I was very lucky to train here for a week while I was in town for a conference…read more Although I haven't been training jiu jitsu for very long (about 18 months), I have been to about 15 different gyms and schools. I'm also a teacher, and between my training time and my profession, feel qualified to say that Professor Asche's teaching is of excellent quality. First, he explains things in a way that makes them easy to understand. I noticed that everyone in his classes have a strong BJJ vocabulary, which means they've been understanding the theory *and* the techniques. Second, the class atmosphere is extremely respectful and kind. While BJJ is a combat sport, it can be taught in a way that is fun and provides a safe learning environment. Professor Asche's classes achieve this balance wonderfully. Third, the classes are well-structured. There's a skill-specific warm-up that has nothing superfluous (like random ab exercises). Each movement is an actual grappling movement and gets you ready for class. After, there's instruction, drilling, instruction, drilling, and then positional sparring where you get to practice the moves of the day in a controlled manner. After positional sparring, there's open sparring. It follows the teaching principle of 'gradual release of responsibility' or 'I do, we do, you do' which appeals to me as an educator. Fourth, the facilities are great. There are changing rooms, loaner gis, and Professor Asche has very good sanitary practices, which are important in grappling sports to prevent the spread of skin infections. It's probably the cleanest gym I've visited between the mat wipedowns after every session and the feet sanitizing tub. Finally, Professor Asche himself is very kind. I felt very welcomed, and hope to come back soon. I can't say enough nice things about the people or the training. If you live in the area, train here. TL;DR - great training with a great professor in a great facility. Train here, now.

I lost my job and was going through an extremely difficult financial situation and had asked for an early cancellation of the last month of my contract without a charge or fee but I still had to end up paying for my full term. I know I was asking for a favor and I know that a contract is a contract but there are also certain times when empathy should play a part in business. At the end of the day, we are people taking care of people. A piece of advice for those who are going to try this studio for the first time... you will go through the first workout and it will be exciting and challenging and then while you are going through your little workout high after the session, you are offered membership deals. Which is obviously the point of the first class being free, but beware of your workout high blinding you from signing a contract or committing to something after having only tried it once. I will say the workouts are quick and effective and Mark (the owner) clearly cares about your experience when you are in there.

Incident# p15-075779 city of Rivirside Ca Police report . 5/20/2015, I was at the home depo on…read moreMadison av. A close call incident in the parking lot where as I almost backed into a car. Then a very angry man became very enraged, I apologize and at that time I was cold cocked on my jaw rite below the rite ear as I was exciting my vehicles. He then came at me with a second punch that I successfully blocked with both hands and arms as I quickly excited my vehicle and got to my feet to defend myself. I Keep my composure and a cool head, I was able to get myself quickly collected and ready to defend and attack if needed. He did not come in for another attack. I can't be absolutely sure if it was my composure and cool head that caused him to back down. But I will tell you this a person who is confident and trained stands a much better chance of surviving an assault than one who is not. In this incident I truly believe that it was he who was the lucky one that he chose not to attack A second time. The training and mussel memory that I gained from Mark over 8 years ago just kicked into my head and allowed me to begin my defense and counter attack emediately. Listen to Mark and train, train, train. This could have easily been you or your family. BE READY AT ALL TIMES. Steve T., Ps. Sent a cancellation notice via certified mail, which was not picked up, then hand-delivered it, but the contract was renewed despite doing this in a timely fashion. Paid over $600 additional until able to finally work out cancellations of the renewal.
