I see why there constant great reviews for this place. The service and food are amazing! I had the bacon omelette and it came out steaming hot, fresh, and very good. I would definitely recommend this place and will come back to try other things when I'm in the area.
We hadn't been here in quite some time so we decided to give it another go. The service was mediocre at best; the server never came back to check on us or refill coffee. Someone else even delivered our food to the table. The restaurant itself could do with a bit of a refresh; it's a bit dated and worn. Also, it's pretty pricey for what you get- we ordered the sausage and eggs breakfast it was 13.30 add coffee and toast the total for one breakfast was 21.44! The food was good, served hot; but was it worth it? I would say NO, other places are going to give you more bang for your buck!
Man, such a disappointment this morning. The service was friendly, and the place looked pretty clean. But being the first one in the door and ordering immediately. Just some pancakes and eggs and bacon. 20 min later and nothing yet, Waitress saw me looking so asked the line cook what was what, and 10 min later I finally get my food. There are 3 people standing, prepping? And talking and only one other person here. Not sure what cook was doing but he wasn't making my food. All that said the food was good. The pancakes came out looked tore up, guess he had trouble flipping them? But they were tasty. I was really looking forward to this since I hadn't been to an old pancake house in years. May have to give them another go. I give the 3 and not 2 because of service and food.
This place was super busy on a Saturday around noon but the wait didn't take long and service was quick. Our food was excellent. The restaurant is cute and big. Loved the pancakes!
Been going here a long time food never miss! Great breakfast spot. You gotta get here early because they will definitely get packed! It reminds you of home with decor they have and their service is great! Even when busy!
Dutch baby was fluffy and not too sweet. Banana and strawberry on the side. Just right amount. Worth the wait. I went there around room but I waited only 10 min or so for two. They will bake after you order Dutch baby and big apple. They are both to die for. If you have not tried them, you are missing out something!!
We came in on a Sunday morning around 10:30 AM and it was very very busy, with a line out the door. We were totally happy to wait so we stayed in the line and it moved quickly! The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, and the service was so fast even though it was so busy! We tried the Dutch baby treat and they sent out two, because they felt as though one of them may have been a bit burnt. I thought that was so nice of them! Especially considering that we didn't think it was too burnt by any means- they were both DELICIOUS! 10/10. I forgot to take pics but we also each got a Belgian waffle. He also got home fries, bacon and sausage which were all really good. It was also decorated with fun Halloween decor for the season! We will absolutely be back and it was worth every single minute of the wait.
A breakfast that's worth the wait! I got a Dutch baby, and my partner got the 49er pancakes. Both were absolutely delicious! The waitress was very friendly and helpful with anything that was needed, checked in often but not too much. I loved the decor as well! Would recommend!
I'm not sure why I've never reviewed The Original Pancake House. I consider this one of my top choices for breakfast in the Metro Detroit area, and we hit this place often. Everything on the menu is delicious, but the buckwheat pancakes, the Dutch Baby Treats, and the potato pancakes are my favorites. In the fall, their pumpkin pancakes are to die for. The bacon is excellent as is their turkey sausage. They offer fresh-squeezed orange juice, and it is SO good. The place prides itself on using fresh, high quality ingredients, and I'm sure this is why the food is delicious, and the place is a favorite breakfast spot for many.
Breakfast and brunch, since being the first meal of the day, shouldn't disappoint. You won't be disappointed dining at the Original Pancake House. Dining here for many years, the restaurant has been consistent since I remember going there as a young lady. The sausage and bacon remind me of "country bacon/sausage". They have a deep porkie flavor. I love the fluffy omelets, from the ham & cheese to the spinach and mushroom, they are always great. The pancakes, in my opinion are superior to any others in the area. Plan ahead to wait in line, because it's always been a popular spot. If you go right before closing, you may have a little wiggle room and a quiet meal.
My first visit to this location in ~40 years. Yelp considers 3-stars to be Okay. Ergo, this is only a 2-star review. Noisy. No soft surfaces. No sound traps. Difficult to hold a conversation at our table of six. At 8AM, it was noticeably humid inside. By 9AM, it was approaching "turn On the AC" level. By 9:30; it was indeed time to leave. Did I mention it is noisy? All six breakfasts arrived simultaneously - yay! I ordered corned beef hash. It includes two eggs and three buttermilk pancakes. The pancakes were very good, the butter was soft and the syrup did not have artificial sweeteners (that have an aftertaste). Did I mention it is noisy? The two eggs were scrambled-hard, precisely as ordered ... but the corned beef hash came from a can. Boo! Hiss! Did I mention it is noisy? Service was excellent. IIRC; her name starts with "M." Will I return? No.

Our waitress had a little attitude when we was asking for more napkins. But the food was amazing as usual! Blueberry pancakes are my favorite and the bacon is always a perfect crispy.
Now, this isn't Butterfield in Scottsdale, AZ, but I remember growing up here in Michigan and visiting this place over 30 years ago, and the food is still consistent. My server Tori was great, very attentive to details, and was able to manage about 8 tables at once and made sure that everyone one felt welcome at any giving time. As Ms. Tori dealt with a difficult customer. She kept her poise about the situation as the patron was rude and disrespectful about his order and informed her it was a reflection of her and she still provided excellent service to him. This is what great service is about, the good, bad and ugly rolled all up into one. I appreciated Ms. Tori and how she handle that customer. Keep up the good work.

Blew away my expectations. I was expecting a perfectly enjoyable breakfast, but didn't think it would offer taste that I couldn't get many other places. Well, I was wrong about that. First is that it has a big menu, which I don't always feel is a good thing as it risks not really specializing in one area. Well, I was proven wrong. The 'big apple' is a signature dish and one that comes up on many searches, so I went with it. From a regular pic, it might not jump out to you and you may think it's almost like an apple fritter (though nothing wrong with that), but it's so much more. It's almost difficult to describe. It seems like it was cooked in it's own unique bowl-shaped pan since it's crispy all around, including the edges that lift a couple inches. It's surprisingly light, almost like a light, airy crepe. Maybe even a bit like a Yorkshire pudding. Of course, it's sweet and the apple aspect of it was also better than I expected. Almost certainly real apples roasted in house added with cinnamon sugar and not just something prefabricated from a bag and warmed. We had a huge group of three families and everyone loved what they had. The pancakes were a huge hit and were true butter milk pancakes. Those, and many other things, tasted as though made with real butter. My daughter loved her crepes. The friend with me was really impressed with his omelet. It goes on. Another friend had never had potato pancakes before (such as latkes) and loved them here. So yeah, this place was a massive hit for me and about 15 others I was with. Will be back for sure. read more

"Let's Do It Again!" The Original Pancake House is not everyone's cup of tea, however, it works for me. I ordered an Egg Specialty Breakfast of (4) Turkey Link Sausages with (2) Scrambled Eggs and added cheddar cheese. It comes also with (3) Buttermilk Pancakes which is what we came for...right???? One of my bestie was able to stick to her dietary restrictions with a Vegetarian Omelette with added Spinach. I took her pancakes home with two of my sausage for breakfast the next day. Everything was good! Our server for today was Taeja, who was very sweet! The ambiance is always pretty mellow for such a busy restaurant. read more

There was a time in my life when my childhood friends and I would take trips to get breakfast on random Saturday mornings. Funny enough we would drive to places that were 15-20 minutes out simply because we didn't find the closer options to be attractive to us. One of the restaurants we frequented was this OPH in Southfield. I always found the decor to be quite inviting, making me feel like I was visiting a country lodge on a vacation somewhere. This place is always busy, with lines out the door being a common site. Thankfully there is plenty of seating space, so it didn't take forever to eventually get a table. I have never had anything from the menu I didn't like, and if you're someone like me who avoids pork they have turkey sausage as a substitute. I will admit that my experiences over the years haven't always been consistent, but on this particular day all the stars aligned. My good friend and I came here right before it got busy, we had a very attentive waitress, our food was perfectly cooked and delicious (the pancakes and home made syrup are out of this world) and the coffee really hit the spot. They have 2 other locations in Birmingham and Gross Pointe Woods, neither of which are close to where I live. That's okay, because driving here on those rare occasions when I can actually make it out adds a little something special to the experience. I'm glad to see this restaurant has not declined or dipped in quality over the years. Definitely a top 5 breakfast restaurant in Metro Detroit. read more

Really there is no need to leave a review about The Original Pancake House or OHOP as we like to call it. It's a staple. If you eat at IHOP I'm judging you, sorry. I'm not a pancake person, but this is the only spot I eat pancakes. Best Hot Chocolate out, I'm not arguing with you. You know what you getting when you go to OHOP. read more
Everything I've tried here is amazing!! There's a reason there's usually a line out the door. It's worth the wait! The food is delicious and they have a lot of offerings both savory and sweet. The prices are really good too! The decor is dated but cozy and quaint. I think the dates look is intentional and is part of their vibe. Sort of like a Cracker Barrel type of atmosphere. The service is great and decently quick for how busy it is! Our server this time was super sweet and kept the coffee coming. Because it is often busy, sometimes I will have to wait a minute for a coffee or water refill. But because I enjoy the food so much, it's worth a little wait. If you don't have a line out the door, consider yourself lucky. But if you do, know it's worth the wait! read more

I have been coming here for a lot years now and I love it here mainly for the turkey sausage it has a little spice to it which I like. I enjoy all the food. Not too expensive about average for breakfast food. The French toast reminds me of a donut but it's still pretty good. The service isn't always the best it's a hit or miss when it comes to service. I was with a group on friends on a shopping trip to the Farmington Hills area and our original plan was to eat in Farmington Hills. Well low and behold - all the restaurants we had in mind were an hour wait. One of the guys suggested This Original House of Pancakes in the Southfield area so we were on our way. We walked in and there was no wait (about 1:30 on a Saturday) and we got waited on pretty quickly - they put together a booth with a small table so that the 6 of us could sit together. Once we ordered - that is when the wait began! Luckily for us - we were enjoying talking so it didn't bother us as much as it might have if there were just a couple of us that were starving!! Once the food came it was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal and they were presented well. I only got a picture of mine and one other person - but they were all great looking. One woman got chocolate chip pancakes and it had a ton of whipped cream on it. She loved it and ended up bringing some home. I got the Sante Fe Omelette made with egg whites and it came with pancakes. I was happy with the omelette - it looked like it was baked in the oven as it was puffed up. I was, however, disappointed with the pancakes. I mean - its the name of the restaurant for goodness sakes! I have had better pancakes from the freezer section at the grocery store. That was a huge disappointment as I never get pancakes and was really looking forward to it. So this is a chain restaurant and it served the purpose - but I wouldn't make a special trip here for their pancakes! read more
The service here is really friendly and welcoming right from the get go you feel that home style warm and fuzzy feeling then the smell of pancakes and grilled meats hits the air and you know you're in for a good time. This is one of my absolutely favorite Michigan only restaurants. Thats right this is the only place you can get the famous baked omelettes and fluffy pancakes. I usually go for the vegetarian it comes with broccoli, tomatoes, mushrooms and onions stuffed with Swiss and cheddar cheese and a side of 3 lush buttermilk pancakes for about $13.50. I highly recommend this place as a MUST TRY for anyone visiting Michigan. read more
Charming Breakfast Spot! The Original Pancake House is the epitome of a charming breakfast spot. It's got that rustic diner vibe, feels like a cozy nook where Momma whips up the best breakfasts. They keep it simple with options like the traditional platter, and man, it hits the spot. Sausages, pancakes, cheese grits, and hashbrowns are my go-to, and they nail it. Omelets are solid too! Only hiccup--I ordered scrambled eggs, but it seemed like they were in a hurry. Mine came out looking like scrambled pebbles, could use a little more TLC. Customer service was top-notch, though. The inside is cute, rustic, and screams traditional breakfast joint. As usual, it's busy. Havent been here in yearS. My last attempt was, comically enough, Easter Monday '22. There are booths & tables. Least amount of seats per table is 2. I am seated in a row of 2 seater tables w/ less than 3 feet of space. I'm in conversational distance to the table next to me. As a matter of fact, 1 person was able to reach over from my row of tables & hug another person at the other row of tables. I ordered a corned beef omelet & added chocolate chips to the 3 pancakes that come with it at 10. Meal was brought to me at 1012! read more

OPH was our Sunday stop after a whirlwind weekend of high school state football championships. Arrived about 11 a.m. and waited twenty minutes in the car. Guessing they were short staffed (Covid is still a thing, folks), because we waited another 45 minutes after ordering for our food. Give grace and roll with the punches. But onto the food. I had pecan pancakes and a western omelet. The latter was quite good: perfectly melted cheddar cheese held the savory ingredients between a fluffy egg envelope. And the cheese stayed ooey and gooey from start to finish. Pancakes were solid. I had hoped for bigger and thicker/fluffier, but they were definitely fresh. OPH mixes the batter up fresh. And the butter was slathered on so generously it ought to qualify as its own side dish! I'd eat them again. I enjoyed their American fries, too (although we ordered ketchup that never arrived). Thick sliced and nicely fried to be both crispy and potatoey chewy. Sundays are slamming for any brekkie joint, and Covid makes it hard sometimes to keep up. Hoping hard for a return to better flow for OPH and what is sure to be a legion of devoted customers. read more
Been going to the Birmingham location for years and this was first time at this location. Everything was just as delicious! It was quite busy on a weekday morning. My go to order is the Sante Fe omelette and French toast. The pancakes are so fluffy and buttery. This place never disappoints! read more
Best pancake house in Southfield! If you're looking for a cozy, home cooked style diner this is the place! We ordered blueberry pancakes, French toast, hash browns, turkey sausages and bacon. Everything was delicious, but the pancakes were especially good! They were light, fluffy, and thin (my favorite)! Our waitress Chris was wonderful. She was very friendly and service was very quick! Definitely recommend! read more
