Chuck the owner came out to look at my gate which was not completely closing. This company no longer has someone that works on gates, as they did in the past. However, Chuck when out of his way, and spent about a half hour fixing a wire on my gate, that had no contact due to corrosion. He fix the wire and did this repair for FREE!!! The price seemed way out of line for parts and labor. I called Orange County Overhead Door and they quoted me $350 parts and labor and a tech was at home within 2 hours. Tech was knowledgeable, courteous and started working right away. What a mistake and a waste of time it was to call the other company. These guys are dishonest. They gave me a price range over the telephone, then the repair person came with an invoice with the higher price written in before he even saw what was to be repaired. Then he added a metal bracket to the repair and said he would only charge me $100 extra for the bracket!!! (The bracket probably cost around $7). Things started out well when I spoke with Charlie - he clearly knew what he was talking about and was able to point me in the right direction with my custom door request. But things went downhill from there. Charlie was supposed to check with the manufacturer on something and get back to me and that's where it got difficult. I'm not sure if someone was on vacation or what but it took weeks to get someone to call me back and each time there were delays in speaking with who had the answers I needed. This was frustrating but I wasn't in a hurry and they were at least very nice. For me the straw that broke the camel's back: - I had received a slightly lower quote from another vendor but wanted to use OCOD as they seemed nicer over the phone. I asked if they could throw in a MyQ gateway to get the price similar to the other vendor. They said they weren't flexible at all on the price which surprised me a bit since this was a cheap item and they could have easily won my business. - They asked that I send them a check for the deposit and that they did not accept credit cards. For me this was just too much, I don't have much patience for companies who rely on antiquated technologies like the mail and checks - unless there's good reason or big savings to do so. I called George at All County Garage Doors the next day and ended up using his services and was able to get a better door for significantly less money. read more
