The tasting experience was still complimentary thanks to the blessed heart of Mr. Gary Eberle (thank you kind Sir), who also happened to grill up some delicious meats and smoked sausage that day (Santa Maria style), which was the perfect pairing to his wines. Special mention to Stephanie, who did an phenomenal job guiding us through the last cave tour of the day...and Mr. Eberle, she truly did your story justice (and then some!). WOW! The tasting is done standing at the bar but it is a very generous tasting where you can try up to 8 wines for $25, and the tasting fee is waived if you buy a bottle that costs at least $25. Thankfully, their wines were excellent and I ended up buying several to take home with me. The most expensive one was about $48, so the tasting fees were easily waived. They also have a wine club and it is an excellent deal, and they ship all over the country!

It was pretty hot, so about halfway through the tasting, we sat down at a table in the shade and walked up for the rest of our tastings but by that time, a large group had come through so the server was busier but still managed to remember where we were in the tasting. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and gave great suggestions. When we were done with our tastings, we walked around the property to look at the sculptures and the grounds. This time, the patty was small, dry, and looked more like a frozen patty than the fresh, juicy, artisan-style burger we remembered. My brother-in-law and I ordered the Campanelle with chicken. The pasta was hot, but the chicken was cold, and the two identical orders were noticeably different in portion size. Because we were celebrating a birthday and didn't want to spoil the weekend, we chose not to make a big issue of it at the time. We did mention our concerns to one of the servers and asked whether the burger had changed. We were told no changes had been made and were simply advised to try the tri-tip next time, which didn't really address our concerns. Sadly, I don't think we'll be returning.
