Phoenix disguises piracy with a veneer of professionalism. Located near downtown and suitable only for high-income people with little sense and less vehicle knowledge. I took my vehicle in for a bad sensor. Fixed-price diagnostic - which is applied to each item you ask to be investigated - is $169. I had a rear door that wouldn't open. After the diagnostic charge they quoted another $400+ to replace the latch mechanism. I smelled a rat. The fix turned out to be a $5 part and an hour of my time. They replaced the sensor but at a high cost. Find a smaller, less elaborate shop in a lower income part of the city and you'll get honest service for less money. read more

I had a CEL and the dealership was booked up for weeks, so I started searching for local mechanics. Phoenix was the first one that came up because of their great reviews. I saw that they took walk-ins and so I called in to confirm and spoke with Joe, who told me to come on in. Well, they were able to quickly diagnose the problem (rodents chewing engine wiring) and were soooo incredibly nice through the process. Johnny and Plummer showed me pictures of what the wiring looked like and how the repair would happen. They have an online status which gives you a bunch of real time details, reasonable labor rates ($40/hr less than the dealership), clean waiting room, easy drop-off/pick-up process and everyone was just amazing. Felt like we were taken advantage of while we were traveling. I flew to Nashville to meet my daughter (who also traveled about 350 miles to Nashville) it was her car that needed the service for the trunk not latching. I would never recommend this business. We were specific with what we needed / wanted repaired. They completed their assessment which included other recommended repairs of which we were not looking for. We only wanted the trunk latch repaired as it had suddenly frozen up and would not latch. We ended up being charged $199.73 for the initial evaluation and then charged almost $425.06 additional dollars (total paid was $624.78) for the repair/new parts and labor for a trunk latch, Incredibly disappointing. The repair shop was off Calhoun Ave in Nashville. Unfortunately since My integrity is in now question, i have included a photo of what I paid for the trunk latch repair. I just felt like others should be aware of our unfortunate experience in hopes they can avoid a similar one. I feel I need to write one here because I just can't say enough good things about Joe and the team at Phoenix. Our daughter moved to Nashville from California only three weeks before our car just up and died one day. The dashboard alerts all lit up like a Christmas tree, and after pulling over, it wouldn't even start. Well, the dealership would not even take a look for two weeks... and since nobody in our family knows a single soul in the whole state of Tennessee, we couldn't ask around for recommendations. So I ended up here on Yelp and I took a chance on Phoenix. I'm glad I did! Joe answered my call and gave me a fair estimate of the costs to take a look at the car. He even lined up a rental car for our daughter. When they didn't solve the mystery as quickly as they expected, he called and outlined the additional costs for more sleuthing (costs which were *totally* reasonable, by the way). He communicated well throughout, and I never, ever felt that I was hit with any surprise costs. He also explained things very well, without patronizing -- as a woman, I really appreciated that. I took the car first to Lexus of Nashville for the issue. After a quick diagnostic test, I got the call that change my life. It would cost me $4762.14 to fix the issue. For those of your like me, I know a little about cars, but not a whole lot about pricing. I even asked, "Why replace something that's not broken?" The technician at the Lexus dealer stated, " because I might bring it back in two months when the pump goes out." Now here's where you need to stop using Google to look for the best of anything. While my (what used to be) mechanic quoted me $1650!!! to get my a/c to work, Phoenix Auto blew me away and saved me dearly by just fixing a leak in my ac somewhere. He also recharged it and filled the Freon back up so now I have at least one vent able to push through enough cold to be lifesaving. I mean yeah, if you really have to drive without ac the then you do. But summer is still just on the verge of the real heat and if you happen to be driving while it's 95° out with a dew point of 70° and it begins pouring down rain...you have to roll up those windows...at which point the temperature in your car can easily get up to 120°! If you're sensitive to heat already, that's just a heatstroke waiting to happen. I realize it's worst case scenario, but if that happens, and you pass out while driving, it could be a life or death situation. And the best part? He only charged me $200! I never thought my last mechanic would do something like that with me; he actually fixed a couple of things for free! But I guess he'd had enough of my fixed income status...and gave me a $1650 estimate to actually replace all three sections of the ac instead of being nice enough to just fix the leak instead of replacing everything! Wow - what a great group of helpful, friendly people they have at Phoenix Auto! An appropriate name, I think, because when my car broke down on a road trip to Nashville, they revived it when I wasn't sure that was possible. And they did the work very quickly (within a day!) which was an enormous relief. As another reviewer mentioned, they do charge a diagnostic fee up front but I think this is fair because they do a very thorough evaluation and need to be paid for their time and expertise. You then have the opportunity to review and approve or decline each of the services/repairs they recommend. While they might be a bit more expensive than our regular auto shop back at home, they really went above and beyond to assist and reassure me in a difficult, stressful situation. I really appreciate all that they did to get me back home quickly and safely! read more

So, this may be premature but I don't think it will change.... I already want to leave a review for Phoenix Auto and they have not even diagnosed or worked on my vehicle yet. In January of this year, I got duped into leasing a Range Rover from Mt Juliet Chrysler Jeep Dodge...the sales guy immediately saw dollar signs when I told him that a Range Rover was my dream car and it just so happened that they had recently received a black Range Rover from a trade in and it was the only one... he told me I was approved for the car and knew that I'd bite as I went alone to the dealership so in hindsight I was an easy sale... However, they neglected to tell me that it only takes Premium Gas, 1 oil change costs as much as a years worth of oil changes in a regular car, and they definitely didn't mention that these vehicles are known to break down easily... Anyways, fast forward to 7 months later which was a week ago, the head gasket blew. I reached out to over 10 different mechanics and auto shops in Nashville and these guys were the only ones who A. Responded back to me with interest in fixing my car, when every other place either didn't respond or told me they couldn't/wouldn't touch the vehicle. B. When I sent a slightly lengthy email describing my fears, they provided an upfront and detailed answer in reply. C. Explained the process to me, arranged to have my vehicle towed from Mt Juliet to Nashville within 48 hours of making contact. D. Have been easily accessible when it comes to reaching out to them with questions and never dismissing a question or concern I may have. Per my research, this issue, on this particular vehicle, is not going to be cheap at all and of course everyone has their story and struggles I'm sure but even though it will be a struggle to afford the repair, I feel like my car is in good hands of an honest place.
