After a review on chow Detroit asking the community to support Struggling Sylvan Lake Mexican Restaurant, I decided to do just that. I stopped in and asked how long a carryout order would take. I was told 20-25 minutes, so I ordered two shrimp tacos, two chicken tacos, and a chicken pizza. I let them know I would wait in my car and asked them to call me when my order was ready. After waiting 30 minutes without a call, I went back inside and noticed several tables that had been seated after I placed my order had already received their food. I asked the gentleman at the register about my order, and after checking, he told me it was only halfway done. I asked how much longer it would be, and after checking again, he said about another eight minutes. While I was waiting, yet another table that had arrived well after I placed my order was served. I mentioned to the waitress that this didn't seem right, and her response was simply, "That's just how long it takes." I explained that if carryout was actually going to take 45 minutes, I should have been told that upfront. I would never have chosen to wait that long. What disappointed me most wasn't just the delay--it was the lack of communication and the lack of concern. A sincere apology or an honest update would have gone a long way. I genuinely wanted to support a local business that was asking for community support, but unfortunately, based on this experience, I won't be returning. read more

This place is small and quaint with a simple menu of excellent food served by friendly and attentive staff. I've been here three times and it has always been good, especially the salsa, but the food preparation times are slow. The first time I was there, I just assumed it was because they had recently opened, but it seems to just be consistently slow. Something to be aware of if you are used to traditional taqueria speeds. They seem to be aware of this and I will give them the benefit of assuming it has something to do with the quality of the food. Give it time and it will be well worth the wait. read more

I tried Órale for the first time recently and picked up dinner--and honestly, I was impressed. The food was super fresh and flavorful, and I'm already thinking this might be my new go-to spot for Halal Mexican. We ordered the chicken quesadillas and birria tacos. I really appreciate that everything on the menu is made with halal meat, so I didn't have to second-guess what I could order. One thing to keep in mind: since everything is made fresh, it does take a bit of time to get your food. But it's absolutely worth the wait. You can taste the difference--nothing felt greasy or heavy, and the salsa especially tasted like it was just made. Even after eating, I didn't feel bloated, which isn't always the case with quesadillas or tacos. If you're into spicy food, just a heads-up: the spice level was on the milder side. I'm guessing they tone it down a bit for a wider crowd, but you can always ask for extra heat or add your own hot sauce. Definitely planning to come back soon! read more

We wanted to love it but so disappointed. I hate to even review this but owners please audit your menu. Quality of the food was super underwhelming and expensive for what it is. Maybe we ordered the wrong things but the food felt processed / bagged with canned nacho cheese on the nachos with chips store bought. After living in Southern California and traveling all over Mexico this makes me want chipotle vs the $78 (before tip) dinner we spent here for 2 cokes, 2 burritos, soup, quac and nachos. I just tried this place for the first time today! I'm really blown away by the consistent high quality and good taste of all the dishes my family and I enjoyed today. We got the shrimp, steak, and chicken tacos, as well as chicken and birria quesadillas. We also ordered the Mexican pizza along with the guacamole and chips. The guacamole was delicious!!!!!!!!!!! The chips were yummy, a little on the oily side which I personally enjoy. The portions were generous, as well as that the tacos were filled with good quantities of the meats. After several attempts to try this place we finally made it here. They don't open until around 4pm and we were always early. Orale is a new Mexican restaurant located in the Keego Harbor/Sylvan lake area on Orchard Lake Rd in a small strip mall west of Middlebelt. It's a relatively small business, maybe ten tables max for seating, and easy to miss unless you are looking for it. Size aside, this business packs an overweight punch when it comes to serving up good authentic Mexican food. For our first meal here we ordered the Chicken Fajita and Chicken Quesadilla entree's. Both entrees were well made and tasty where in particular the Fajita platter onions/peppers were sautéed to perfection versus the the normal overcooked veggies you typically see in many other Mexican restaurants. As a small gripe, I would have liked a bit more seasoning on my Chicken fajita's to take the platter taste to the next level but realize the difficulty this presents to a business trying to find a common ground that meets all their customers palates. Aside from the main entrees, I thought the chips and salsa were quite good and loved the bean side with my fajita's. Overall, we were quite pleased with our food where Orale is a great new addition to the Keego/Sylvan area and should not be missed if you are a fan of well made Mexican food. read more

Keego has a new Mexican - and it is authentic, not fringe food. This is a 4.5 star review. Minus half a star because the guy working the POS is slooow to enter orders, and then the kitchen has to come out and ask basic questions about the order. I anticipate that this will resolve itself over time. I ordered three Al Pastor tacos for dine-in. Chips and four different salsa were promptly delivered. They were all excellent. Great flavors, textures and thickness. The tacos were large-ish with generous portions of ingredients and the flavors were excellent - the best I have had in SE Michigan. They are not inexpensive $11.something before tip, but I will order them again. There is also a $10 lunch special: two tacos, beans, rice and water. Will I return? Yes! The owner was very nice and accommodating. The restaurant was very clean and quiet due a Thursday evening. The food was simply awesome. These were the best enchiladas I've had. They were filled with meat, not just cheeses. Had the perfect amount of sauce that allowed you to soak up every last drop with the three enchiladas you received, they were not drenched or dry like some places like to serve you. My wife and I just finished our meal.. the owner, Darryl, was so kind and accommodating to us as this was our first time in. He shared how the food is cooked fresh, and with those expectations, the flavor of the food exceeded all expectations. My wife had the Mexican Pizza ($2 off on Sunday btw!) and we've never had a Mexican Pizza melt in our mouths like this did. Full of flavor, this pizza was inexpensive and delicious. The quality of the meat was unmatched. I had 3 tacos; Al Pastor, Fried Fish, and Asada. These tacos were filled and had great taste. I was especially impressed by the fried fish. It wasn't buttery or oily, it was flaky and savory. I'm a bigger guy too and 3 tacos were enough! Overall, my wife and I cannot wait to come again and try new things. We need to remember that when new businesses open, we need to give them a second and third chance once they get all their gears rolling. I'm sorry we waited so long to come back because we just had some really wonderful food from Oracle. Authentic Mexican, all the way. The cheese enchiladas with green sauce were amazing. Try the quesadillas (we had the beef)....Wow! Portions were generous and food was prepared fresh and delicious. The refried beans, the rice and all the trimmings were first rate. Been meaning to put up this update. Happy to say this place is as good as ever! Also was happy to see at a recent dinner with my wife that the place was completely full at dinner. Looks like more people have discovered this gem. We started with a generous sized appetizer of guac which was terrific as were the chips. I had a grilled chicken burrito and my wife ordered a shrimp burrito which she requested be made without rice and without seasoning on the shrimp and it was made perfectly. Word of advice for first timers....the price on the burritos are higher than you will see at any other Mexican restaurant BUT, they are that good AND they are huge. Two "normal" eaters can easily split a burrito. With the guac we had even I didn't finish my burrito and I virtually NEVER leave food on my plate. I did save room to try the key lime pie. I don't know if that is house made but it was really good! Service was great too. We had a very nice young man who stopped by constantly to make sure we didn't need anything else. read more

We love mom and pop places, because they always have the best food, and this place is no different. The waitress brought out chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. The chips were hot and the salsa was delicious. The horchata was fresh and very delicious. We then ordered an XL ceviche orale and if didn't disappoint. It was huge and fresh, and very flavorful. It's hard to find great ceviche, and this was something we would definitely come back for. We also ordered guacamole and it was good. We can't wait to come back after lent and try their meat dishes. If I could give zero, I would. Any Mexican restaurant that sells store bought hard corn shells that's not Taco Bell gets a zero automatically. Ordered Togo on Saturday night, got steak fajitas, with a side of guacamole instead of rice and beans and soft corn shells instead of flour. Got home to zero guacamole and a Togo box of store bought hard corn shells. My husband got Birria quesadilla and they didn't put in the consommé. Well not be coming back since it was almost 70 bucks. Yesterday evening I ordered 1 quesabirria taco and 2 shredded chicken taquitos dorados w/ rice and beans. I enjoyed the consume for the quesabirria taco and the meat had a really good flavor, but the taco itself needed more oaxaca or meunster cheese. I didn't taste or see any. My taquitos had a good crunch and the crema and salsa were good, but one of my taquitos was visibly burnt and the chicken was bland. The rice was also bland. These items definitely needed more garlic and cumino (the cumino seeds mashed in a molcajete; not the powdered kind). The beans were amazing though. Overall a mixed bag. I'd try one more time to see if it was an off day or what. read more

As a Latina I very much enjoy trying out all Mexican restaurants. I am more then happy to supporting small businesses. I ordered 2 asada tacos and asada nachos. First, both of my tacos where very greasy. In addition, an "Authentic Mexican Restaurant" would always provide salsa for your tacos. The tacos where dry as can be! The asada was bland with no flavor. I ended throwing the tacos away! Finally, the no his where just horrible! The nachos were a pile of mush. The chips where extremely soggy and everything is just gross! I was quite shocked that all topping for the nachos where 1 dollar each (tomatoes, lettuce. Onion, jalapeños..etc). I decide to go ahead and add topping to my nachos ( as you can see in the image). Upon receiving my food the bag weighed about a pound? In the bag there where no utensils, nor napkins . For the 40 dollars plus tip. I expected the best! Specially for 2 of the simplest foods to prepare. I am extremely disappointed in this place. read more

Good service and great staff. Food is great as well, however they make the dishes fresh with limited kitchen staff so be patient! The biggest issue/concern are the patrons who can become downright rude and arrogant. Unfortunately many of these impatient folks expect same time frame for food service as collecting via a fast food drive thru. The " I am important" culture combined with impatient rich complaining may become cumbersome but never takes away from the bright personalities of the service staff. However, once the fajitas and tacos arrive, all the troubles are forgotten. Bring patience and a healthy appetite and you won't be disappointed. One particular customer, many of us refer to him as Gordo, often visits and is very entertaining. He is always making snide remarks about other patrons and their families in Spanish not realizing some of us understand him. You can't miss him, about 300 lbs, looks like an extra in a movie about Pancho Villa except with basketball shorts, a sweaty t-shirt, and greasy hair...LoL. read more

Had dinner here this evening for our family of 4 and I have to say that it was absolutely delicious!!! I was worried that another Latin establishment would have a hard time here in this area because there are a few within a few mile radius but definitely don't need to worry about that... Portions were massive, the burrito had to be 3-4 lbs and I'm picky about my rice and beans, this was tender and full of flavor. This place is a winner for sure! Loved our first time at Orale. My daughter loved her steak tacos and orange Fanta. I really enjoyed my taquitos dorados with shredded chicken. The presentation and taste were wonderful. We finished off our meal sharing a chocolate flan. It was a great casual dining experience with Kimberly as our waitress. Seems to have a lot of great carry out business, too.
