Oddly they kept turning away walk-Ins after 8:15 pm, saying all tables were taken, even though there were a couple of tables available. Perhaps they were understaffed and the kitchen was overwhelmed? With everything in Ullapool seemingly overpriced, I think we will stick with the chippy down the street.

My husband is in the same boat on not having tried the traditional haggis, but also liked the veggie haggis. The veggie haggis is vegetarian and, if the butter sauce is omitted, it appears that it can be made vegan (butter sauce is egg-free). The porridge appears to be vegan by default, and the soup of the day for today sounded like it was also vegan or at least vegetarian (vegetables and coconut). The burgers and rolls are meant to be eaten there, and are handed to you partially wrapped in a napkin and a small paper bag that you could open and put the burger in if you needed to transport it, but it is just paper and the grease/oil would eventually make it's way through. They have wooden disposable utensils as well. Great food truck, and a nice place to stop for a view and a bite :) Thank you for having vegetarian options!

Among the few is the Kilmartin. It's a modest and plain cafe that's connected to the community center in Staffin. I wouldn't say it qualifies as four-star dining, but given the lack of choices, it got the job done and we were happy to have it available after our Quiraing adventure. We had lunch plates with sandwiches (smoked salmon for me), salad, and chips. Pretty basic, but everything seemed fresh. The cafe has giant picture windows that provides plentiful natural light, but given the generally spectacular and even surreal scenery on the Trotternish Peninsula, the views here are merely pleasant. Call it 3.5 stars

I had the fish 'n chips and was informed the come two ways....the regular way and then with breadcrumbs. I asked the server which he preferred and he said with breadcrumbs, so that's what I ordered. Oh my, they were delicious! The fries were so good too. Nothing was greasy. It came with a small side of mushy peas and I could've had a whole plate of those but with the huge generous portion of fish I got, I couldn't even finish the second fish let alone having more mushy peas. My husband ordered the mussels and they were plump, juicy and large. I don't know how many he got but there were a lot of mussels! I'm wanting to say probably 20 or maybe even more. He said they were amazing, and they were served in a tin bucket which was pretty cool....the lid served as a perfect receptacle for the empty shells. We shared a sticky toffee pudding at the end which was incredible. The service was wonderful and friendly so we highly recommend this place!

We've ordered the fried fish wrap, the seafood bowl and some fresh oysters. We actually wanted also some langoustines like last time. But since the menu is always a bit changing and depending on the catch, this time this option wasn't available. But there were some of them in the mixed seafood bowl. Also some herring, salmon, seafood dip and salad was in the delicous bowl. The fried fish wrap was excellent as well. Fresh cod, nicely fried. Crispy outside and nice, fresh and tender inside. Good stuff. And now for the highlight: The Oysters. We've had oysters in the Normandy (France), Spain, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, Japan, Australia, the US and in many other places. In several spots in England and Scotland as well. And these here were so far the best we've ever had! Fresh flavours of the sea, nicely sized, very sweet, smooth and creamy. Excellent oysters - almost drove three hours back the next day just to get some more. -But an altogether six-hour drive was a bit too much in the end. Hopefully next time around the oysters will be as great as this time. This time the weather was pretty cold and it was a bit rainy at times. So it was easy to get a table - even got one under the tent. Last time it was warm and sunny, but hard to get a seat and there was a long line. This time it was all easy, an advantage of this kind of weather which we didn't mind at all. A really really great place to grab some fantastic seafood items. We definitely will be back.
