To give some background, I was offered a job through a huge asphalt and paving company here in southern California that required me to have a CDL with all endorsements. Naturally, I went to the DMV took care of all the written tests on my own, studied, and passed first try. I had to take a class C, class M1, then all the tests required for the CDL with all endorsements (I think it came out to 8 tests total). Next was picking a truck driving school, and learning how to inspect the truck inside and out, and learn to operate and maneuver it. I had no clue what I was doing here, and someone suggested Americas Truck Driving school in Riverside, CA. I went to them, signed up for the program and $2400 dollars later, realized I had made a HUGE mistake. One of those "oh $*&T" moments. I learned ABSOLUTELY nothing, was completely frustrated. It was a joke to allow themselves to be called a school. ON TO THE GOOD I contacted Chris at OC CDL, and it took a few tries to get in contact with each other, but if you're patient and understand they are a small family business, you will get a call back or email. I explained my situation and he fully understood what I was going through, so he offered me the opportunity to come learn through his program, and it was the best money spent to date. Chris and Danny teach what needs to be known for the testing situation, but more importantly, the actually teach you why things are done, how they are used in the real world, and teach it in a way that just really keeps things as simple as possible. I had my permit for about 8 months when I contacted OC CDL due to the fact I felt i was not receiving the proper knowledge I needed to pass the dmv test from my "on the job training" That being said I have a insane schedule as I do travel often for work. Before you waste money at a different school, give Orange County CDL a call! I passed after one day of training and on my first try (I have no prior experience driving a rig). They have a GREAT training system that makes it easy to learn things about the truck to pass the test. And better yet, their price point is competitive! I HIGHLY recommend to come prepared with self-study and an understanding of basic skill maneuvers. This way you can use your time more efficiently. They will provide you with a study packet for the pre trip tests and you can look up on YouTube to understand some tips and tricks about skill maneuvers. Also, if you don't know how to drive a manual transmission I would recommend you learn before going to school! I had Danny training me and he made me feel super comfortable and he wanted to help me with whatever I wanted to improve on. I had checked out numerous trucking schools and alternatives, all of which were overpriced and required many weeks of schooling. As I read reviews on yelp for OC CDL truck rental it was pretty hard to believe. Honestly Chris is the guy to go to for training hands down. This guy was fantastic, he got straight to the point. He will not be wasting your time so don't waste his. The Freightliner is not difficult to drive at all, you just need hands on that's it. I paid additional time which was not bad at all, price was reasonable. Once driving this truck you will get use too it. Everything that the DMV expects for the Air Brake Test, Pre Trip Inspection, Skill Test, and Driving portion. Do not worry Chris explains it step by step but one thing is for sure that you need to do is study and like he said "study that packets like its nones business." You will pass if you pay attention and study and take the advice that Chris gives you. I'm happy to say that I passed my Air Brake Test, Pre Trip Inspection, Skill Test, and on the road. The only thing that sucks is that Fullerton DMV kept my license until I get my A in two weeks. They will give you a permit to hold on too until you received your license A. I would like to personally thank Chris for his effort in assisting obtain a CDL. I did not have any experience driving a truck and Chris explain to me in details in actual driving and passing the test. On the first day I was a completely lost and frustrated backing up a truck. I passed my driving test today first attempt! All thanks go to Chris very knowledgeable dude broke it down in a few sentences and it just made sense not gunna lie I was a little nerves but everything went smooth I got 45 point 10 more than needed on my Incab passed all air breaks tests and also the examiner said I got all points on my outside inspection. I was a bit skeptical to try this at first because it seemed too good to be true since it had a 5 star rating, but I still decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did because everything went well the first try. For those of you interested in taking his course be aware this is not a school, more of a crash course. You do have to obtain your permit on your own before hand, then contact Chris, he will schedule the test appointment for you. Ether Arleta DMV or San Bernardino I believe are your only two options. You do get to practice in Orange County, but the test has to be performed in those two cities. The reason I said it's not a school because he gives you all the information needed to pass the test in advance. From there, it's up to you to study the material & go over it on the day you practice with Chris. Honestly, I practiced driving stick with my cousin for about twenty minutes & that's it! I have never driven stick in my life, but if you get the concept down, it's not impossible. Not telling Chris, afraid he would turn me down because I would probably damage the truck; I went for it anyway & I did pretty well (I think?). The truck is small enough for anyone to learn on it and relatively easy. If I remember correctly the truck has about 6 or 7 gears. You will train with him on a set day for about six hours & take the test at the DMV a few days later. Chris was very open & helpful. He will tell you everything you need to pass, it will be up to you to remember everything. After dealing with another company (named after a peanut butter) i was very dejected. Thought i would be dealing with another A hole that was out to take your money and teach you nothing. So with that being said the complete opposite happen. I got way more bang for my buck and now i have my class A. Quite easily with the help of Chris.
