up getting fleeced. read more

Recently needed surgery on my knee. Doctor seemed nice enough but after multiple visits over a month and a half I only met him once for around 10 minutes. His staff are terrible. I was in excruciating pain, they would give me nothing for it. I had to suffer in agony for a month and a half. When I did call the office asking for something, even just a brace, something for pain the person who answered said "what do you want us to do?". When they finally gave me prescriptions to prepare for surgery, the drugstore had no record of them calling it in. I had to keep calling the office to get the prescriptions. When I finally got someone, their accuse was "oops, someone forgot to hit submit". This happened multiple times so seemed to be standard operating procedure for them. When I went in to get my MRI results, the front desk told me my appointment was canceled and turned me away, but the doctors office said it was not canceled the front desk did not know what they where doing. On the day of the surgery I was called and told to come in an hour and 15 minutes early as they had a cancellation. I showed up 15 minutes early to check in. I then sat there for over an hour when a receptionist walked by and said "they would be calling us soon". 15 minutes after the original appointment I told them I was leaving. They had a problem with another surgery and since the doctor does them one right after the other he was seriously behind. 2 patients went in for the same doctor while I was waiting and there where still more waiting. So the doctor was seriously behind, trying to play catch up and under pressure. This is NOT the kind of situation where I want a doctor in that kind of shape going anywhere near me with a knife. I was seeing 3 different doctors there for 3 different issues. I canceled all future appointments and will never step foot in any of thief offices ever again. Doctors fantastic; customer service on the other hand has to be the worst in the state. Getting through on the phone is next to impossible unless you're lucky enough to have an extension number. They make you feel like they are not there to help but to deflect your call. Very disappointed; it shouldn't take weeks to get an answer or at least a return call. The doctor visit itself was excellent and he was patient, explained everything and answered all questions. After that all inquiries were handled by staff and aides, not a bad thing unless they actually don't help. Ask a question and they never talk to the doctor, they just give you scripted answers. I realize there are a lot of patients needing help and are in pain, but waiting months and months for closure to a debilitating injury seems ridiculous. Waited so long to get a cyst on the spine drained , the fluid was calcified and only a minute amount of fluid was there to remove. Shots forpain that didn't work; in the meantime a month or 2 between different procedures. One PA called to schedule some blood work and when asked if fasting was necessary, he didn't know. He'll ask the doctor and call back. UGH! We have since gone to bridgham and women's hospital in Boston where we have regained confidence in the medical field read more

Ortho RI has an impressive team of providers. The orthopedic surgeons are technically excellent. Follow-up is with physician assistants who are also paired with surgeons and knowledgeable about the specifics of your case. Pre-op instructions are from nurse navigators. Ortho RI takes a team approach to your care. Their facilities in Warwick and Wakefield are modern, clean if a bit antiseptic/industrial. Communication is not a strength of the practice. Patients are inundated with texts that refer you to a website with a sequence of patient tasks to be completed. Their multiple URLs do not communicate with one another, nor can patients text a provider with questions through any of their websites. EPIC, despite its many deficiencies, is better in this regard. I had a question about a medication I was prescribed after my surgery that was not discussed the day before surgery by the nurse navigator. I did not get a call back from any provider. Twelve days after my surgery, I thought I was having a complication caused by that medication. I got a call back from a PA that I had never talked to before who advised me to stop the medication for 2-3 days. I should have been informed of the rationale for putting me on this medication before surgery. Still an overall good experience. Phone calls to Ortho RI are an adventure - not great for such a high-class operation. read more

Worst place ever! Money comes first and patient care is definitely last. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. The staff is miserable and treat patients very poorly! They should be shut down. They tried billing for services not provided, I found this out because they tried to charge me a co-pay after the visit saying they looked at both hands - The left one was included in the post op but the other was not. The doctor did not even look at my right hand. They removed the charge but did bill my insurance company and they paid for the right. Had Left Carpal Tunnel release surgery the day before Thanksgiving, 11/24/2021. It was obvious that no one wanted to be there that day including the doctor (Dr. Walsh). After a few months I was still getting pins and needles in my hand, my grip was weak and there was a bump near the incision and it was still very tender to the touch. I went for a follow-up, expressed my concerns and was completely brushed off. I had to go to another doctor (not OrthoRI) and had to have the EMG test redone to find I still had carpal tunnel. Had carpal tunnel revision surgery on 12/20/22. After the surgery, I found out that the initial surgery was not done correctly so there was a lot of scar tissue causing me to still have carpal tunnel. If you want to be billed for services not provided and surgery not completed then this is the place for you! read more

I was referred to Ortho RI Express when my son sustained a football injury. The system was down so I waited until the practice opened to call and schedule an appointment. I was instructed to present immediately as a walk-in. I left work, picked my son up and went to the Warwick location only to learn the MD would not be in until 11:30, the practice had no available appointments and nothing could be done to remedy the misinformation provided by the call center. The office staff were kind, compassionate and very apologetic. Unfortunately they seemed conditioned to compensating for the incompetence in the call center. read more

The physicians and their assistants are top notch IF you can get a hold of them. Their phone system and reponse is pathetic. I had a telehealth appointment at 10:30 on 2/23. It never happened. I called yesterday afternoon and after several options and extended wait time left a message. Never called back. It is now 1:30 on the 24th and I just went through the same process. Will see if this call is returned. I would highly recommend the physicians in this process. However I would recommend you getting their personal cell number so you are able to contact them after the fact. read more

Thanksgiving, 2022, my middle finger on left hand locked up. I called Ortho RI they said they were open Saturday 12 to 5pm. I went---the admitting process was fast, I was first patient, got right in to see the doctor. I was out of there at 12:45pm, my finger was open, splintered. What ever you do get copies from the physical therapist. They made major mistakes in my chart. I had extensive shoulder surgery and the physical therapist wrote in the first couple reports or so i had picked up my 31 pound dog. Dr. Mechrefe recently performed surgery to alleviate a bunion and straighten a toe. The results were great and recovery time was within the time frame he suggested. I first met with his PA Arlene Kavanagh; very professional, thorough and gave me the impression I would be in good hands. The doctor was very nice, answered all my questions, and I had no problems or complaints after the procedure. Post-op appointments have been with PA Thomas Cao; also very professional and a good listener. I had a full knee replacement 3 years ago by Dr. David Burns of the practice and was very pleased with the results which is why I chose to have the foot surgery with the same practice. The Warwick Campus is convenient and quite nice. read more

I'm still fighting with them to fill out my tdi paperwork. I have a bulged disc in my back pressing into my nerves in my spinal cord. I literally can't walk for more than a half an hour without the pain starting to set in. I climb cell towers for a living so that makes it impossible to do my job until the issue is resolved. I'm not sure what the big deal is about filling out my paper work so I can use my tdi benefits that I pay into until I am fixed and can get back to work. Trying to figure out how to pay for my bills and my 2 children is beyond stressful right now. I shouldn't have to fight with Dr's to fill out paperwork that I need. I could see if they thought I was lying to get free money but they literally have medical imaging showing it. all I needed was them to fill out my papers to my condition that they can see in my medical imaging. my credit and all my finances are getting screwed up from this and there is nothing I can do to fix it until I am physically able to work again or until I can figure out someone that will take 5 min to fill my forms out. I can't even pay all of my copays to their own office because of this. absolutely insane to me that they think this is okay to do to people read more

Avoid this place for Orthopedic Care, the staff is rude and when your doctor orders an MRI for you their staff doesn't book after 2 weeks so you have to keep calling every day until they do and once you get an appointment for the test you call to reschedule your follow-up with your doctor because they had to cancel because they never booked your MRI and they try and give you an appointment 2 weeks out. That is unacceptable. Time to find a new doctor after 2 failed surgeries in 18 months. This place is a joke. read more

I was referred to Orthori by my PCP because of problems with my left knee. From my first visit until my last visit at Orthori, they were exceptional. I was very impressed with all my visits/treatments, from X-rays, MRI'S, Arthroscopic knee surgery, and PT. Everything was scheduled at the Warwick location which is very easy to get there and plenty of parking. My surgeon was Dr Matthew Plante and NP Julie Walden. Most of my visits were with Julie Walden, someone who everyone would love. She was very kind, compassionate, humorous, and caring. A true professional who always answered all of my questions and concerns. Before my surgery Dr Plante explained what he was going to do and what the results were going to be; he was spot on. Was rudely welcomed by a woman named Robin at front desk of the express. I was just sent there from a different ortho RI To get a cast For my broken hand. Before Even filling out the New patient paperwork she was on the phone with billing arguing the information that I was told and told her which was that I would be able to get billed at a later date for my visit today. Instead of claiming that there was some type of system for this she asked me how much money I had on hand that I could pay. She continued to haggle a price like she made commission and see how much I could come up with Rather than allowing the billing department to do their job . After getting off the phone with billing she looked over to the woman working with her and asked her what my name was after getting it wrong twice she then called me by my actual name and told me that they would have to refuse me because I am unable to pay. My point of the story is that someone should not work in the medical field if they're worried about money over patient care. I've never been refused to help in my life and it was and extremely upsetting experience. The woman proceeded to raise her voice over the price of money and repeat herself embarrassing me in front of the Other patients that were waiting. Long story short if you work in the medical field you should try to do your best to help your patients rather thanBeing condescending and talking to them like that nothing because they don't have insurance. My foot surgeon and his NP/PA were excellent and the procedure and healing has gone well. However, his assistant and office scheduling availability have been terrible. Multiple calls & chasing for prescription refills following my surgery without return calls... an act of god to get a return call. Then, upon requesting to reschedule my follow-up appointment (a month in advance and due to unforeseen travel), I was told that the next availability is two months out. Total bullshit. EDIT: I have since called the Smithfield office and received much better and friendlier service... AND an appointment within five business days of the original follow-up. Tip: don't deal with the Warwick office if you don't have to... call Smithfield and they'll take care of you. read more

I have been to this group for two different injuries and was seen by Dr. Mechrefe on both instances. He is one of the best and most caring doctors I have been to. He listened to me and took the time to answer all of my questions and explain everything! He recently (two weeks ago) repaired my knee (Chondromalaisia and torn meniscus as well as arthritis) and I am on the road to recovery! He was super nice and continues to be there if I have any questions or concerns! I would recommend Dr. Mechrefe personally to anyone needing orthopedic help. I have been going to West Bay for over 25 years - first as a patient of Dr. Vaughn Gooding; and more recently as a patient of Dr. Thomas Barrett for knee issues resulting in complete replacement surgery in March 2019. I have found the staff of West Bay to be extremely pleasant from the front desk receptionists, to the various aides, technicians, and of course the doctors who all take the time to understand what the issue is. I have even used the Ortho RI Express for after-hours care when the regular office is closed I will admit it does get busy there - esp. Fridays when they are only open 1/2 day. And yes sometimes you need to wait to check in or check out - but I have been to other orthopedic practices in RI and MD and all in all prefer Orth-RI West Bay to them all. read more
