Hands-down, the best breakfast dish I have had in my entire life. We came here on a Sunday morning for brunch. We had a reservation. It was not that crowded. We started with coffee and mimosas. Just a note they do have bottomless mimosas for $19. For my meal I had the chicken and biscuits. The biscuits were made from scratch. The chicken was juicy and delectable. It was glazed with a pepper jelly sauce. The waitress says it was made in house and the peppers were grown on property. The breakfast potatoes were so crisp and delicious. Our meal also came with a side of fruit, which was a nice finish to the meal. The staff was so friendly, and the owner even came over to say hello. We were allowed to walk around the property after breakfast to view the historic grounds. The plantation was built in 1790. The new owners have done an amazing job restoring it to its original beauty. read more

Food was delicious and the portions were large. Prices were reasonable. The only problem was that our server insisted on foisting her extreme right wing politics on us, saying the country needs more guns to get rid of the homeless,etc. we didn't engage in that conversation then she started with conspiracy theories and while we waited for our check, she went around showing all the customers pictures of her grandchild. An extra star for the Easter lunch we had there. It would not have been my first choice but I'm glad I gave Ormond another shot. The service, like last time, was very friendly and efficient. Onto the food! The Crab Cakes Benedict was absolutely delicious. Initially when it came to the table both eggs were overdone. I mentioned this to our server and she had it taken care of immediately. Not a few moments later I had fresh eggs ready to ooze all over and get mixed into the plate. I tried the Veal Grillades and Grits -- not my favorite. A bit sweet for me. But my husband thoroughly enjoyed it so as far as I'm concerned that dish was a success as well. If you go, order a Mississippi Breeze. While the Peach Bellini was pretty good, if you're into sweet alcohol, the Mississippi Breeze will have you melting off of your chair. Yum! This time I can say I would return. read more

We found this hidden gem on Yelp and were surprised that is a running Bed & Breakfast and event space. The wait staff was friendly and welcomed us into their charming restaurant, which reminds me of a French -Colonial home with its curio cabinets and China display. The menu hails daily specials, decadent deserts, and a wide drink variety. I wish I would have dressed for the occasion, but the food did not disappoint. What a hidden gem! read more

My review is for the restaurant only as I've never been to an event here or stayed at the bed and breakfast end. I've been to lunch here several times as it's close to work and a good place to meet with vendors and clients. Just make sure you want a long meeting....more on that to come. Ormond Plantation has a few small dining rooms on the lower floor of the plantation that were obviously meant for other uses back in it's day. They do a great job of fancying the place up with white table cloths and fancy décor. The food is really good. The crab and brie dip as an appetizer is rich and big enough to serve 2-3 people. I've had 3-4 of the entrees and they've all been good to even great. The Les Miles salad (time for a name change I believe) is really good with plenty of seared tuna and avocado with a "creole" vinaigrette. The pork loin dish is phenomenal and served with a sweet potato hash. The issue with this place is the service and time. The waitress disappears a lot and it's happened on more than one visit. The food takes forever and a day to come out as well. It's tasty but you will wait. It's as if they are preparing the food like it's 1820 all over again. It could be the whole southern charm thing and not being in a hurry but on a Tuesday I can't take a 2 hour lunch when I have to get back to work. read more

Recently had two sets of family members visit me. Took both sets for lunch. Had also had a brunch party there about a month before the visits. The food was delicious! Dined here on Friday night with friends! We all loved every bite; Stuffed Redfish, Veal Anthony, Pecan Smoked Pork Rack, and requested Chicken Parmesan which was all simply delicious. Dessert was Praline cheesecake. So good in fact, we returned for Brunch - Chicken and Waffles, sweet and tangy with pecans, Crab and Brie Omelet, Special Omelet, the Creamiest Grits and old time Pain Perdu. Went for lunch with wife and another couple. Service and food was excellent. Restaurant in a renovated old plantation house originally dated to 1790. Comfortable seating and good for conversation. Creole eggplant, crab cakes were great. The creole turtle soup and fried green tomatoes were excellent. We are natives and think this place is an undiscovered gem. Really, I'm the first person to review the restaurant? The pressure..... First, the map next to this review doesn't show the right location for the restaurant. It's located about 1/4 east (down river) from the intersection of Ormand and River Rd. I lhave noticed that some (not all) mapping programs send you to the wrong place when you enter a River Rd address. I observed new roadside/level signs (Louisiana weeds) in front of the plantation in my daily trips past the plantation advertising a daily lunch serving. They have spread from there into Destrehan. My understanding was that they historically had a B&B/Banquet type of business. Friday afternoon, out of work early, I thought I would give it a try. There were cars in the parking lot which is encouraging. I have never been in the plantation and was expecting a casual, country kitchen type of environment. It is more like a casual formal dining room type of setting. Tables were formally set, nice silverwear, linen napkins, the works. At first glance, a little stuffy. I sat in what was probably a front sitting room in the 1700's. Neat room, traditional architecture from that period. The place is at over 200 years old, so you can understand that the floors are not level. Still, it is annoying when the tables rock. There has to be a way to fix that. Dress is casual. It would be nice if they had outdoor seating available. Service is good. After noting the formal table setting and the more involved menu, I was anticipating a long wait for the food. My mistake, it came promptly. You can get in and out of here in 30 minutes without too much trouble. Not your usual NOLA lunch menu. Only one Poboy and nothing deep fried. However, it did cover a lot of ground, something for everyone. I tried the pasta dish, andouille sausage, cajun spices, chicken. It came with bread and a very nice side of vegetables. Large serving, tasty. Total bill with tip was $17.50. If you are in the area, take a look at the newest planation house in the area. Its on the corner of Ormand Blvd. and River Rd, 22,000 sq ft, the new DuPlantis tax-free rectory. read more

It was nice to be able to eat at the plantationThey're only open for lunch during the week and the prices are a little higher than other lunch spots in Destrehan. With that said, the food was delicious! I had the Catfish Buck Town which had a pecan flour batter and was topped with lump crabmeat and a crystal menuiere. Sooo good! My wife had the Crabmeat au Gratin with the largest lump crabmeat I've ever seen at any restaurant. It came with the vegetable du jour which was okra of some sort. Both were really good! The crabmeat au gratin was good but wasn't the most flavorful I've had, but it was still very good. I can't wait to go back and try something else on the menu! read more

Oh where do I begin...this review is based on a wedding I attended last weekend. The owner mentioned she was a new owner and did not want to put lights outside for the ceremony taking place on the front lawn of the plantation. She obliged when the officiant said she wouldn't be able to read in the dark. So they set up spot lights that shined like the sun in the bridal parties faces and left the crowd in darkness. Hope the photographer was expertly skilled. No microphone, so all the guests heard was the traffic on river road. The disc jockey was still setting up when we were walking in. He said it would cost $1.25 for any song requested that he didn't have. Food wasn't allowed to be served until the bridal party was finished with pictures. The best thing was the spinach dip and fried eggplant sticks, everything else was of cheap poor quality. The buffet food was picked up half way through the reception. The bar consisted of the cheapest liquor known to man, box wine and keg beer. Worse than any gas station liquor. The bartenders were loaded(another guest mentioned that he attended a wedding 2 weeks prior and the same bartender was loaded/drunk then too) Guests complained that the bartenders would mess up a 2 ingredient drink. For example an amaretto sour was amaretto and lime juice even after remaking it. The groom was positioned behind the chandelier to throw his garter, so take one guess where it ended up. Needless to say, I would stay away from this place. Apparently the new owner has no idea what shes doing and until she figures it out, I wouldn't want to waste a single dollar on this place. We went for Sunday Brunch and ended up getting way more than expected! The atmosphere was very old time and rustic, which is what you would expect from a plantation. They offered bottomless mimosas for $16 and it was worth every penny! They were delicious! We also got a few appetizers and they were all amazing. The favorite was the crab and Brie dip. The food is fantastic. I absolutely adore the stuffed eggplant. Ormond Plantation is only open for lunch but charge dinner prices. It's totally worth the price though if you ask me. We stayed there 2 weeks ago and it was fantastic. Paige is the perfect manager and made our stay fun and relaxing. She went out of her way to send back items that we left. Great southern hospitality and it just gets better. This was our 5th stay since 2003? The renovations and beauty our the best kept secret! We will be back soon. Food is absolutely delicious! Breakfast is unbelievable and dinner is fantastic. Chef Richard is the best. Our server at breakfast was great, friendly and helpful in recommending places to eat crawfish. Had one of the Best Experiences at the Ormond Plantation. It's not the high end 1600 thread count sheets kinda of place. This is a real southern experience, from the hospitality, the home cooking to the owner Robyn handing me the keys to the front door for the duration of our stay. We had a wonderful trip to New Orleans, but it was marred by one problem we found everywhere we went: mediocre to very good dining, but for five star prices. We tried Brennan's, R'evolucion, Cochon, and several other places with $30+ per meal prices. The best of these was Brennan's, but of course it is not as much of the true southern dining experience as an overall great historical experience. In any case, with just one day left in our trip we headed down to Destrehan plantation and had about 1.5 hours for lunch. Happened across Ormond and gave it a shot and it turned out to be half the price and the best dining experience we,be had in some time. There were 7 of us and we unanimously agreed it was by far the best meal we'd enjoyed on our 7 day trip. The one thing I would agree about is the wait staff didn't quite match the overall ambiance and food quality. They were fun in their own way, but weren't keeping up as our drinks were usually empty. This is probably the best place for lunch in St. Charles Parish when it comes to variety and quality. The dishes are well prepared, flavorful, and appropriately priced. The pecan smoked pork rack is excellent and consistent. The gumbo is always on point. The service can be a bit slow and lacking. Make sure you have 45-60 minutes for lunch if you're going between 1130-1230. read more

Very nice warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu has a great selection. Everyone in our party loved their appetizers and entrees. Prices are very reasonable. The hostess was sweet and accomodating. The waitress no so much!!! She was very busy but she let us know by her negative attitude and comments. Told us if we weren't ready to order immediately, we would have to wait a while for our food. I can only imagine that she has displayed her unprofessional attitude with others as well. We are going to go back and give it another try with a different waitress. During the 2011 and 2012 Christmas holidays I attended two luncheons with the same group of 30 people at Ormond Plantation. Both times I was very pleased with the flavor of the food as well as the service of the waitstaff. I enjoyed the plantation's peaceful ambience, especially the beautiful old oak trees laden with Spanish moss. Tasteful holiday decor added to the spirit of the season. I and other members of the group had very nice comments about our luncheon experiences and I'm sure will return there again. read more
