It did live up to it's claim - we truly enjoyed every minute we were there - through rain, drizzle & sunshine (they say you can experience all 4 seasons in one day here!). Although it's fairly remote, it does have amenities such as a lovely cafe, art gallery, plant & gift shop, visitor center; all worth visiting as well as a tour of the beautifully furnished house. Tours of the garden itself are also offered, although we opted to take a boat ride on the loch and attend a rock gardening class instead. We caught the early boat ride at high tide, as the sun was shining. The skipper Jamie was absolutely delightful, showing us crabs caught in a few creels & sharing knowledge & history about the wildlife in the area. So fun being out on the water. As luck would have it, the Rock Gardening Society of Scotland was there that week for the Scottish Rock Garden Festival - celebrating the start of their new extensive rock garden. The members were so friendly & gave a fantastic demonstration on how to build your own rock garden. They are artisan masters of their craft. A walk through the Inverewe house itself was marvelous, too - setting the mood for how the owners lived and how inspired there were by their garden. I especially loved the library with the writing desk over-looking the garden & loch through a giant bay window. Furnishings & design included mid-20th century details - excellent curation! From there, we stopped to meet the current artist in residence, David Sandum, a brilliant & thoughtful artist of the natural world. Last stop was at the cafe for a coffee & treat. Inverewe was one of the highlights of our trip - wish we lived closer to return for the upcoming events. Great place to spend a day!

I spent a long while in Dornie. Most of my time in the Highlands, I stayed at the Schoolhouse…read more You wouldn't believe how accommodating and pleasant everyone is here. The owner runs the tearoom and B&B and has a few helpers here and there. There are I believe, 4 room options. Two of the rooms can accommodate small families and the others are very quaint, perfect for a couple. All of the rooms have their own bathrooms, and are extremely spacious. I stayed in the room upstairs, I believe it was Room 4, and it had a queen bed and a twin bed with the best bathroom ever! What's great about this B&B, is that you can bring your own groceries in (and purchase them down the street at the local shop), and the owner provides a big kitchen all exclusively for her guests. Some people may not like this, as they expect prepared food service. But the woman who works there provides milk, cereal, bread and butter AND she has the tearoom connected to the B&B. The scones are all homemade by her, which are to die for, and has the best pastries I've ever had. They also have a barista there as well. The coffee is sublime and nothing like what people have these days. She grinds the coffee beans and has plenty of options for the perfect cuppa jo. There are also tons of options to choose from as far as tea goes as well! Once you have all of your necessities for your day, if the weather permits, you can sit out on the front of the property, and enjoy the scenic view of the loch. Along with the tearoom, joint with it is a gallery. The owner loves to showcase other artists from around Scotland and sell their work in the gallery. Please have a look at her website and see what there is to offer! She is also on facebook! The price is a smidge high for a stay, but you won't regret it and it's the best price for the area you'll be in. You are literally a 7 minute walk from Eileen Donan Castle and an even shorter walk to the Clachan (Dornie's adorable little pub). I could go on for about 5 more pages on why this is the best B&B in that area but I won't. If you're visiting the castle or just making a pit stop in Dornie, please go to the Schoolhouse Dornie!

You will be greeted by THE most bubbly and enthusiatic woman, ever! It was done so the porch and first room u enter has a shop to buy things and a room to your left and right full of toys. It was very cosy and well set out. She asked if we'd been before, which we hadnt ,so she took us through to the OLD room and gave a superb demo of most of the toys. The kids loved it!As did we! Though it';s a musuem, you are allowed to play with alot of the toys. It was great fun. We then went to the other room to see the more modern things. It was fun my for me and my hubby and friend. All our toys we had growing up. It was a nice trip down memory lane! and kids had a blast there too. I believe there was bad fire there a few years back, they have done fantastically well to get the museum back up and running ;o) Def rec'md if you're at a loose end with the kids.

The museum consists of two main rooms - one with older toys (china dolls for example) and the other with newer items (think plastic!) including some you might remember playing with yourself (Sindy dolls anyone?). The rooms are connected via a small shop selling a mixture of hand-crafted and novelty items. The owner gives a guided tour and demonstrates many of the exhibits and there is a light-hearted and often hilarious atmosphere as visitors rediscover their favourites. Highly recommended!
