We have always enjoyed the shows at OCT, however, no one in our party enjoyed The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. The cast was pretty good, but everyone seemed to be yelling and it was a bit much. I know they need to project, but they were loud and maybe too energetic. It was overwhelming. The storyline was also a bit weird. It was easily our least favorite show and we couldn't wait for it to be over. Also, the food for us has been hit or miss. We had dinner elsewhere for that reason, but decided to have coffee and dessert and it was a mistake. The gingersnap cheesecake came out broken, curdled. My wife has been a pastry chef for years and she was horrified that that was what was sent out. We immediately sent it back! It also had maraschino cherry juice randomly spilled on the plate. I wish I had taken a photo of it. It was abysmal. My father in law got the mousse, but didn't realize that it would have a cup of coffee in it, so it was pretty much liquid. He was also very disappointed. Overall, we might have to rethink coming here again. We have always wanted to support local theater, but for the price we paid, we were very disappointed. read more

The Cabaret is a throw back to when dinner and a show were commonplace. I went and saw "Murder for Two," which was absolutely hilarious. When you buy your ticket to a show, you can opt in for ordering food. The cost of the food is separate from the cost of the ticket.. The menu is fairly basic but the food is amazing. I wasn't too hungry so I ordered the bread platter, the cheese platter, and dessert. The bread was fresh and came with different flavors of soft butter. The cheese plate had a good variety of cheese along with pickles, crostini, a little bit of fruit, and fig jam. My dessert was a called a Dick Hay pie and was vanilla ice cream with a layer of peanut butter with a chocolate cookie crust. It was served during intermission and tasted amazing. So much so that I was tempted to lick the plate. If you are in Ashland and looking for a different type of theatre, check out the Oregon Cabaret Theatre. Sensational Performance @ Oregon Cabaret Theatre in Ashland, OR. !!! What an experience! 'A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder' was absolutely divine!! A friend and I thoroughly enjoyed this performance and can't wait to see more shows! The actors were all incredible with their vocal range, uplifting with their expressions, and collaborated seamlessly. One of the best live shows I've had the pleasure of viewing!! While we did not partake in the dining experience, we did appreciate the hospitality, endless water refills, and the refreshing mocktails. Even though the space is small and intimate, I felt comfortable in the high top area overlooking the tables with a good view of the stage. The bathroom was more than adequate and clean as well. We are local season pass holders, so obviously we love the cabaret! The casts are always outstanding and recruited nationally and locally. While some may consider this the "off broadway" theater of Ashland, they are absolutely not playing second fiddle to OSF. Musicals and comedies are in primary rotation, as well as winter holiday nostalgia. The old church is constantly being upgraded (new dynamic lighting recently added to tables) and the servers are quick and friendly. The food is not something we regularly indulge in, but the cocktails are serviceable. But if you're here for the theater, no doubt it's 5 stars. read more

I went to a handfull of shows here and they were all good but the one I seen last night was great, Disaster. Performances were superb, music was wonderful and the story was hilarious. We had such a good time. Dinner and desert was on point. My husband had steak, prawns, salad, corn bites, and potatoes bites. I had the chicken premevera, perfection, then we had desert with coffee ice cream sandwiched together with a chocolate bottom and caramel and chocolate drizzled atop. Friends took me to see Waitress for my birthday. It was so well done on every level that I felt like I was in New York City at a Broadway play. The voices were wonderful as was the music and the acting and the way they managed the stage. We and everyone else had such a good time. I actually don't think I stopped smiling through the entire musical, except at the sad parts, of course. We've all agreed we're going to buy season tickets for 2026. PS. As other reviewers have noted, I don't recommend having dinner here. The food is mediocre at best. It would be wise to have brunch or dinner at a nearby restaurant before coming to Cabaret. Now if they decide to hire a chef who knows how to manage food prep & service well, that might be a different story altogether. read more

The shows are amazing but the food is so expensive and so bad. Definitely get dinner elsewhere. If you want any drinks or dessert at the intermission you have to order it before the show. Be prepared to wait and wait for your drink. I don't recommend ordering a martini or any cocktail really, stick to the wine or beer. read more

We've been enjoying shows here for the last year and love them. We get the mini subscription so we see three shows each year. We come from Northern California and always spend the weekend and do other things as well. We see the matinee performances and have the brunch. We like the leisurely pace of that. The food is enjoyable, the staff is very friendly, helpful and attentive. We've already put in our order for next year's shows and hope to continue for a long time to come. read more

This is strictly a review on the venue itself, not necessarily the production. There is not a bad seat in the house! After the online tickets being sold out, I called the box office and got on the waitlist. They were very helpful and informative. The day before the show the box office called to let me know I could purchase 2 tickets--balcony or high top bistro table. I opted for the bistro table, because I did not plan to partake in dinner service. Even with our seat backs against the back wall on the floor of the theatre, it was a clear view of the entire show. The dinner seemed lackluster as it was being served to a select couple tables nearby, so I was glad that we had eaten before the show. However, I would highly recommend going for dessert--specifically, the Dick Hay Pie or even the Special Dick Hay Pie. Just do it, you won't regret it! read more

The entertainment was a 5/5. The entrees were 3/5, although good IF you like mushrooms. Every entree had mushrooms except the hangar steak, which was cooked on too hot of a grill so that it was burnt on the outside although rare inside. Definitely book tickets to the show, but go for just drinks and dessert unless you love mushrooms, which are not my thing. read more

Came here to see The Full Monty! What an amazing space for performances! We didn't do dinner before, but it looks like it can be a fun experience. We were in the upper balcony and had a pretty good view of the show. The staff was friendly and the different levels of seats was pretty cool! We also ordered drinks and I like being able to sip while watching a show. Reading some of the other reviews, I can't help but laugh at the negative ones. I mean, who goes to show without reading about what it's about? Looking forward to watching another show here in the future! read more

Shows are great, food is the worst I have ever experienced. We saw Disaster at the matinee yesterday and the show was wonderful. Unfortunately, we also ordered off the menu even though the last several times the food was terrible. We got the charcuterie, and thought " how could you mess that up?". Well, they figured it out because it was the most disgusting thing my husband and I have ever tried to eat in our lives. It was an all pork platter and each worst then the last. Pork belly, pulled pork, some sort of sausage, fat with ham attached, and some pickled veggies. We couldn't even stand to look at it. My husband ordered a mule and it was terrible as well. In the past we have tried several other things and so far the only thing that wasn't terrible was the Dick Hay Pie. Also, it is note worthy that serve unfiltered room temperature tap water out of a metal pitcher. It is not even drinkable. Eat before or after in one of the many great Ashland restaurants and drink up before hand. read more

Five stars for the show and the theatre itself! I love how the intimate space surrounds the stage. I would HIGHLY recommend waitstaff offer water refills. We sat two hours watching staff fill cups and offer a carafe for tables while we sat, parched. We had to ask twice to get a refill. I also wish the Ahi special had been seared and not cooked jerky-tough. What with not having any water, the fish was not palatable. Such a bummer. Appetizers were pretty good and my date DEVOURED Dick Hay pie for dessert. We'll be back, but will likely skip the full-meal experience. Experienced "Disaster" the musical last Saturday 7/26. Words fail me to describe how hilariously funny and pleasurable it was. However I noticed that no one mentioned the ASL interpreters. They were so hilarious and animated and I found myself watching them as much as the stage performers! It was like watching two performances simultaneous. This place is a must if you're in the area! We went here on our last day in Ashland and it was amazing! The staff took our orders before the show began. I was going to get the peanut butter cheesecake when I realized that we could just order ice cream (my favorite dessert). The show began and it was hilarious! Great theatre. Another thing I like is you can come early and enjoy a nice meal. They also offer desserts at intermission the orange cake is amazing the food is pricey. The slice of cake is pretty small for $14 but overall it's a fun night out. Weve attended a lot of shows there and will be back in July for another. read more

My partner and I bought the last tickets online for the July 4 showing of Buddy Holly, which is going on until the first week of September. We opted in to come early for the theatre's brunch option. Our seats were not the best seats in the house I'd say: we were at Table 27 and my seat was the one facing the opposite direction of the stage, but all we had to do was turn our chairs toward the stage for a better view. Eventually, I took the seat of the table behind us for a better view because no one occupied that table. My partner had their stuffed french toast, which was all the more enjoyable because it wasn't a dish of sugar like how other restaurants or diners would serve it. It was not too sweet by itself, but the addition of the marionberry sauce and fruits help to sweeten it but not by too much. I had the chicken asparagus crepes and loved those--I'd definitely order it again. We were still getting through our cheese platter appetizer by the time our entrees arrived, but we were able to keep our food after brunch time and munch throughout the show. Desserts are served during intermission, but must be ordered before the start of the show. The audience is required to wear masks while the performers are on stage for the sake of their safety, which is honestly not much to ask for. Not sure if this will carry over to their next production, but I personally don't mind keeping it on if it makes the actors and actresses feel safer and better. NOW, the Buddy Holly show itself was such a pleasure to watch!! The production did so much justice to Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, and Ritchie Vallens, and we loved the energy of the whole cast. We didn't get the best seats in the house, but the attention that we were given in our spot sure made up for it :) (though, to be fair, my partner and I haven't been to a concert, theatre, or any musical outing since the beginning of COVID-19, so maybe we were just bouncing around too much haha.) read more

I recently attended the Sunday Brunch version of the Sherlock Holmes play "A Study in Scarlet". First, the play was just fantastic. As usual the actors, the staging and the story was very entertaining and very well executed. What makes this experience all the more enjoyable is the genius chef and staff who put together a menu based on the play. So in this case I chose an outstanding beet salad with blue cheese and candied pecans, a wonderful pub-style meal of bangers and mash (yes it came with the onion gravy) and bonus... even got to have a Scotch Egg at the intermission. There were lots of great choices on the menu -- this adds to the fun of going to the Cabaret -- as the food and drink menu is always changed to coordinate with the show. The service was also friendly and professional which is alway appreciated. Well done and keep up the good work. read more

Since I cannot provide a "star rating" for each element of the Oregon Cabaret experience, I had to put three, but here's why: Shows - nearly always fantastic. Saw Kinky Boots and it was a rollicking great performance. I say "nearly always" due to a performance of Buddy Holly featuring an understudy that didn't study enough. Service/food: NOT WORTH IT. The menu is quite overpriced for what you get, the bar service is glacial in pace and the servers have not been trained for the level of $$$ we're shelling out for it. The shows are always excellent. The food, however, needs some work, especially for the price point. As locals, we have been to many shows and we have never really loved any of our meals. We keep hoping they will get better and they just don't. We were there this past Monday for A Christmas Carol. My father had the Turkey dinner and was surprised that it was "shredded" turkey instead of the sliced Turkey in the photos. It sort of felt like the last dregs and he ended up finding 4 bones in his turkey, which is just really unacceptable at that price point. My husband, who is a local chef, said that the pot roast was flavorful and tender, but was about a tiny 2 oz portion. Considering the cut of the meat, that's just ridiculous. There was literally more sautéed cabbage and celery chunks than anything else. He was incredibly disappointed- again, the price point. My Caesar salad was good. Dressing was good and zesty, and I even liked the schmear of herbed cream cheese under the salad. I didn't think I would. The best part of the meal was the potato leek soup. It was the best I have ever had and my husband makes a mean one. Also, the service was a bit chaotic. Servers came up to us multiple times with food and drink that was not ours. And didn't have our entire order all together. They really need to iron this out because it takes away from the experience of amazing actors and shows. In the Heights- amazing dancing but band drowned out the singers. Makes me wants to see this somewhere where I could actually enjoy the script. Energetic cast seems passionate and committed but band doesn't give them a chance... Also, place is packed and they don't check for vaccination information- Covid numbers are rising and hospitals stressed to the limit, but this place does seem to mind. Disappointing. What an adorable little dinner theater. I truly had a blast. I brought my Mother here to see Mama Mia. I thought the performances and the production value of the show was VERY strong. Other highlight: THE DRINKS! I learned from a cast member that they don't have a liquor license so they have to get a bit creative with their drink selections. I had a mule made with pear wine instead of the tradition vodka and it was SOO GOOD! I will be experimenting with pear wine and my Moscow mules at home now. They customize the menu to match the theme of the show, which I think is a great element. So everything on the menu for this trip was inspired by Mediterranean cuisine. I am cheap so I didn't go for the full dinner service. For people like me, they have the option high top seating in the back of the house. This seating offers drink and small plate service before the show and dessert service during intermission. In my opinion, this is the way to go. Had a great view of the stage from these seats. When I go back, and I will, I will probably skip the small plate service all together and just indulge into their awesome drink options. I found the food to just be...ok. Nothing to sing about...pun intended. Overall, one of the best dinner theater experiences I've had. Granted, the last time I went to a dinner theater it was a production of The Musical Man and a piece of the scenery fell on Marian Paroo's head. I enjoyed the Moon Over Buffalo play at the OCT in February 2022 and as we got there while appetizers were still being ordered but the window to order an entrée has closed, I ordered a BLT Caesar with lox. The bacon was perfectly crispied, served chilled, and the salad portion was generous. Best salad I've had at OCT to date.
