A reason for long wait times... Where are the employees
    Ken T.

If zero stars was an option, that would be this review. Arrived at 11am to transfer a license from NC to TN. Six hours later, hungry, irritated and disgusted we finally were served. We were not an isolated case. The majority of people sitting around us waited as long or longer. The location is severely understaffed as there are 16 counters but only six were operational with two of six being for test takers. A sad representation for the TN govt.

On a Tuesday afternoon around 2:30p...total wait time and test 12 mins! Last year was about the same time. Awesome! The employee who did mine was super friendly and genuinely nice as well.

Ah, emissions testing. Aside from paying astronomical property taxes, this is likely next on the…read morelist of tasks most Davidson County residents dread. That said, I did find the station location list on the Vehicle Inspection Program (VIP) website to be quite helpful. Not only did I discover the Hermitage station is open on Saturdays, they also have a live camera feed with an estimated wait time listed beside it. Since certificates are valid for 90 days, I decided it would be a good idea to go long before my tag expired (so if lines sucked, I could bail and go back another time). I also know going in the middle of the month is usually ideal, and thought a beautiful Saturday afternoon may be the ticket to super speedy testing. I thought right! I checked the Hermitage (aka "Station 04-Stoners Bend") camera feed and wait time before heading out. I saw one car waiting with an estimated wait time of 8 minutes. "Sweet. Let's roll." It's been a very long time since I've called the East side of Nashville home, so I GPS'd my way there. Of course the automated woman stated I had arrived at my destination long before I actually had and the signage is close to terrible. Tip: Keep going all the way down Stoners Bend Drive. The testing station IS the "cul-de-sac" of this road! It's located to the left of a gated party rental warehouse. The drive wraps around underneath some beautiful trees where shade is a-plenty. As I approached the station, I found three bays open, one of which was empty and an employee flagged me into the bay. NO WAITING! YAAAASS! I gave the attendant my renewal paperwork and paid him the testing fee of $9.00 in cash. (I prefer giving them exact change, but they will accept up to $20 bill.) He asked me to step out of my vehicle, then asked me to stand in a particular area. I thought I knew what he said and where I was supposed to go (not my first time doing this), but I didn't hear or realize I was supposed to step into the waiting area with the plexiglass windows and door -- as us hockey fans might think it to be...the "penalty box" (cuz that what it look like!). Anyway, since my hearing is not great, he had to ask me three times before I finally understood what he was gesturing and apparently telling me to do that I couldn't understand. (He wasn't rude, and I'm used to just standing inside the yellow lines painted on the floor...not a security box.) Overall, I think I was there a total of 10 minutes. Pretty painless. Oh and my vehicle passed. Hooray!

A renewal isn't free since only the state portion is waived, but that'll make your car tag only about $61 with the 2% credit card fee. When I asked why, the clerk didn't know but I had no complaints.... Any discount is GREAT! I learned that you can only renew tags for others ONLY if the tag has expired within 90 days. Any older expirations will need the registered owner to come in person and renew their own tags. So I was unable to give a gift of tag renewal which would have been a "novel" and unorthodox Christmas present. Another fun fact I learned was that TN Residents can go to any Driver License station in ANY COUNTY! I suppose getting rid of emissions testing was the best thing for efficiency They close at 4:30pm so I recommend coming in by 4pm in case there's a line. Since there were only about 2 other customers already being served, the security officer took me straight to a customer service representative at an available window. Everyone there was very pleasant and I was in and out so quickly.

Speaking to that woman Laura made me wish I was instead dealing with the Department of Motor Vehicles. She couldn't have been more disrespectful if she was headlining a Roast. Not only was her attitude a perpetual black cloud hovering over the reception, but her total lack of understanding of the activities that take place at a typical wedding left her to cluelessly complain about the audacity of the patrons to drink, dance, and celebrate while at (of all places) a wedding. I know, I know... how outrageous of us. So if you do decide to choose this as a venue for an upcoming event, know that going in. It would probably be in your best interests to request that Laura be given the night off. It speaks to the level of this woman's mismanagement that her mere presence on the site is enough to overshadow the beauty of the venue itself. Laura, please let me know if you feel I am at all incorrect, I'd be happy to expand on any point in question. Best wishes.

When we…read morearrived, we walked around knocking at all the locked doors with no answer. 20 minutes later, the caretaker opens up the door and tells us she heard the alarm go on but didn't open the door- even though we were booked months ahead and she should have been expecting us that day. She gave us free reign of the place for the two hours. Although it is beautiful, there were venue tables all over the bottom level, holiday decorations scattered all over the furniture, and it was filthy. Of course, we needed to move furniture and items around to make room for great shots. We have shot at many mansions before and usually in the contract it states either we can move stuff around but return it to it's rightful place or an employee follows us around and does all the item moving. There was nothing in the contract and when we were finally finished, the caretaker came up and freaked out that we had moved stuff. She said she didn't know that we were going to do that. One of the items we had to move was a Christmas tree which broke in half and accidentally knocked over a vase on the toilet. When we apologized and said that it broke because we had to move the holiday decorations (not because we just picked it up and decided to break it), the caretaker says, so 'it's my fault' and just slammed the door. If you are holding a venue here or any other event, I suggest that you look elsewhere as the whole experience and price is not worth it.

We went to Nashville to see a 25th anniversary performance of the music from the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou" presented by the Grand Ole Opry. While I am not particularly into country and bluegrass, my sister is, so I have seen several country and bluegrass shows, and I am always up for travelling to a new place. We flew to Nashville on Friday February 27, arriving around 11pm, so it was strictly a travel day. We had a brief layover at the San Francisco airport, which was fortunately enough time to have a late lunch/early dinner, as that was our only opportunity to eat a full meal. We stayed at Hyatt House, which was located downtown and close to many attractions. On Saturday February 28, we went to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and had an early dinner at Sedona Taphouse. We then had a quick look around the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center and one drink at The Library, a bar within the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center, before the show. Sunday March 1, our second and last full day in Nashville, we had breakfast at Kitchen Notes, located in the Omni Hotel, and then walked around the Music City Walk of Fame Park before our tour at Hatch Show Print. I grabbed a quick snack from the nearby Assembly Food Hall, and then we continued walking around the downtown area, passing by the Ryman Auditorium, which was home to the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974 (we only took a look around the outside, as we didn't have time or energy for a tour). We walked along Broadway, a street known for its neon signs and honky tonk bars, and then across the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge. We had a nice dinner at Sixty Vines, then walked down Music Row, although there wasn't much to see in the evening. We went back to the Assembly Food Hall and had a drink at Dolly Wines, a bar serving Dolly Parton wines, before heading back to Broadway to check out the neon lights at night. We went into Lainey Wilson's Bell Bottoms Up, but being 10pm on a Sunday, they were closing up, so we purchased our drinks and took them downstairs to Bayou Keys, where we caught the last half hour of the duelling pianos performance. Monday March 2, we had a 4pm flight, so we had time to check out the East Nashville area. We had lunch at Joyland and walked around the neighbourhood, looking at the murals in the area. I was also able to complete an important task -- mail a package to my friend in Maryland. On our way back to Vancouver, we had a three hour layover at the Denver airport, which was enough time to relax and grab dinner at Elway's Taproom & Grill. I loved my trip to Nashville and would not hesitate to go again, but it's not a city in which I would want to live. It was fun as a tourist, but I don't drive, and it's not a pretty city (at least not the parts that we saw). [Yelp collections: Nashville, TN 2026; Cities]

Nashville is the subject of my current and near future reviews and pictures. My "Yelping in Nashville" series supports a fun city with fantastic restaurants to eat in, captivating architecture, a picturesque riverfront, convenience to stadiums, a happening and vibrant Broadway-Honkey Tonk Highway, gorgeous state Capitol building and parklands, with the heartbeat of country music, blues, and rock running through the arteries of the city. Each of my Nashville reviews, that includes several four star ratings, are in themselves the components building up to my City of Nashville four star rating. With the exception of Nashville International Airport and Gray Line Tour, these reviews were from business and places primarily within Eighth Avenue (US 31 and 41) to the west, the northern limit of Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park to the north, the Cumberland River to the east, and Korean Veteran's Boulevard to the south. I consider this area to be the heart of Downtown with the Capitol District. As far as safety, generally speaking I thought that most of Downtown Nashville and the Capitol District were safe during the day despite some transient people and isolated spots. The most annoying thing were the people panhandling along Rep. John Lewis Way (Fifth Avenue) and Second Avenue. Related to safety, the summer weather was a concern. It would get brutally hot and humid, and sometimes downpour. During a rainstorm, I witnessed the Broadway hill fronting the Bridgestone Arena become a waterfall. This made it risky walking on the sidewalk. The sidewalks were another concern because there were several spots where they are crumbling and uneven. On Thanksgiving, I am writing that I am very grateful for all the time that I've been spending with my Dad and Brother, and grateful to be seeing different cities with them. My "Yelping in Nashville" series supports my cumulative four star Nashville rating. I am a fan of Music City USA.
