Dampkring is a great little coffeeshop that's less than a 10 minute bike ride from most parts of the city. The prices are a little more than some other coffeeshops, but the coffee is actually pretty good and they offer good value in their products. It was worth visiting although it was very busy and we had to share a table with some other people. This happened to be the first cafe me and my friend Mark went to in Amsterdam, and it's probably the best. It was the outside of the place that caught my eye, it's kind of moroccan. The producers of Oceans 12 must have liked it too, they set the Robbie Coltrane baffles Matt Damon scene here. Inside the theme continues, and there are various certificates and such on the walls for the awards its won. Mark selected what we would have, which apparently was rather strong. My famous last words were 'I'm getting nothing from this' and then I stood up, my glasses fell off, I couldn't walk, passed out and cracked my head on the floor. Next thing I knew I was outside being administered sugar water by the waitress. Everyone chanted 'fall down fall down it's a fall down' but I had fallen down by that stage and did not hear their remarks. read more

Went to a decent amount of coffeeshops while in Amsterdam and this by far was my favorite! It was a place my friends and I went to our first night and we went back once more later in the trip. I can't say much for the employees as I didn't have too many interactions with them (though the few I did were fine). What I loved most about this place was the atmosphere. It was decorated in a cool way, everyone hanging there was super chill, and there's a cute little cat that hangs around too. Dampkring has been an Amsterdam establishment for a fair few years now and sells some of the best solids in the city. The EU smoking ban has led to a big expansion with Dampkring opening up a further two coffee shops on Haarlemmerdijk (up near Barnerys and on the way to Westerpark). I assume this is to other tobacco smokers a place where they can spark up/flaunt the EU ban. Drinks are overpriced but then they are in most shops, the staff are usually friendly unless it's busy. They also do a nice piece of chocolate fudge spacecake that according to the label is 3% dope. read more

Surely among the best in product quality. Yet overcrowded with beginners and kind of a tourist attraction. If you come to Amsterdam everybody has a suggestion which is THE best coffeeshop mostlikely you'll hear Dampkring, Tweede Kammer, Rokerij and one of the cooler ones in the red light district or even Dolphin if you're lucky. Still I think it is more than the dope quality that matters e.g. staff, ambience, people, music and especially how noisy the music is. The closer to the center you are, the noisier the music because more unexperienced tourists visits the shops in the center and they tend to fall asleep or do the englishmen (drink too much and then smoke weed). All of that sucksnoisy music, sleeping tourists and pale white faces of drunks that can't handle it. Dampkring is in an area with too many tourists and hardly bareable at the weekend: too small, too noisy and too many unexperienced customers. The weed is great. read more

I loved this place! Now this is what I imagined when I thought of coffee shops in Amsterdam. The bud tender was upbeat and the rest of the staff was exceptionally warm and friendly. Maybe the poor reviews of the bartenders were because of poor clients. They made my visit! They knew just what treat I was craving next and sent me home with an extra little treat on them. The smoothies are delicious and the coffee is just right. Try the Belgian hot chocolocate! Mmm! Don't forget to scratch the ears of Bowie, the worlds most stoned out cat! I wasnt too impressed with the dampkring, ok its fancy inside and stuff, but the service recieved was a lil pants. we went becuase somebody we met said one of their blends was one to try, the counter to get smoke at must have had half of the cafe there waiting to get served for their blends. Once we got our stuff we nabbed a quick drink and left only to find that when we got to our next stop someone in our group was given the wrong blend compared to what they had ordered. read more

The Dampkring Coffee Shop is noted as one of the best in Amsterdam and I can see why. Its a quirky little coffee shop with unusual trippy decor and a chilled and relaxing vibe. Being such a small (but popular place) Its always packed out and difficult to get a table. If you do manage to bag a seat Its a great place to spend a few hours people watching sipping a Coffee or having a smoke. As a non-smoker I cant comment on that side but the Dampkring does serve the best freshly squeezed Orange Juice - squeezed using an old fashioned press. The Coffee is OK, a bit too strong for my liking but they do also have Cappaccino or Latte's which are a bit less bitter!! And of course all coffee's are served with a little Biscuit on the side - It wouldnt be Amsterdam without my Biscuit on the side of my coffee. Dude in back definitely knows what's he's talking about and makes good recommendations. The hippie brunette in her 40s at the café bar on the otherhand is rude and doesn't bother with eye contact. I felt like I was wasting her time when talking to her, and she snapped back at me when I asked for some tea that she'd be right with me. She then walked to the other side of the bar, finished her transaction, then helped another customer who asked her in the same fashion as me for sparkling water. Maybe I need a new jacket, or maybe it was just bad timing, but it's people like her that ruin Amsterdam. Otherwise this place has a good mellow vibe which may has gotten a bit spoiled by being featured by Anthony Bordain and in Ocean's 11 and 12. It happens. read more

Visited back in December, there was a girl bar-tending that was extremely rude. She charged some guys 4 euro for their drinks and 12 euro for ours. The Spanish guy who knows several languages in the back was amazing! He was really cool. Overall, I think there are better shops in Amsterdam. read more

Very chill coffeeshop near the center of town. Not much in the way of food options - in the past, my brothers have had grilled cheese here but when we went they were sold out - but let's be serious, you come here for the coffee and herb! Cool that they shot Oceans 12 here, we sat at the table they filmed at and now I have to go watch the movie again... the bartender is very friendly and the place was busy with young-ish well dressed people having a good time. I liked that while it's close to the city center, it's not in the crush of everything. While some of the other places we tried were uncomfortably jammed, Dampkring was just buzzing and full of good vibes. read more

This is truly a five star experience! We were a bit uncomfortable at a couple other coffeehouses in Amsterdam which I will not mention because I wouldn't want to hurt their reputation here. The world needs more of this, not less. That being said, not all the coffee shops have a crowd that makes older tourists feel welcome. The Original Dampkring was warm and friendly to young and old and tourists as well as locals. The product is some of the best I've smoked. Very smooth. It's available pre rolled and comes in its own custom container (which I saved)! Very professional! The staff is patient and helpful and their chocolate milkshakes are amazing! I loved Bowie the cat too! 19 years old! The atmosphere hasn't harmed him at all! We are in our sixties and we fit right in. Conversation was easy and the vibe is perfect! I only wish I could have found something like this when I was younger. If you are in Amsterdam and looking for the perfect spot for legal Marijuana, your search is over! Very quaint place. I was on a mission for a special space cake though. OMG the chocolate was fabulous. Just eat it in moderation. It's no joke when they say you'll have a party in your head if you eat the whole thing at once. Especially if you are not used to it. It was super tasty, it wasn't anything like I've had before. This is not my first time in Amsterdam, but this was my first time at the Original Dampkring. I was expecting it to be packed, but my husband and I managed to find a place at the bar with ease. The quality of product they have is excellent from what I have sampled. Everyone I talked to was courteous and helpful, especially the nice woman at the bar with the black hair. My husband had a strawberry banana milkshake, and I had a jasmine tea. The milkshake was thick and delicious, and the tea was hot and fragrant, with a little ginger cookie on the side. All in all, a hugely positive experience, and another great memory to take away from my travels in Amsterdam! read more

De Dampkring is sometimes very crowded but otherwise it's perfect. The atmosphere is awesome, the menu is packed with quality items and the barkeep has always been friendly and happy to loan tools. It's a bit away from the beaten tourist track so that makes the experience a lot better than all the places that you will pass on the way. read more

I can't say enough about how awesome this place & its staff are. Whether you have 20 mins or an hour. Have a hot chocolate! TRUST ME. The smoke selection is wide and budtenders tips are very helpful. Fantastic spot. If you're looking for a bar type feel, this is where to go. Only issues: the line can get long and the spot is a little small for their level of demand so it can be hard to grab a table, but how do you fault them for that? I only came across this place on my third visit to the dam and was impressed with friendly atmosphere which you dont find in most coffeeshops.Unfortunatly I didnt sample anything on the menu other than soft drinks but did check it out and it seemed to have a great selection.Drinks were around the same price you pay in most places.Definitly will go back there next time read more

In our two short day trip to Amsterdam, we found ourself at this awesome little stoner hangout both days. The staff is very knowledgable and very friendly. We smoked pure joints for the most part, but also tried the mixed joint with tobacco, a space cake and their amazing fruit smoothies. My reccomendation: make this your first stop when visiting the coffee shops of amsterdam. No idea where all these good reviews are coming from, my experience was less than satisfactory. I went with my sister at about 5 pm I think and the place was packed- but not in the good way. Luckily someone had just gotten up when we sat down or else there would have been no where to sit. We sat at the bar and both of us were forced to buy a drink even though we had just bought a splif too. The bartender was a girl that was extremely rude to us. I asked her a question and she completely ignored me and then answered about 2 minutes later. She just had a really bad attitude all around. Also there was hardly any tobacco in my splif even though I asked for it mixed. With so many better coffee shops in Amsterdam, I highly highly suggest skipping this one. read more
