Had empanadas all over the world. These were the best I've ever had. We will return every time we are in San Juan

Absolutely the best empanada I've ever had... the most unique and meat packed to the brim.

AMBIANCE Parking: Old San Juan rules--come early or be ready to walk. Seating: Multiple seating areas for individuals and small groups but it's also a cafe too so there is seating in the back too. Vibes: Clean, modern café with a mix of locals and tourists. You can tell people come here for the coffee, not just to pass through. It leans more intentional and coffee-focused rather than just aesthetic--which I appreciated. FOOD / DRINKS Coquito Frap (Recommend) When in Puerto Rico, Coquito. Creamy, coconut-forward, and lightly spiced--like a frozen coquito with a coffee twist. Sweet, smooth, and definitely more of a dessert drink than a regular latte. CUSTOMER SERVICE Friendly and efficient. Even with a crowd, things moved quickly. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Solid spot. Great drink options at a reasonable price. They know what they're doing. Whether you're a coffee person or just need a reset, this place delivers. Salute to the Munoz family for sharing their coffee to the world! TIPS * Try their house coffee if you want the full experience--that's what they're known for.

We loved it so much we actually went twice during our trip - and even made a final stop before heading to the airport to go home. On our first visit, Hector (the roaster) happened to be there, which made the experience feel even more special. The staff overall were all so kind and attentive. The coffee is absolutely excellent - velvety smooth, rich, and delicious. I could easily drink more than one cup. I had a latte, and my husband had a macchiato, and both were great. They have a cute little outdoor atrium seating area, but we preferred indoors where all the comfy pillow seating was. Just a note - they don't offer decaf - but for regular coffee drinkers, it's a must-visit. Such a gem in Old San Juan!

If you're on Calle San Francisco and the Coach store is to your right, keep walking till you see a yellow chemex sign on your left - that is the entrance to the coffee shop. Once you enter, it's a very tight space at the register and the alley is in the back with a few tables. The only menu I was able to peruse was that on their iPad which was annoying because I felt like I was holding up the line. I ended up ordering a small iced latte. I initially ordered it to enjoy in their alley, so I was told I can pay when I leave. I was there mid September and as much as I wanted to enjoy sipping my latte in the alley, it was super hot and stuffy. They could use some fans. Plus, it was taking forever to have the latte brought to me. As such, I went to the front to let the staff know I'll take it to go only to find him giggling with some friends. I guess that's why it took forever for me to get my drink. The latte itself wasn't bad, but considering the cost and the useless wait time, I would've gladly passed on this coffee shop.

We were welcomed inside where we ordered with an iPad. There were several options for drinks and pastries. The service was incredible; the barista helped us choose drinks and recommended us her favorite pastries. We were then escorted to the beautiful patio in the back, which is completely hidden from view on the street. The drinks were delivered to us in glass cups, and the pastries delivered covered by glass dome lids. The drinks and pastries were all 10/10. I am usually not a an iced coffee drinker, but I savored every sip of my drink. The mango pie and pecan tart were also delicious. Overall, I highly recommend Filtrado as a relaxing stop in Viejo San Juan. The service, drink, and ambiance were spectacular and I can confidently say that this is near the top of my cafe list!

I started with a hot latte. It was delicious. Creamy milk and nice coffee flavor. For breakfast, I chose the traditional French toast which came with fruit and a huge dollop of whipped cream and maple syrup on the side. I scooted the whipped cream to the side but enjoyed the cinnamon flavored egg bread with fresh fruit. We asked our server about interesting places to visit while we walked around San Juan. She was fabulous. Really went over and above to give us walking ideas, get our food to us, and make our visit feel so welcoming. We loved this place.

We couldn't choose amongst all the empty tables, because staff were rude and dismissive. AC wasn't working, so we felt the humidity and heat. Ceiling fans weren't cutting it. We got the $25 wagyu burger and $20 Mallorca chicken sandwich, both of which were dry, bland, and underwhelming at best. The burger patty lacked flavor and there was no sauce or any accompaniments besides a very sad, wilted, thin slice of tomato and lettuce leaf. Pretty bad burger! The chicken sandwich was so heavily fried, we almost broke our teeth against the chicken. Insanely salty--we couldn't take more than a few bites. Felt so parched for the rest of the day. Fries were the best part of the meal--so salty and thin.

So, we are walking around old San Juan and I'm like homie I need the first drink we can find! Enter La taberna lúpulo. First, dude servicing the bar was extra cool. Just friendly and engaged and didn't act like we just business, but friendly. I wasn't even planning on drinking beer. But my homie was like what do you recommend and he poured a sample of some blonde ale and... wheat ale con parcha!! I was like o snap let me have a glass of that. Fire!! I wouldn't call it sweet, but it has that hint. More importantly it was fresh and not funky. I personally find tap beer is usually not fresh tasting and tend to prefer bottles or cans when I drink beer. But that was not a problem here. Tasted brand new and delicious. The location is unbeatable, in the heart of old San Juan. The decor was fun and eclectic. I'm a fan of the elephant personally due to my old school ties with elephant size productions. Oh and it was super inexpensive. It was like $4-$5 a beer iirc. Which is crazy for a trendy neighborhood like this (La factoría around the corner). Great job to the staff at Lúpulo. Highly recommended.
