I was very lucky to train here for a week while I was in town for a conference…read more Although I haven't been training jiu jitsu for very long (about 18 months), I have been to about 15 different gyms and schools. I'm also a teacher, and between my training time and my profession, feel qualified to say that Professor Asche's teaching is of excellent quality. First, he explains things in a way that makes them easy to understand. I noticed that everyone in his classes have a strong BJJ vocabulary, which means they've been understanding the theory *and* the techniques. Second, the class atmosphere is extremely respectful and kind. While BJJ is a combat sport, it can be taught in a way that is fun and provides a safe learning environment. Professor Asche's classes achieve this balance wonderfully. Third, the classes are well-structured. There's a skill-specific warm-up that has nothing superfluous (like random ab exercises). Each movement is an actual grappling movement and gets you ready for class. After, there's instruction, drilling, instruction, drilling, and then positional sparring where you get to practice the moves of the day in a controlled manner. After positional sparring, there's open sparring. It follows the teaching principle of 'gradual release of responsibility' or 'I do, we do, you do' which appeals to me as an educator. Fourth, the facilities are great. There are changing rooms, loaner gis, and Professor Asche has very good sanitary practices, which are important in grappling sports to prevent the spread of skin infections. It's probably the cleanest gym I've visited between the mat wipedowns after every session and the feet sanitizing tub. Finally, Professor Asche himself is very kind. I felt very welcomed, and hope to come back soon. I can't say enough nice things about the people or the training. If you live in the area, train here. TL;DR - great training with a great professor in a great facility. Train here, now.

Mr. Jewell shared many relevant stories of his career and integrated those into the course material, which really helped a knucklehead like me absorb the information and most importantly, stay interested. Shawn was also interested in hearing the personal stories of the students and used these to integrate the course material as well. This is the mark of a great instructor. I also noticed that Shawn laughed a lot during our two day course, also a very good sign for any type of instructor, especially one who has spent their entire adult life on the law enforcement/martial arts/personal protection arenas. I visited Sisters Oregon and never thought I would find a yoga studio like Life Love Yoga there!…read more Right when I walked in the studio was super clean and cozy. There were plenty of mats, bolsters, blocks, and straps and I started thinking "This place is legit!". Then Kari taught the most amazing flow class ever. She pays attention to every student, makes suggestions, and knows when you may need to take a rest. Although there were several other people in the class I felt like I was getting the attention of a private class. I felt amazing afterward! I ended up staying for the "Golden Yoga" class which was a great relaxing stretch. It was amazing to see Kari go from the more intense flow class to helping ladies in their 60's 70's and 80's with such ease. I live in Los Angeles and have had some amazing yoga teachers but Kari is right up there on top.

The owner taught the class, (a fantastic teacher...just what my worn down bones needed) there were props galore, huge plus, and was soooo reasonably priced. $12 for the class...now that's namasté-razy! If you're visiting the quaint area of Sisters or are a local, you need to know what a gem of a studio LLY is. So glad I found it!
