I had a negative experience at Orozco's. Got to work in Emeryville and found one front tire was completely flat. A co-worker recommended Orozco's nearby. I used some Fix-A-Flat to get me to the shop, where one of the owners told me the sidewall was damaged and the tire could not be repaired. He suggested I swap it for a $45 used tire. Knowing that my other front tire was getting close to end of life, I asked what the cost would be for two, and whether he had two similar to my newer rear tires. He told me had used tires in good condition and the cost would be $90 for two. He told me he had Bridgestones (although not the same model as my rear tires), and that tires purchased with him included lifetime balancing and rotation and a warranty. That sounded like a great deal, so I agreed to two. The conversation was very, very rushed, I had little time to ask questions, and he told me to hurry up and make up my mind because he had a line. When he presented me w/the bill it was for several hundred $. I told him I thought the cost was $90. Turned out he'd quoted me for used, but then installed new. Not sure whether he was trying to bait-and-switch or I just misunderstood because he spoke so fast and the conversation was so limited. He was irritated that I did not want the new tires after he's already installed them. He had his workers take off the new tires, put back my undamaged old one, and install one of his used tires. He also told me he would only accept cash for a used tire (which I didn't have on me), although he was happy to take a credit card for the higher-priced new tires he'd initially installed. I told him I'd have to find someplace to get cash, and asked how late he'd be open, since I needed to get back to work, and then pick up my child after work. He told me I was wasting his time. Later, when I left work, I looked at the tires to see what had been done. The tire his shop installed was a Continental. It didn't match my other 3 tires at all, but it did at least get me back on the road. However, I then noticed the metal clips on all of my rims were missing, except for one, and in the place where one of the clips had been, there was a hunk of metal broken off. When I went back to the shop with $45 in cash later (total pain to have to run and find an ATM), I asked them about the broken part of the rim and the missing clips. They became very angry and defensive, told me that part had been broken a long time ago, and that the clips were weights that some shops used. The owner said, "We fix your tire, and now you accuse us of breaking your rim? Come on, give me a break!" I had not accused him, only asked, because I had never noticed that piece of metal broken like that before. It might have been old damage that I never noticed, but the angry attitude of the guys in the shop really bothered me. They also never explained why they removed the clips/weights. The owner then began speaking to his brother in Spanish about me, saying how I'd been in earlier and wasted his time not being able to make up my mind. I speak Spanish and understood everything he said; it was extremely offensive. In short, if you are someone who knows your way around tires, knows what you want and need, and doesn't need any explaining or hand-holding, these guys are super-fast and a used tire will only run you $45. They were super-busy on the Monday when I was there. If you are someone who needs a mechanic to take a little time explaining things to you clearly, this is not the shop. The guy was friendly at first, but became really rude and high-pressured and obnoxious when I didn't do what he wanted or make a decision fast enough, and became downright mean when I asked about the missing clips/weights and the damage to the rim. I was thankful to be able to drive my car home that night, but I wouldn't go back to this shop if I could avoid it. Also, in the middle of Covid-19, nobody in the shop was wearing a mask. The guys were working and talking very close to one another with no protection. read more
