In fact, I'd say Downtown Sounds is the quintessential Bellingham experience. Held on multiple Wednesdays during the summer months, this free concert/street festival brings together the best our sweet city has to offer. And this year it got even better as the layout of the festival was flipped on its access, creating a larger beer garden (no more long lines!) with full view of the action on stage, plus a great food truck area with local yumminess like tacos, tamales, and ice cream. I had the pleasure of visiting Kulshan on their very first night of operation, which was a longggg time ago. At that time, the only other two major breweries in town had full kitchens and great menus, and Kulshan planned to only feature food trucks. I thought this was a horrible idea! Especially considering, at the time, there weren't all that many food trucks around. Well, I was wrong. Kulshan concentrated on making good beer, and serving it up with a friendly smile in their warm, inviting little space. Food trucks have come and gone over the years, but the beer has remained consistently amazing, the staff welcoming, and the space is almost exactly the same (with a couple of minor mods, including removing the dart board many moons ago). They've also since opened a second, larger location, adding "K2" and the Trackside Beer Garden to a list of what is now many, MANY breweries in the city. This is definitely a must-visit on any Bellingham beer pilgrimage. Thanks, Kulshan, for all those good beers over the years!

It's the only movie theater on Orcas island and one of the only 2 in rural San Juan County. The theater is small but the screen appears very large and the sound quality is good. This is a great resource for the community and for the tourists that visit. So have fun, pig on popcorn and support this community asset. The theater has some interesting village features. For instance there are no tickets. The lady at the booth, takes your cash and says "Thanks, come on in."

It's very much a small town movie theater that only shows Fridays and Saturdays and carries only one movie. In the summer they usually show two (early one for kids, late one for adults), but I'm not sure if that continues. The people who run the theater are very nice and there is plenty of room in the theater (which usually isn't crowded).
