I have been getting my Brazilian with Maria since 2015, would not go to anyone else! Service is quick, clean ,and efficient! The sugaring process was quick and wasn't that painful. The sugaring esthetician was friendly and paid attention to details. Sugaring only uses natural food-grade ingredients like sugar, lemon juice, and honey, not all the crazy chemicals in wax. I prefer sugaring to waxing. Sugaring will only take away dead skin cells and pulls hair at the roots, unlike waxing which also removes live skin cells! I've been struggling for some time on exactly what to say in this review. Let me start off by saying I purchased a package of three Brazilian waxes off of Groupon. My first visit left me wondering if I should go back. But, as stated before, I had two additional packages remaining. And you better believe I'm not letting my moolah go to waste! So anyway...first visit...I completely agree with one of the previous reviewers who said Maria's personality is "neutral" (and that's being generous). A combination of nerves and hot sugar/wax being poured on my woohaa caused me to sweat a little bit during my session. No big deal for any of the technicians I've been to at other studios, but Maria kept berating me about it. Asking "Why are you sweating?" "You're still sweating?" At one point I told her "Uh. Yeah. The wax is hot and it's painful." Needless to say she did not make me feel welcome during the visit. On the second visit she chastised me because she thought I shaved between my visits. I did not. But she even told me that the next time I do that, she would charge me extra. Mmmmmmmmkay. #byemaria As you can imagine, there was no third visit. I don't know if she's just overly rude to people who have purchased Groupons, or if that's just her personality. Either way, I'll never return. read more

First sugar wax was a success! I am enthusiast of hard wax for women of color. I swear by it. However, When the craze of sugar wax came along I heard great reviews by women of color and I been wanting to try it (for over 3 years lol). In the DMV you can find estheticians who specialize in sugar wax very easily, thus there are a lot of choices. I'm glad I choose this spot, the staff were welcoming, the salon was modern and clean, and the waxing took less than 20 mins. I wouldn't call the process painless, but after the initial shock it wasn't bad. It's not like hard wax where you can prep yourself for the removal, it's constant applying pulling. I am giving it two stars because I did not think that the owner was as friendly as she was described in other reviews. She was neutral, which isn't a bad thing, but she did not make me feel comfortable for me to even consider coming back. The actual service was not great. I left with random patches of hair on my skin, which I will have to go over it again at home. The room was dark and I kept pointing out areas which she missed. Since she has had her own studio her bedside manner has deteriorated. The last time I went which was this past February I actually left in tears. Maria mentioned that she had got me confused with another Lezlie so that is why she wasn't going to offer her $5 discount. The studio is in an office park down the street from the Franconia DMV. Maria is AWESOME she made me feel so comfortable. Had my first Brazilian sugar wax today it took about 25 minutes. It was good. However, there is pain involved. A few tips empty your bladder first before the service. DO NOT shave before the appointment it will HURT(Tears). First Maria inspects the area and she sprinkles baby powder on all of the areas to ensure she gets all of the hair. She waxed EVERYTHING front and back. Maria was very nice, however her work was awful! There were some hairs that she explained were too short so wouldn't come out, which I understood and take responsibility for. BUT, for the hair that was long enough she completely left one side of my inner groin undone while the other side was perfectly done. I will never use wax again after experiencing Maria's organic sugaring! First of all, Maria is informative, professional and such a beautiful person to know. During my first visit for a Brazilian, I had so many questions and was apprehensive on the effectiveness of removing hair. She educated me on the differences between waxing options and eased my mind about the results. Sugaring removes hair and not skin! Secondly, you smell divine after your session and your skin feels amazingly soft like a baby. Thirdly, the environment is relaxing and clean. And lastly, it takes about two weeks before my hair starts to grow back and I can see the difference in the appearance of my skin. No in-grown hairs, bumps or discoloration. My 9 year old and I starting getting our underarms sugared together as shaving made my underarms discolored, sore and created a daily routine for me that I didn't want to have to add to my regimen. Only place I go! Maria is great at what she does but she is also a no nonsense lady. I have been going here for a little over a year but I've been irregular with my appointments and Maria will call me out for taking too long to get back there. Don't feel bad if she points out that she thinks you shaved or that you wait too long between visits and come in with a wooly mammoth. It's her job and those things make it more difficult!
