The owner Art(junior) provided terrible customer service. I suspected that someone damaged my car literally infront of their store which had two of their security cameras right on it. I saw their camera system was up and running while they provided me with their contact information in the store front. They told me they would review the footage and get back to me later that night. Not hearing from them I called two days later, I was told their system had an issue and someone would come by and fix it and then they would get back to me. Not hearing from them I called three days later. Art, who claimed to be the owner, told me their camera system doesn't work and there is nothing they can do for me. I told him that their system looks new and that the cameras operated cause you can see the feed in the store, he very dismissively said no it doesn't work because it's old. I asked if they will fix their broken camera system and he told me maybe after this season. We shopped here twice and spent over $500 the day of the incident, we intended on using them with our lawn and garden over haul, easily several thousands of dollars. Generally rude, and the (white) guys at the counter rarely wear a mask -- even into the 9th Month of the coronavirus pandemic when 300,000 people have already died and Orange is a red hot spot on the map. Also generally get racist vibes there. You should be grateful someone walked into your empty store to June overpriced gardening items before a snow storm. The Latino guys who were working over the summer did wear masks. I do gardening all year round. I am one of the first people in the year buying supplies in March and one of the last people in December when it's still warm out. I was excited by the size of the location and thought it would be a winner but the plants weren't great, not a huge selection and oddly the white salesman upon my entering the store immediately placed himself in front of the door as of to watch me or prevent me from stealing a plant or some such thing. It was ridiculous. I did a quick walk through to see 1. Plants were in bad shape (rubber trees were severely diseased) and 3. Plants were super overpriced ($99 for a bird of paradise that is typically $50). I might have bought some pots but after the way the white guy profiled me I wouldn't spend 5 cents there. This is not the place for indoor plants. I have been to this garden center a few times as I really prefer to support local businesses over big box stores, but I have been v disappointed by their indoor plant selection. The summer the indoor plant selection is a little bigger than the off-szn, but that is not saying too much. The indoor plants that are kept inside I have found to be seriously overpriced. It does seem that they have a good selection of outdoor plants/trees/shrubs. Overall, not impressed. I did give it a few visits to ensure I didn't just pop in on an off day. I was looking to start a (larger) garden (some may say crazy) the size around 100 sq. ft. Ordering and delivery was VERY SIMPLE. They guided me through the process, and deliver was made NEXT DAY. The delivery driver (Alex) was very accommodating, polite, and I want to give him a shout out for being such an efficient professional at his job. Would order from this place AGAIN and AGAIN. I came here looking for some grasses, succulents, and various perennials to fill in some areas in the garden (mostly for ground cover.) I had purchased some ornamental grasses and succulents that did really well over the winter, and came back hoping for the same. The store had a nice selection of sedum and assorted semps for sale. It was hard not to go crazy and buy their entire stock. I was also able to buy some of the grasses that I wanted. They also had some very unusual herbs this year. Another bonus for repeat customers is that they had a weekly email special - a free bag of potting soil with a purchase of $75 or more. As an alternative, you can receive 10% off with a check in. To get a sense of their stock, they suggest that you check their Facebook page, which is updated regularly. Although there isn't a parking lot, it is fairly easy to park on the street near the store and you can pull your up. One of the staff helped me place all of my plants in the car and put plastic in my trunk and backseat so that dirt wouldn't ruin my freshly cleaned car, without me even asking, which was very nice and appreciated. I have three minimal complaints: (1) The staff knows less about plants in comparison to other garden stores in the area; (2) Some of the aisles are very narrow which makes it very difficult to navigate carts once they have plants on them; (3) Some plants are not labeled. read more

My mother and I separately bought Groupon vouchers and decided to check out the center. This place has a great selection of flowers, shrubs, and vegetables, but all very overpriced. Even with our vouchers, we were only able to get a handful of plants. I would've rather gone to the Home Depot done the street for a better deal. What turned me off most of this place was the customer service of their employees and owners. When my mother and I were walking in, someone who seemed like a manager was literally screaming orders at his employees in such a negative tone. I wouldn't want to work for him. He continued to walk the grounds on his phone screaming again to whomever. It just didn't give me a good vibe, and it continued at checkout. The rules for the Groupon voucher state "Limit 1 per person. Limit 1 per visit." Both my mother and I have separate Groupon accounts, so we didn't think this would be an issue. She'd pay for one cart, and I'd pay for the other. We are both separate customers. The employee behind the register, the angry manger from before, and another angry woman employee were up in arms about the whole ordeal, giving us a very difficult time. In the end, they accepted our vouchers, but not without a bunch of huffing and puffing and rolling eyes. The woman employee told me, " We're losing money because of this! We put these vouchers on Groupon to get people to come to our center." I couldn't believe she was upset that we were using vouchers THEY placed online! Overpriced and poor customer service. I bought 5 Grandiflorum Catawba Rhododendron at a price of $48 each in July of 2018. Its October 7 and all 5 are dead as a doornail almost a month ago. $250 worth of plants all DEAD!!! Why? Bad quality and the nursery will not guarantee what they sell. The supplier Monrovia will NOT stand behind their product either - but wait, same supplier sells the same product to Lowe's and they are warrantied for 1 year. The best part you ask? Lowe's sells the same plants for under $20 vs. $50 at this nursery. I wrote an email to Monrovia and they responded back - threw the "book at me" stating all the possible reasons they could have died as a result of my neglect. Was bad product a plausible cause in their lengthy email? Of course not. Does the nursery stand behind its plants and offer exchange (not refund), not a chance. Last time I buy local - and from this nursery. Waiting for spring and will buy from Home Depot or Lowe's for half the price and ....wait for it, a guarantee of 1 year. This nursery also sold me $15 worth soil conditioner, like that did me any good. Which by the way is $4 in Home Depot. If you want peace of mind and quality products and plants that actually stand a chance to thrive in your home garden, Stay Away from this brand and this nursery. Pictures included.... read more

Furious! I Called to make sure they had the plant I was looking for and someone clearly stated that they had three. I Uber there to find out no one knew what kind of plant I was talking about and each one was a bit flippant and passing the buck. They seemed like they didn't want to be bothered and while they "entertained" my questions, I just didn't feel welcomed or like they valued my business. Extremely rude service. Experience is lacking. I have never written a bad review for a business because I believe in thriving local stores. But I am truly appalled and disappointed by their service and lack of empathy especially so when we are all apart of the same community. We spent a couple of hundreds of dollars on plants there, and when we back to our car, our car door was damaged as if hit by a hard appliance, nursery carts or wagon. Our car was parked where there were TWO cameras flanked on either side of the store. We asked for help - if they could look at the cameras at their store but they refused to. They took a look at the damage and they were indifferent. Said "Not Us." Upon calling several times thereafter, they brushed our issue aside and bluntly told us that their cameras are broken. We phoned back and asked politely to speak with the owner. We had the intention of ironing things out pleasantly; to find a middle ground and was told, coldly: "There's nothing I can do for you." What a hidden gem! The last thing I would expect in this not-so-nice Orange neighborhood is this gorgeous, sprawling garden center. This place has an incredible selection of flowering and non-flowering plants, succulents, trees, shrubs, and other foliage as well as some beautiful, artistic pottery and other planting containers. The staff is super friendly and will chat you up about just about anything -- including World Cup soccer! My kinda place! The prices are pretty standard for the area, but there are sale items scattered throughout the plant section. Although we only purchased plants, they also have a huge pile of mulch, plenty of soil types, and other fertile ground, which you can have delivered instead of lugging to your car and dirtying up the trunk/back seat. Customer service from the guy in the front (manager I think?) was lacking and rude. I told my cashier about a promotion I participated in on their Facebook and he denied it without checking. The guys working outside where the flowers are were much more helpful and friendly. I've been there a few times and the guys in the back always come up to you asking if you want help. If you know what you're looking for this place is good considering prices and the selection is nice - has all the basics plus a few more. If you're a novice, like me, and looking for help picking plants don't bother with the managers and go talk to the guys outside instead. read more

Horrible customer service. The guy who works behind the counter, has no business being in a customer service position. I've been going on and off to an Orange Garden Center for the last five or six years. Every time I go the guy behind the counter seems to have a Horrible attitude. Ordered $800 worth of mulch to be delivered to my house. He told me that it would be delivered early morning or latest mid morning when I called at around 10:30 AM. He said it would be right before lunch and that was still considered mid morning. I don't know what world he lives in to me lunch time is "mid day", and then he insisted that everything was fine and proceeded to try and rush me off the phone and hang up the phone without any type of apology for the lateness, even though I had a guys standing around that I was paying by the hour, waiting for the mulch delivery, never again!! give your money to somebody else there's many other places that will appreciate your business and money read more

It's not often I write a negative review but because of the experience and lesson learned, I am compelled to do so. So fall rolls around! A wonderful time of the year when nature surrounds us with such exquisite art full of vibrant colors in all shapes, forms and sizes! As always, I wanted to get the biggest, fullest, riches mums I could find. And when my hubby suggested Home Depot I immediately dismissed the notion and instead insisted we come here. I saw some really pretty mums and asked a sales assistance for some guidance. I wanted some that would last the season particular since I wasn't looking to pinch a penny. He suggested some closed ones and advised they would open in a week. Fast forward 2weeks later and the $45 each un-blossomed mums just looked sad. When we tried to take them back, we were told it was our fault because we didn't put them in direct sunlight.... Ummm really? And this poor deduction was made with or without a crystal ball? I'm sorry, my front yard and porch (uncovered) stands in DIRECT sunlight. I watered them according to their directions. I am left saddened and embarrassed because I thought to shop at a local nursery because I like to patronize local businesses over big conglomerates for obvious reasons. Unfortunately I will not return to this local nursery and opt instead to shop at a store that backs the products they sell. The East Hanover Home Depot has very large beautiful mums at half of the cost and a retune policy that ensures their customers will return. read more

We have been coming here for Years and both my mother and I had a Living Social Deal and Groupon deal tw9 separate people with separate purchases and the guy had the worst and nastiest attitude I ever seen. I almost wanted punch this guy in the face it was that bad but I was calm and said fine we will use one on the vouchers and paid for the rest of my mother's plants. There are plenty of great places with quality plants and way better manners and customer service. They just lost a customer for life and we spent plenty of money there over the years with my mother being a serious plant lover this time of year. Just left this awesome urbane garden oasis! I was able to get most of the ground covering I needed and the plants were in GREAT condition! The size of the creeping Jenny was drool worthy(so of course I had to get 4). Yes the prices may seem a tad high but for the size and condition of the plants I probably would have paid more else where. I am definitely coming back for more! And they give you plastic to protect your seats! The entire process from arrival to departure was pleasant. They don't hover over you, if you need to ask a question they are readily available. read more

So, I bought the wrong plants. - Would not give money back, even so I discovered it within an hour of buying the wrong plants, and kept finding reasons for not giving store credit. - Told me I can exchange the plants and then advised me 2 times incorrectly that the plants I needed would come in during a specific week. I had to pack the old plants and drive there each time. During 3rd trip I learned that they never had those plants planned to come in in the first place!! - Prices high, bad service, wrong expert advise,... I do not see the added value. The only reason it is lacking a star is because of location, and that is subjective. I have been wanting to come here for awhile, always on the lookout for a good garden center, this one came up on Groupon. I did not buy the Groupon only because I was not sure if I would like the selection of greenery. Arrived, and was more than pleasantly surprised at the selection of flowers, shrubs and trees of all stages of growth. I immediately purchased a Yelp deal $10 for a $20 voucher. I bought 2 Canna Lillies, priced at $19.99 each, comparable to other places, but these were big beautiful hardy plants, well taken care of, and ready to be transplanted. The owner, I think her name was Debbie, gave me lots of info on the care and winter storage for the plants. Another worker, showed us all throughout the trees in various stages of development, all beautiful and again well cared for. We fell in love with the selection of Japanese Maple trees all ranging in price from $200 to a fully mature tree at $2500. You could tell that he had great pride in this place , he said he had been working here for more than 10 years! Everyone there was so helpful and nice. Coming from Montclair, I took a bike ride here for some organic soil to grow my vegetables in. The location is great, nice neighborhood. The place is easy to find and they have great choices for soil and stone, there are live plants everywhere, seeds and even more. The people here are great, nice, friendly, knowledgeable. I found exactly what I needed and was in and out in less than 10 mins. One employee helped to properly and safely fit the bag of soil into the bikes large crate I have secured on my rear wheel bike rack. Great experience, they saved me a few bucks, great people, great products. Will be back! read more
