I came in on a Sunday afternoon and have not been to eat here for quite some time. The food was great. I got chicken subgum, and maybe it don't look very great to some. It exceeded my expectations on flavor. I loved it, and would love to see it without the chicken and more celery. Fried rice and pork were great. Also sesame chicken. Arrived at 11:06. Our order was taken by 11:13. Three of the four dishes arrived by 11:35 and the fourth a couple minutes later. Their was one other table ahead of us with six people. Our party of four all ordered egg flower soup with our meals. It was good and had a nice mild flavor of mushroom. One out of four would of ordered their meal again. We all ordered from the lunch menu. No.8 Would not order again. Fried rice Sweet & Sour Chicken Beef broccoli L15 Would not order again. Sweet & Sour Pork Fried Rice Spring Roll Fried Wonton No.1 Would order again. Pork Chow Mein Fried Rice Egg Foo Young L12 Would not order again. Szechuan Beef - It did not have Szechuan whole peppers but some flakes. It also had canned mushrooms in it. Fried Rice Spring Roll Fried Wonton The three us that would not order again all had the same complaint. The sauce. It was way too sweet. However the brown gravy on the egg food young was good. No one cared for the rice or fried wontons. No one out of our four would choose to visit here again. If the sweetness could be fixed everyone would of enjoyed their meal. read more

I have at times had this food and it was fine but a little too much oil on the lo-mein. But fine not bad. I made the mistake to ask for less oil on 3 dishes for diet reasons. I just asked for light on the oil. Mistake...my food was all oily like dipped in oil oily. Even the egg roll was dripping. $70 later! Never again. read more

The best dishes are on the board, and not the menu. The crispy sechuan tofu is delicious, but only if you really like spice. This is a hole-in-the-wall, BUT usually those kinds places have outstanding food that keeps the building from falling down. The food here is typical American Chinese (sweet and sour, fried rice, etc.) of below average quality. It's not terrible, its just not very great. Sometimes you will feel heavy or bloated after. But due to lack of competition for good Chinese in town, it's a mainstay. For awhile the prices were low enough to justify the food, but not anymore. I once chatted with the service to get a sense of what they serve that is more traditional Chinese, because the staff is obviously from east Asia. He stared me blankly and said he doesn't eat anything on the menu. So, I ordered the #12 and have never been back. read more

I went over there to order take-out for my friend, son and I. My son ordered sesame chicken, pan fried noodles and BBQ pork. He got the chicken but no sauce and the hot mustard was runny like water. I was on my way out of town, so my son called me to warn me about the food. so when I got to my friend's house we opened the packages and... My friend ordered the combination #3 which is sweet and sour chicken, pan fried noodles and chow mein and a side of crab puffs. She did not get the sweet and sour chicken nor the pan fried noodles but she did get the mustard I ordered combination number 13 which is General Tso's chicken, crab puffs, pan fried noodles with a side order of pot stickers and fried rice. I did not get the pan fried noodles and got 2 orders of the General Tso's chicken which did not taste very good either. Tomorrow, I'm gonna go over there and attempt to get my money back and will probably not go back over there to eat ever again. Maybe they had a bad day or the girl that took my order is new or had a bad day, I don't know but they did take my money and it wasn't cheap food either. I was in town for business and looked a different site that gave this place good reviews 4 and 5 stars , I wished I won't have, I should have moved along when I went in to order this eve at 530 pm and there was not 1 person in the place , I told myself well maybe folks eat later in this town , So I put in a To Go order of Vegetable lo mien and Vegetable fried rice both had zero flavor and lacked many vegetables ( as u can see by the photo ) pretty much it was a few carrot pieces and a couple mushroom chunks and a few water chestnuts , yes u have to search for I mixed the dish around in second photo so I had some to show , they then combined with noodles or mushy rice ( mushy like it was most likely cooked for the lunch crowd , We threw both to go meals out as they were that bad , yes they gave u big portions but it it not worth eaten then portion size lacks talking about, Oh and the fortune cookie was soft no crunch , like it was stored in a damp place , or maybe they were just so old ? read more

Food is okay, very cold and awful decor. I wouldn't recommend this place but I can't say it's terrible. I got the general tso chicken and my mother got the Szechuan chicken. My fiancé and I were really craving some Chinese. Our usual spot was closed and the only other place open was this place. I had my reservations due to a past experience that ended badly. But decided to give it another try. Remembered why I hated it. The service was horrible. Not even a hello how are you or anything. Didnt speak a qord to us besides are you ready to order. Just set our stuff down and walked away. Waited 45 minutes for food that was cold. My fiance and I bit into our chicken and the middle was cold. Brought it to the waiters attention and he took my plate and put it in the microwave and brought it back. If I wanted microwaved food I would have bought a frozen dinner. We paid $21 for 2 people. It's not bad but the portion sizes was way small compared to other places. My fiance went to use the restroom and it was diagusting. I have pictures. There was poop smeared on the walls. Worst chinese food I have EVER had. Do not eat here. I ordered sesame chicken when I went there thinking they would bring out some breaded chicken in an amazing sweet sesame sauce or something. Not hardly. They gave me breaded fried chicken chunks with NO sauce. Delicious food! We were skeptical to try it out because it looks pretty janky from the outside but glad that didn't prevent us from trying it out. The inside is very clean and comfortable and the service was good. Me and my fiance went there for lunch and he ordered the orange chicken and I ordered the general tso's chicken. The batter was fresh and crispy and most importantly the chicken was not dry! They serve the perfect amount of food so you can finish it all and be stuffed. We recently tried the Canton Wok in The Dalles and also enjoyed that place but we both agreed that overall the Orient Cafe tastes better. You will get a little more food at the canton wok but I felt their chicken was dry and the egg roll was way over cooked. I'm not an egg roll expert (I usually will choose a crab rangoon over an eggroll) but it seemed like the egg roll at canton wok was stuffed with stuffing (as in the stuff you have at thanksgiving) and seasoned with chicken flavored ramen noodle seasoning. The egg roll at orient cafe was filled with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection! Overall, don't let the outside look of Orient Cafe fool you and give it a try! read more
