I stopped by The French Press for brunch during a recent visit to Lafayette. I had previously been…read moreto their downtown location, which I believe has since closed, so this visit was to the location off Ambassador Caffery. The interior of this location was very nice and welcoming. There was a good mix of seating options that seemed accommodating for both larger groups and smaller parties. The music selection was also enjoyable and added positively to the overall atmosphere. I ordered the shrimp and andouille omelette. I will say the presentation was very stark and uninteresting. Just based on how it looked, I would not have expected much from the dish. While I cannot quite pinpoint how it could be improved visually, it simply came across as boring on the plate. That said, the omelette itself was better than expected once I started eating. The bites that included both shrimp and andouille sausage were the strongest and most flavorful parts of the dish. Overall, if I were judging strictly on appearance, my expectations would have been low. Taste wise, I would give the meal about a 6 out of 10. I did notice several other dishes coming out to nearby tables that looked more appealing, so while this order did not fully impress me, I would not rule out returning. Next time, I would likely try something different from the menu.

The owner recommended this place. They had one suite available for our Sunday to Sunday stay and we took it. This suite has a second bedroom that we didn't need, but our bedroom is spacious, has a window mounted AC and the bathroom has a shower, not a tub. The bed is comfortable. There is no TV in this room, but we didn't miss it. Donnell is a gracious host as is her staff. Breakfasts are delicious and filling. There is adequate free parking. There are no door locks but there are surface bolts and the house is locked at night. There is no foot traffic or street parking and the site is quiet and secure. This is a charming place that we hope we can return to.

That being said a lot of things are made up quite beautifully for weddings. Most good wedding decorators can make a Waffle House look pretty if given enough time and money to do such a thing. So I give a lot of credit to them and not so much the building at The Madison. I've seen thousands of weddings and this place doesn't wow you like some places. There is just too much wood going on here for my tastes. Hardwood floors and wood paneling! The prices are very reasonable here though so that is an important factor when shopping around for a reception hall.

The place is constructed of exclusively wood, exposed brick & old sheet metal. It had an immediate charm about it for sure and overall would be a great place for an event. We parked in the large lot on the same plot as the building. My first reaction to the place was how cool and aesthetically pleasing it is - especially for the little neighborhood it's in:/ They've got a relatively large, healthy lawn in the back with the the little bulb lights that everybody likes. There was also a stage out back but it wasn't being used when I was there. From the parking lot you take a few steps up to the floor level of the wrap around porch. As you actually enter the building you enter into the smaller of the two main chambers. There will be a bar to your immediate right and the larger, stage room to our left. Naturally there was a band playing in the larger, banquet style room. As mentioned it had a stage on the far end and also a bar with plenty of open space for seating/dancing/tom-foolery. On a quick side note, the bar had a quite expansive and modestly priced assortment of your typical offerings. I will say the bartender I had knew nothing about the local beer much less helpful wine and spirit suggestions - he was friendly though :) Another quick side note, the caterer, The Habana Club, was EXCELLENT and offered extremely delicious and authentic Cuban fare. DEFINTELY check them up if you're in the area and into that sort of thing. TL;DR Definitely worth using for a private party or trying to get into the next local event they're hosting. Until next time.. CHEERS !!!
