To my surprise, I was helped within five to ten minutes, which was impressive given how full the lobby was and that only a few staff members were assisting customers. The person who helped me was friendly, personable, and explained everything clearly. We even had a brief, pleasant chat about their dog, which made the whole experience unexpectedly enjoyable. That is not something I ever expect from a licensing office. I was there to get my Washington state registration, and the process was fast, smooth, and stress-free. Visited this Washington Department of Licensing location to register a new vehicle we recently purchased. We made the mistake of choosing to let an Oregon car dealership process our WA state licensing paperwork thinking it would be easier. We quickly learned our lesson and will opt to take care of it ourselves next time. A check was overnighted to us from the OR dealership, made out to WA DOL with instructions to bring it to a specific licensing location near our home. As we all know, any kind of DMV office is no picnic. We arrived at this licensing office, took a number, and waited an hour before being called. The lady that helped us was super nice and friendly. I wish I would have gotten her name. Anyhow, after entering all the pertinent information into her computer, she realized the dealership had made the check out for the incorrect amount. It was about $300 too much. Ugh, we had to contacts the dealership and have another check overnighted to us. Very frustrating, especially with all the helpful calculation tools available at the WA DOL website. The lady gave us a printout of the exact amount required to register our vehicle and get license plates. She was so apologetic and helpful, even though it was totally not her fault. Once we contacted the dealership and received the new check, we returned to the same licensing office. We were fortunate enough to get the same helpful lady, which made the process quick and painless. She remembered us too, which was nice. My only gripe about this location is how long it takes to be taken care of. It seemed like the closer it got to closing, the more we noticed employees emerging from the back room to help out. Not sure why they couldn't have come out sooner, but waiting an hour seems beyond reasonable. Both times we came here our number was about 15-20 numbers behind the one currently called. We also spent over an hour here during each visit. Overall, the employees here are very knowledgeable. If you're not in a hurry, I would highly recommend this licensing office. read more

They are knowledgeable, caring, just amazing people to deal with. I have gone in there on several occasions. Their customer service is impeccable. The DOL in Vancouver on 136th is horrible, they are not the most knowledgeable, not helpful in the titling department . You could not ask for worse service. Slower than the DMV. We walked in and took 92 with 67 being served. There were at least 4 people serving customers. After waiting about 45 minutes and they had only gotten to 77, we walked out. 2 of the numbers called had walked out already so they had only served 8 customers at that point. There seemed to be no urgency to deal with the amount of customers waiting for service. Seating was not very comfortable. read more

My grandma is in a giving mood. She just cut 2 of my teenagers a sweet deal. She gave them a 2004 Mazda SUV in exchange for 3 years of yard services. We had to put the car in MY name so I can insure both the teens. Grandma had just given my cousin a truck, so she drove us straight here. She knows the drill. We walked into a huge open room, looked at all the cool tin signs hanging on the longest wall(for sale of course) We pulled our # and sat down. We waited all of 5 minutes before our # came up. Very rude. Called to ask a general question about trailer registration. She kept interrupting me and treating me generally like I'm an idiot. Well, that is why I'm calling. Because I don't know. When I asked her why she's being so rude and short with me she replied with, "I'm not trying to be rude but I'm helping this customer!" Go somewhere else. These guys used to be the best, and until today I thought they still were. On February 28th I was in there to transfer the title of a vehicle, and after doing some paperwork I had to go through emissions and I was told "that's it". I asked about fees and the vehicle I was transferring was gifted so they told me there weren't any unless I wanted to pay to have it rushed. I waited the 6-8 weeks (obviously longer) and nothing came in the mail, so I went in today and the same girl that I dealt with the first time happened to call my number. I explained the situation and she called me a liar and said "I'd never have said that since it's illegal for you to be driving on those plates". I know I have received plates in the mail before and I KNOW what I heard the first time. Now not only did I have to pay the title transfer fee I was also hit with $125.00 "late fee" for transferring so late. Now I take pride in being legit and I would have saved that $125.00 if I would have known in the first place I would have gone back immediately to take care of it. She didn't care, she was very rude and didn't even apologize for any "lack of communication". I'm not an idiot and I know what she told me the first time. I'll NEVER suggest anyone utilize their services again. Don't waste your money. read more

I stopped here to get tabs for my truck because it is on my way to work. When I walked in I took a number and was third in line. While I waited 2 of the 4 clerks were on the phone talking to whom I assume were customers. This seems to be a important priority to the staff. I say this because I have been here before and have watched them answer the phone while customers are waiting. I have been here before when 8 to 10 people are in line in front of me and 2 or more of the staff are on the phone talking. Instead of asking the person calling to hold and wait their turn they spend other people's precious time answering questions from people who should probably come in to resolve their issues. When it was my turn to be helped the lady who I spoke to had me wait so she could again answer the phone. While renewing the license for my truck I asked why the people who call in get priority over those who actually take the time to come in person. The clerk looked at me and stated " we have to answer the phone, we don't have an answering machine". In fact she became indignant that I would even question their practice of interrupting service to walk in customers to stop and talk to someone on the phone. They don't ask the person to hold or perhaps call back at a slower time they will just stop and take your time to answer all of the callers questions while you sit and wait. I was told that perhaps I should renew my tabs on line and I wouldn't have to wait in line. Not once while waiting for service in their office have I heard them tell a caller that they could find the information they needed on line. Since I needed the tabs then and I thought the licensing office was there to handle this type of transaction I didn't even consider this. Perhaps the staff doesn't realize that they are providing a service for a fee which apparently is generating revenue to pay their wages. They probably also don't think they need to provide good customer service because if you have a car you have to use their business from time to time. Perhaps an employee that is assigned to answer the phones is in order here so the other staff can stay on task helping walk in customers. Perhaps an answering machine to take a message so they can call customers back when they have time. Maybe a phone system that can put the callers in cue to be answered when the staff is not helping customers in the office. Whomever is the owner or in charge of this licensing office needs to streamline the way they handle this problem. Again maybe they just don't care because the have a somewhat captive customer base. I don't expect them to reply to this review because it probably doesn't matter to them anyway. This however was the last time I will use their services. From this point on I will go to the other licensing office in my area that I have used before with better service. By the way I'm only posting 1 star because Yelp requires it. read more
