Orchard Place? Good luck. I had a brother-in-law who lived there after his needs grew to the point of benefiting from further help than home was able to give.
After prolonged time at Orchard Place, a noticeable difference in opinions could be seen. His opinions not only changed but seemed very delivered as if he had heard that "this is how he feels." A change in opinion or further grasping of concepts is to be expected as therapy ensues, however, theses "thoughts" did not ever seem to be original nor composed by my brother-in-law. Staff members told parts of my family that "maybe we shouldn't ask him" about ideas that contradicted these scripted answers. Accountability was relatively non-existent. Therapists were quick to take the words of an adolescent as absolute truths without so much as referring to his parents to assess a second account or opinion. Upon leaving Orchard Place, my brother-in-law was told to "sugar coat" his thought to his mother when dealing with executing legal matters as he had turned 18. A young adult who had just gained independency from a monitored housing unit regulating anything from meal time to medication dispersal and administration told him to "sugar coat" such details as to gain his mother's compliance. As a final side note, physical needs seemed to be unmet or un-required as he gained an excess of 50# without significant participation in a physical education forum. read more
